but when I explained the Soundhawk was just like any other Bluetooth headset "the kids" wear today
by R Simpson (5 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this for my dad who has right ear hearing loss from his time in Korea during the war (tinnitus) as well as age related loss in his other ear. He never wanted to wear anything obvious, but when I explained the Soundhawk was just like any other Bluetooth headset "the kids" wear today, he took to it quickly. The app can be a bit of a challenge for some older folks not used to how iPhone apps behave, but once he got the hang of it, he started wearing it to his Farm Bureau meetings, out at the restaurant with mom, and other public settings. Even in what I call the Korea ear, where he experienced almost 90% loss, he can now hear me around the corner and halfway down the hall when wearing the device. This is an amazing contribution to audiology, and promises to make the transition to assisted hearing easier for those who remember tin horns and large, uncomfortable amplifiers from the '70s and '80s more psychologically manageable (which, I believe, is much more the problem than the technology).

Exceeds Expectations
by jsbig (5 out of 5 stars)

This device is great in both form and function. I have high frequency hearing loss. As compared to the $2000 BTE hearing aides I used to use, the Soundhawk is recharable, is better looking and more comfortable to wear, does not require constant repositioning in my ear, has easy and very useful adjustment capabilities via the app, and has better sound quality. I tried putting the wireless mike near my TV soundbar and it really makes the dialouge easy to hear. I can place and receive cell phone calls using the Soundhawk. Bluetooth music streaming is not available yet, but I expect it is coming. The charging case is attractive and well designed. One litte nit would be to edit the Quick Guide so that the instructions for how to turn on the Soundhawk appear prior to the instructions on dowloading the app. The instructions might also point out that the Soundhawk will need to be charged before use, and that there is a two second delay between turning the device on or off, and receiving audio confirmation that the device is on or off.

Soundhawk helps me in various situations
by kam (5 out of 5 stars)

Let me start by telling you about my situation. I have very bad hearing loss in my right ear and moderate hearing loss in the other. I have a hearing aid for my right ear, but I don't like to use it. It's not for all situations; sometimes it is actually too loud and annoys me. Additionally, if I want to change the setting, I have to make a trip to my audiologist, which is a hassle most of the time for these situational annoyances. Another thing I don't like about my hearing aid is that I have to replace the batteries every 7-10 days if I'm really using it. My hearing aid set my wallet back $2700.

When I purchased my Soundhawk, it was with the hope that it would help my hearing in my right ear, but it did not. I called customer support in hopes I could turn it up (they were extremely helpful), but instead they suggested I use it in my left [good] ear. I tried it, and wow!

First of all, I could adjust it. That made the world of difference. I use it at home and at work sometimes (I help others find their way in the airport), so I do change the volume and adjust my setting in the app for different situations. But when I'm at home and talking to my wife, I can just clip the wireless mic to her and hear her, even if she is in the next room. I use the wireless mic when I watch TV by placing it in front of the speaker, which allows me to turn down the volume to a very acceptable level. The charging case has a battery that charges the scoop and wireless mic when not in use, but it also works well as a carrying case. I like the rounded edges, and it feels sturdy enough to protect the scoop and wireless mic in my pocket. The charging case has its own battery, but when it needs a charge, I plug it in with a standard USB cable and AC adapter that is included. No need to purchase batteries!

All in all, I have to say I was surprised by this product. It did not help me with hearing in my bad ear, BUT it helped my life in ways I hadn't imagined. It is a very neat idea. The tuning through the iPhone app, the wireless mic, and the rechargeable batteries have really helped fill a hole that my [expensive!] hearing aid could not.

This could replaced the expensive pair of Siemens.

I bought this for my dad. He was having hearing problem and he was using very expensive pair of Siemens hearing aid which didn't work well on high frequency. After 2 days of usage, following are his feedback:

Pro: Excellent when mic is placed near the source of sound. When it's placed in front of me on table, or when I'm holding the mic, he could hear me very clearly. Much better than his previous pair of Siemens. He could hear the dialog from TV clearly when it's placed in front of TV. When he's outdoor, he clipped the mic on his shirt or place it inside his shirt front pocket, it works well. He could hear what I'm saying instead of keep asking me to repeat previously. He also appreciates that this uses rechargeable battery rather than the small button battery which requires frequent replacement.

Con: The mic is sensitive and requires frequent adjustment between indoor and outdoor. When the mic is clipped on his shirt, it rubs on his shirt frequently and resulted unpleasant noise. So he had to lower the boost. But when he goes outdoor, he needs to increase the boost to hear clearly. He is concerned about leaving the mic on table as he's afraid of loosing it or have it left behind. He claimed that it's very noisy when using this in noisy environment. But when he lowers the boost, he can't hear well. I think the noise cancellation feature was not that good.

I think he's is happy with this hearing aid and I hope he will find it useful and hear better.

Quality. Works well. But some design shortcomings.
by Chanel (4 out of 5 stars)

Obviously a well made, quality product. I husband has otosceloris and the product really seems to help. Some design criticisms: 1) a flatter case would have been more comfortable (and less embarrassing!) to carry in a pocket; 2) the case does not survive being dropped - the lid pops open too easily, and the earpiece and remote mic fall out easily; 3) the earpiece is uncomfortable and too small for my husband's ears -- the choice of sizes is not adequate for everyone.

Very disappointing
by John H. (1 out of 5 stars)

This item was very disappointing. We followed the instructions perfectly but could not get the item to work properly. It put out an extremely loud piercing feedback screeching while trying to adjust. Hollow & echoing sound quality. Originally charged battery as stated in instructions but it still died in less than an hour of use and before we even got it adjusted and to work properly. Very disappointing.

Made and Works Well
by toyagent (4 out of 5 stars)

I have minimum hearing loss, mostly in the high tones. I've only used the Soundhawk hearing amplifier for a week. It appears to be made and work well, as described on the Amazon website. I'll continue to use it in a variety of environments to determine if it suits my needs. As of this writing I'm satisfied with my purchase, and would recommend it to individuals who have minor to moderate hearing loss.

Good intermediate device
by W. Boucek (4 out of 5 stars)

A good intermediary device. My usage is intermittent, so I'm not getting a full sense of it, but for price & quality, it's a great option if your hearing is only slightly impaired, and you're not ready to invest thousands on a hearing aid quite yet.

I then moved the Soundhawk to my better left ear
by Ronald Smith (4 out of 5 stars)
February 2, 2015

I have owned the Sound Hawk for 7 weeks. I have minor hearing loss in the left ear and would not need hearing assistance if the right ear were at the same level. The right ear is 25% less proficient. I have problems at restaurants and other places with noisy backgrounds cupping my ear with my hand to hear table-mates. Now to the review: To begin with, I am not a fan of the silicone loop attempting to hold the ear piece in the ear canal. I at first placed it in my diminished right ear. I use the largest silicone loop supplied with the Soundhawk and have moved it to the white canal fitting. As a result of the loop moving, the Soundhawk has been dropped into a sink with running water, dropped onto a dark floor with me asking people not to move until it was located and maybe lost once in the car. I then moved the Soundhawk to my better left ear. The experience has improved. The ability to adjust the volume, full/bright and boost functions works well. The bright direction emphasizes speech but raises the tinniness of sound quality. My wife will tell you it has been very helpful and I find myself relying on it more and more. Now to the points I really like: The remote microphone is a great addition. Lay it beside the TV speaker, on a table or attached to a person you want to hear, it is very helpful. In addition, I would suggest maybe laying it on a small piece of cloth or foam so that the hard table surface does less projection of reflected table noise. The hands free phone capability is also very useful. To summarize, the rating is 4 out of 5 due to the loop but the functionality is a five. The Soundhawk is a great interim step to a full blown hearing aid system which I hope Soundhawk is working on. If people ask, I have no problems telling them it enhances my hearing.

This device is well designed and does me well. ...

This device is well designed and does me well. I have a little different and difficult hearing issue. I also have an expensive pair of digital hearing aids. The Soundhawk beats them hands down. I will be able to comment more as I get into really usinf it.
