Doesn't work with all outlet types
by A. Hamilton (3 out of 5 stars)

We sadly were not able to use this. Your outlet has to have screws on the center/sides in order to conduct the electricity. Ours doesn't have this. :( My parents have these and love them though. So if you have the right type of outlet then go for it.

Great concept but Buyer beware on this product
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

I purchased these items to place in various locations in our home so when my elderly 90-year-old father-in-law comes to visit, things are lit up so he can go to the restroom in the middle the night. One of these items has already died off and they were just purchased/installed in January. I plan to contact the manufacturer to see what their warranty is on this product. We also returned three other ones because they did not fit well with our outlets. Even after going to the manufacturer website and attempting to install them using their Video, we still had difficulties. Great concept but Buyer beware on this product

Slick, clean design, easy install, great service!
by Fateh Khalsa (5 out of 5 stars)
June 17, 2016

These are pretty great! Obviously, the key selling point is the ease of install, and it is indeed pretty clever. A monkey with a screwdriver could do it in about 30 seconds (excepting the outlet centering issue, which I'll get to). But the design goes beyond the clever means of connecting to power. Overall, it is very slick, clean, and looks exactly like any other faceplate on your wall (which it should!). The light sensor IS visible, but much less so than I expected. Once you're standing a few feet away, you don't even notice it. A friend of mine put a few of these in as well, and I didn't even notice until I was standing close enough to the panel to set it off.

The light quality is also great! I generally like things dark at night, and have never particularly needed nightlights. I installed this in the kitchen, and was happy to find that it was just bright enough to make it easy to grab a glass of water, but also didn't make it appear as if the room was permanently lit up - the quality of the light keeps it from reflecting around and illuminating the whole room, and rather just adds enough visibility to the area to allow you to see things. Aesthetically the appearance of the three LEDs glowing downwards is very appealing, too.

During installation, I did find that my outlets weren't installed in the center of the electrical box, so I had to unscrew them and move them slightly so that there would be enough room on both sides for the plugs. Not particularly difficult, but it did take an extra 5 minutes or so (and convince me that I really SHOULD turn off power to the box first :)).

The only other downside that I would note is that the sensor DOES appear to be a little too sensitive. This won't be much of an issue in a brightly lit room with decent sunlight, or if you tend to keep your lights on during the day, but in my relatively dark, indirectly sun-lit kitchen (under the cabinets as well), I found that the lights would typically stay on at half brightness during the day. Check out the pictures to see what I mean.

PROS:
- Easy to install, slick design concept
- Clean, simple appearance. Not distinguishable from a normal faceplate at first glance, and only noticeable when looked at closely
- Light sensor is less visible than expected
- Light quality is clean, modern, and aesthetically pleasing (it IS more of a cool, white light, versus a warm, nightlight glow - I like this, but to each their own)
- Customer service is fantastic! (I have two of their newer product - the SnapPower USB Charger - Outlet Coverplate with Built in USB Charger, Duplex, White
, and when one broke they were VERY helpful in taking care of it - I had a replacement in my mailbox in 3 days!)

CONS:
- Depending upon your outlet, you might have to move the outlets a little within the box so that the prongs can fit
- Sensor is potentially a little too sensitive - can stay on during the day in a dimly lit room
- Light sensor could still be less noticeable (perhaps on the top or side of the faceplate), but it's not something you'll regularly notice
- Light quality is cooler and towards the white-blue side of the spectrum (as with all LEDs) - could be warmer for some people's preference, but I personally like it (looks more modern)

CONCLUSION:

Want a slick, elegant, easy to install set of nightlights for your kitchen, hallway, bedroom etc, but don't want to take up an outlet with a bulky nightlight? As long as you don't mind the slightly cooler color temperature of the light, and are either planning to install them in a well lit space, or keep your lights on during the day, get yourself a set of these! You won't be disappointed. Also, check out their awesome USB Charger Coverplate which is pretty cool as well.

DISCLAIMER: Their customer service accidentally sent me this as a replacement, and allowed me to keep it, but asked if I would write an Amazon review. I hope you'll agree I've done my best to be impartial and unbiased!

Great idea! Needs a little more polishing!
by Godfrey Santillana (3 out of 5 stars)

I bought a 10 pack. Out of the 10, one was a dud. SnapPower sent me a new one with a return label for the bad one, problem solved. I really do like the lights, but a few things to note. They are pretty expensive for what they are. The ambient light sensor is positioned too deep inside the cover, causing problems like the lights staying on all the time during the day, even with plenty of light in the room. I think the sensor should be moved closer to the surface of the plate and moved to the top of the plate away from the LEDs. The contacts are a little flimsy but I'm assuming that's by design so they flex over the screw terminals. The screws were not fully tightened on the sides of all my outlets, so I did have to pull the outlet, screw in the terminals, reinstall, then install cover plate. Still, its not rocket science.

I'm on the fence about 3-4 stars. but I think the price of the cover alone takes it down, throw in the light sensors themselves not doing what they are supposed to do, I feel three stars is where it should be.

Edit: I've had these for a year and they are still going strong. I installed 5 at my in laws and they couldn't be more happy. I like the covers but they are pricey. No changes noted from the second batch I ordered. Same sensor sensitivity issue. Turning them upside down does not work aesthetically, nor does it help with the proximity to the LEDs themselves!

They forgot to tell you it never turns off.
by Jefe (3 out of 5 stars)

It is exactly what the tell you it is in the adds and it works great.

However, it takes almost direct sunlight to turn them off. In our hall with no windows they never shut off at all. The light sensor is set ridiculously high.

Light the way

5 stars for a great idea but 4 stars for the price! When they drop to $10 I'll be buying more! These are great for when you have little kids who like to play with nightlights. I would probably buy even if I didn't have kids because I tend to get up a lot at night. Perfect to light up the area so you aren't running into furniture or the walls! And it frees up the outlet! I really love it but $17 is too much!

Good idea. Poor quality and customer service

Light sensor will only shut off light when you shine a bright light directly at it. CustomerService says you can return with a restocking fee but would not exchange.

so I have a very good understanding of the electric system in my house
by Matthew J. Onigman (1 out of 5 stars)
January 1, 2018

This is designed with sprung contacts that are supposed to connect with the electric tabs on the side of the receptacle. However, the contacts push far past standard outlet tabs when installed properly. I built my own house including the wiring, so I have a very good understanding of the electric system in my house. After trying this product on my standard 20amp receptacles, I then took it to Home depot to test it on the various receptacles that they sell. The contact tabs on the cover are too long for all receptacles, so that when installed properly, the contacts on the cover push far past the contacts on the receptacles, rendering the nightlight useless.

I even tried bending and modifying the tabs to make them fit, but they were too rigid and broke before bending. I bought two of these. Neither the one with bent and broken tabs or the unmodified one works, so they are just expensive receptacle covers with non functioning nightlights.

Also, when I pulled the cover out in order to make electric contact - the lights turned on, but were very dim, even for a night light. They provided enough light to see them, but not enough to illuminate the floor for a safe midnight bathroom run, for example.

Great concept, poor engineering.

BEWARE of FAKES
by RSF (5 out of 5 stars)
May 30, 2017

The REAL version of this works, and works great. It is put together really well, and has a great finish that matches the white outlets. I would imagine the problems people are having is due to lots of fake/repros of the original.
**BEWARE of FAKE versions of this cover plate. If your outlet does not come in a SnapPower plastic clamshell with SnapPower logo and UL listings on back of plate, you have a FAKE. The fake comes in a plastic bag with a tiny wood screw and a single printed piece of paper with no directions, just descriptions of the plate itself. Also, the FAKE has the light sensor on the right, SnapPower is on the left. The FAKES do not sit flush with the wall, have flimsy wings with no copper conductors and are noticeably off white. See pics below. The FAKE ones came from storefront: CompNet

Works as described but some drawbacks ruin a great thing.
by Scott Yelof (3 out of 5 stars)

Going to jump straight into the pros and cons as that's all that matters.

PROS:
1. Bright. Lights up the floor around it. Looks very cool.
2. Subtle. So much nicer than having a nightlight. Plus it frees up both plugs.
3. Simple as Pie. Just remove current cover screw in new one. Done.

CONS:
1. Price. No reason for it to be so much. It's a unique product so they jacked the price up. Once competition comes along hopefully the price will drop. But right now they are not very affordable in large quantities.
2. Size. They are small. Much smaller than the modern outlet covers you get at box stores. Kinda ruins the aesthetics when they don't match the rest of your outlets.
3. THEY DO NOT TURN OFF.

While none of these cons are deal breakers they are enough for me to hold off on buying anymore. At least until the idea becomes more mainstream and well known companies make these that match the rest of the outlet and light covers. Until then they are just a neat thing to have.

After a year of owning these I'm still holding on to that 3 star rating. The main factor being that the lights never turn off. They are on all the time. The light sensor is not sensitive enough. I'm assuming the sensor they used was cheap as I can have my house lights on and the Snap lights don't turn off. I have to literally shine a flashlight directly on the sensor to get them to shut off.
