Love the light, needs just a few improvements
by Tech buyer ND (4 out of 5 stars)

I had been looking for a wakeup light since I live in North Dakota and it's so dark in the morning during the winter I hate getting out of bed. They all seemed to be so expensive for their limited use. Then I came across this light and I must admit I feel in love with it.

I would give five stars but I feel they need to make just a few adjustments to the app to improve the usefulness.

My setup is two lights in my bedside lamps.

Pros:

Super Easy to setup. Download the app (make sure your Bluetooth is on), turn on the light and give it a name. That's it!

Fills the room with the most pleasant ambiance. The presets are really good. Promotes a feeling of relaxation.

You can control the brightness and color right from your iPhone or iPad.

Wakeup function is great. No more getting up in total darkness!

Cons: (maybe wish list is a better way to describe)

The wakeup light function needs to be turned back on every single day. Please add the ability to select the days you wish to have them come on. Too easy to forget at night to set.

Better selection of wakeup sounds. You have two options, a song from your device or birds.

No timer for turning OFF the lights. It would be nice to leave them on and have them turn off after a set amount of time or better yet slowly fade darker. The opposite of the wake function.

Overall a very well made and very well packaged product. Looks and feels very high end. I would expect to see this on the shelves of an Apple Store.

I want every lightbulb in my house to be Avea Bulbs.
by Chase M. (5 out of 5 stars)

Great product. Emits a wide spectrum of colors that are easily customizable with the phone app (hue, brightness, etc). It's great to use multiple bulbs in conjunction to add a cool ambience to a room, since it will add a flicker effect between bulbs to keep the colors from feeling static and inorganic. "Cozy Flames" flickers red and orange on occasion to simulate a crackling fireplace, and "Caribbean Sea" slowly flickers different hues of blue to simulate sunlight beaming through the waves above, to name a few.

Sometimes the app/bulbs will glitch out and only one will respond to app commands, but turning it on and off will easily fix the issue. They also occasionally roll out firmware updates... for colorful mood light bulbs. What's next, firmware patches for my shower head? We're truly living in the future.

In all seriousness, though, make sure you're either using an exposed bulb, or a floor lamp with a white fabric. I have one installed in a small exposed floor lamp and 2 in a tall oriental-styled floor lamp purchased from Pier 21 (which is unfortunately made of a mild off-yellow fabric, as the included pictures will dictate). Any yellows and oranges look great but it obviously messes with any greens, blues, etc. More of a personal blunder than any flaw of the actual product, but it wasn't something I had thought of, so I hope you'll learn from my mistake. D:

Overall, great product that I use every day. I just wish I could afford more so I could host a crazy rave.

Just kidding.

That would probably break them immediately.

Great substitute for the network based remote lights
by R Coley Taylor (4 out of 5 stars)

Great substitute for the network based remote lights. Solid build and easy to use interface. I bought this light solely for the purpose of the alarm clock feature. You can set the lights to fade on at a certain time and wake up to a well lit room. The color changing scenes are pretty neat but you can only have the lights paired to one device at a time, so switching between phones or tablets is a small hassle. My favorite part is that they are bluetooth, I travel often for work and throw one of these in my bag, I can replace the bulb of a lamp and have my light based alarm clock with me wherever I go with no additional setup. This is not a great multi user and multi room option but if you are looking for simple mood lighting with phone control this is a great choice.

Lots of fun from a light. Who would have thought?

Like many folks this is my first time using a light bulb that has multiple colors and can be controlled from my phone.

My husband is a stone carver so he rarely gets excited about technology but right away his words were: this is very cool.

Setup was super simple! Figuring out how to use it was easy. I started out by plugging it into a lamp in the living room but there was not quite enough light for us. We ended up putting it in the hallway as an entry light, it is easy to set the right mode depending on who our guests are.

This would be a super cool Holiday gift and would fit easy in a stocking.

Wishes
-- I would love to be able to have more control of the timing and set it up and let it run it's course based on time of day.
-- If you were having a party being able to set this up with you itunes list based on genre would be cool.
-- Having multiple bulbs around your house and having them all on the same timer.

Avea, Dynamic Mood Light is Awesome
by Thomas E Whitworth (5 out of 5 stars)
August 26, 2015

We love the Avea. Our setup is just one at our bedside. The app is very user friendly and easy to understand. Both my wife and I easily added the lamp to our app so either of us can control the light. There's about 8 different colors from Northern Glow (my favorite) to Calm Provenance or just a standard wake up light, plus an additional 7 solid colors. On any color you can adjust both the brightness and vividness on a sliding scale. We do love the fact that you can set a wake up light to come on in the morning and can change the sound setting from anything in your itunes library or just use the builtin Morning Birds sound (that's what we use). We will be ordering another for our boys room, but see our request below.

Future Enhancement Request:

We'd like to see the ability to set a timer for the lamp to turn off automatically as we'd love to get one for our 3 year olds room.

All around I gave it 5 stars for it's ease of use, fast set up, and different options.

Popular in a college dorm
by D. Dale (5 out of 5 stars)
September 25, 2015

I bought this for my son for his dorm room to provide something other than the harsh white lighting it would normally have and he has said that he really likes it and that other people come into his room and ask to borrow his phone so they can play with it! He hasn't used the alarm function too much, but I think that would be useful.

Most the fun for half the price.

This bulb is the perfect mood lighting. I'm going to add a second one to see how they work together. One also isn't quite bright enough to use as the only lightning in the room. I love the wake up light and chirping birds alarm. I totally thought they were real birds the first morning. I just wish it also had a sunset setting that faded to off at night. Other than that, unless you really want your light bulb to be attached to Siri, this is the best Bluetooth bulb out there!

Love It with Just a BlueTooth Connection
by The Colonel-Retired (5 out of 5 stars)
May 29, 2017

I really enjoy the different lighting scenes and the ability to wake up to birds singing or music. The only part I was disappointed was it works via BlueTooth and not through your wi-fi. Which means that you are not able to control the lighting through the Apple HomeKit app or remotely. As far a the product, LOVE IT!

Awesome bulbs. App could use some work
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)
August 6, 2016

I'm a huge fan of these bulbs. I own four of them and the flare made by the same company and I love them. The different ambient mood settings are awesome and I enjoy the preset ones. I hope there's an update in the future that adds more but the ones provided are more than enough. The regular white light is bright enough to light a room. The app is easy enough to use but there are some lagging problems every once in a while. Sometimes you have to press the power button a few times if it can't register the bulb but for the price compared to other smart bulbs it's a no Brainer.

- nice, sunny room and birds chirping
by Ned (5 out of 5 stars)
May 14, 2016

I usually sleep with the windows open when the weather is right and rely on the birds and sunlight to wake me up on the weekends. The evening I got the Avea, I set it for Wake Up Light with the default Birds sound. Woke up the following morning and thought I'd overslept for work. Looked at the clock and it was 5:15 a.m. - nice, sunny room and birds chirping. It's that good. Going to get a couple more to put in the guest bedrooms.
