You've been them or you've seen them: cyclists waddling like penguins around the Starbucks in hard plastic shoes with bulbous cleats sticking out after a ride. Looks ridiculous. Probably doesn't feel that great either.... [Read more]

Great concept but gets an asterisk for poor quality control
by E. Nash (3 out of 5 stars)

Second item I've had to review this week with positive feelings but a major asterisk about quality. Fly Pedals are a great concept, far superior to the plastic clip-in adapters that nearly require a sledgehammer to remove. The platform ids stable, stays clipped on when you want it on, kicks off easily with a twist when you want it off. Note to those using SPD-SL cleats: I recommend using the yellow or blue (some float) cleats as I used red and have noticed that without a little float I sometimes kick the adapter loose more easily than I wanted. This is my own fault- I use yellow for my bike shoes but thought I'd be better off with no float for the adapters.

Now the asterisk... on each adapter one of the holes drilled into the aluminum platform wasn't threaded properly and you can't quite get the cleat mounting screw to seat. If you remove the retainer (the rectangular "washer" that drops into the cleat recess) then you can get a partial grip on the cleat with the screw, and since the platforms are less demanding of cleat stability than my racing/touring shoes I'm not returning them, but for an expensive "boutique" sort of product this is very disappointing quality.

One of a kind, and invaluable if you want to use your road bike for short rides

I have long lamented that no one made platform adapters for my pedals (Time Xpresso) so I was elated to find these. Luckily, it was just about time to replace my cleats when I bought these so I installed my old cleats onto these pedal adapters and saved some money there. Used them twice already and the platform is large and grippy. Rode over to the coffee shop a mile and a half away and didn't need to clunk around on cycling shoes. Sure, the pedals point down since they are heavy, but it's inevitable. Take a moment to get a good footing and you're fine for until you need to stop again. I highly recommend these. It increases your bike's usability tremendously.

A good solution to normal shoes on clipless pedals
by Kevin (5 out of 5 stars)

I've ridden (short-distances) in normal shoes on my clipless pedals. It's not hard, but it's also not the most convenient. This is a convenient solution and easy to use.

I switched out my cleats on my shoes, so I had a spare pair to use with these pedals. Then I hopped on the bike and rode to get a beer. It can't get much easier than that.

To answer the concern about the platforms being heavy and hanging upside down, I don't think it's worse than toe-cages on platform pedals. With practice, you can easily put your toe on the backside of the platform and flip it up underneath your foot. Then once you put your foot on top, the teeth grip your shoe well and holds steady. After a few stops, flipping the platform quickly came back to me like it was before I switched to clipless.

if you most frequently ride with your cycling shoes - but occasionally want to toss some platforms o

Loving these pedals so far. I have Crank Brothers Egg Beaters and these have been a simple solution to the "Dang, I don't wanna wear my riding shoes today" problem!

Only complaint (not Fly Pedals fault) is that they extra weight of the pedal naturally causes the pedal to flip upside down when your foot is not on it. It does take some extra concentration when remounting your bike to get your foot in position. If you are stopping & starting frequently, you might want to consider an alternative set-up.

However, if you most frequently ride with your cycling shoes - but occasionally want to toss some platforms on to wear your street shoes - these are a great solution.

You might also be able to figure out a way to rig up something that could clip into the egg beater opposite of the pedals that would be heavier than the pedal, causing the platform to stay upright. This would naturally add weight and an extra step to this process - but if you were creative there might be a solution out there!

I used to wonder why no one made a product like this, now I know why no one does.

I used to wonder why no one made a product like this, now I know why. The Idea is neat. I love look delta pedals and have them on all my road bikes. I though this would be a nice option for short rides and running to the store. On vacation I could leave the pedal wrench, and second pedals home as an options to short rides to the beach. But they are not a good option.
1) the Pedals are way to heavy and flipped over. All pedals do this, but the weight is so high that they flip fast and are hard to use. Very clumsy.
2) The platform is too grippy. With sneakers, the pedal constantly un-clipped.

One 10 mile ride, they kept un-clipping every time I tried to stand. I kept pressure on them so they would not flip over and the show would not slide on the pedal. The Pedals are Dura- Ace, and the cleats are pretty worn but still it did not feel safe in traffic.

I took them off and rode home on the look platform.

buy a good pedal wrench and some cheap platform pedals instead.

Dual sided SPD's are a lot better option for SPD users.

Off to Ebay wiht them

Overall these are great. I took off one star for use with Crank Brothers. I tried the additional bracket that is "required" and i could not get them off for anything then the mount shifted. so i had to flip the pedal and spread the back of the Candy1 pedal PITA!!!! Once i got them off and went straight Candy1 to Fly Pedal it was great

Flypedals.com please chime in for us Crank Brothers owners. I also offer my testing services ;) free of charge

Best product of their type
by Mr. Ralph (5 out of 5 stars)

These are a bit more expensive than other pedal adapters, but if you want your pedals to last they are worth the money. I used mine for SPD pedals. They are easy to install and stay on well. It's nice to be able to ride with whatever shoes I happen to have on for less serious rides. My only complaint is that their weight causes the pedals to end up down. You can't fight gravity though.

these are awesome, I think the best use for them is for Rollers or Spinners. I pop these on instead of changing pedals, or changing into the clipless shoes. Great Invention!!! I'll post a picture.

These are a great solution. We bought these for my son's bike

These are a great solution. We bought these for my son's bike. He is learning to ride the clipless pedals, but only uses those on longer rides. These are a nice option for when he is just hanging with friends so we don't have to constantly change pedals. The only downfall is that they always fall to bottom when you take your foot off so you have to flip the pedal back around. That would p

good but semi difficult to get you for on the pedal right
by J Gambrell (3 out of 5 stars)

Ok. I like these and really like the idea. They are well made and easy to install but they need to be rear weighted. When your foot it's not on the pedal they flip upside down. If they were vertical it would be easier to get your foot back on the pedal. I'd give them 3.5 as it stands now.
