Product Description

The Fujifilm X30 Digital Camera is an update to the X20, adding a high-resolution electronic viewfinder, a larger 3" 920k-dot tilting rear LCD screen, a second control ring to adjust aperture and shutter speed settings, and a Classic Chrome film simulation mode. It features a 12 megapixel 2/3" X-Trans CMOS II sensor and an EXR Processor II to provide high quality imagery at up to 12 fps, and a sensitivity range to ISO 12800. This sensor uses a randomized pixel array, removing the need for an optical low-pass filter, thereby allowing the camera to produce sharp and clear imagery. The main improvement in this camera over the X20 is the a 0.65x-magnification 2.36m-dot OLED Real Time EVF, with adaptive brightness and orientation settings, and only a 0.005 second lag time. For menu navigation and image review, a 3" 920k-dot LCD screen is located on the rear of the camera. The screen tilts to aid in low-angle shooting. The Intelligent Hybrid AF system uses both contrast- and phase-detection methods to acquire focus as fast as 0.06 sec. The built-in lens is a 28-112mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.0-2.8 lens that integrates three aspheric and two extra-low dispersion glass elements to help reduce aberrations and improve image sharpness and quality.

Top-of-the-line "point and shoot" with entry level DSLR features...
by Craig J. Carvalho (4 out of 5 stars)

It's a bit early to write a full review at this point as there are so many features I have yet to try. But... I can tell you this is a well built camera, (reminds me of my old Pentax K1000). Nothing cheesey about it. Solid, compact, and built like a tank. Some have complained about being able to move the pop-up flash when in the stowed position, (nit-picking IMO). All the knobs, buttons, and switches are high quality and give you that "positive click" when used. The lens is very nice. The screen is crisp and clear, (I really like the multi-position feature). The black rubber hand grip on the front and sides has the appearance of pebbled leather, but gives you a far superior grip. The one issue I have is that when looking through the digital viewfinder everything is a bit blurry. There may be settings that can adjust this, but I need to experiment further. BUYER BEWARE... this camera is sold by DavisMAX as a "grey market" item... no factory warranty or owner's manual, (a Fuji leaflet directs you to their website and online manual). Hence the great price, (I paid $440 USD). There is a serial

number and other corresponding sku's on the box, so no issues with it being a knock-off, (Fuji also covers this issue on their website). I didn't hear of any technical issues with this camera during my research, so I'm willing to give Fuji and their well established reputation the benefit of the doubt. I will update this review ASAP.

Update: Easily solved the "blurriness" of my digital viewfinder. Just to the left of the viewfinder there is a diopter adjustment dial with micro-click positions which bring the picture into sharp focus. Here are just a couple of photos taken recently at a birthday party on SR Auto-mode, (no tweaking whatsoever). I like the color representation and clarity even in low-light situations. Very few if any reviews I have seen here or on YouTube have positive things to say about video quality. I also had the chance to take some video clips and was quite pleased with the results. Let's face it, you're not going to film a documentary with this camera. But if you 're looking to capture some special "family" moments this camera will not disappoint.

Buying a grey market X30. One buyer's experience.
by richard wisniewski (5 out of 5 stars)

My five stars are not based on a review of the camera. I am only sharing my buying experience. I fully expect that I will give the camera a full five stars after I have used it a bit longer. The X30 replaces the X20 that I regret having sold. It was one of the most enjoyable cameras I have ever owned. I fully expect the same level of satisfaction I experienced with this upgraded model that has the same IQ features plus several desirable improvements. I purchased the grey market version of the camera in order to save almost two hundred dollars. I have read many articles about the pros and cons of buying a grey market camera, and the cons dominate the advice given. I was wary of making any such purchase. In this instance, I decided to gamble on an "international" copy of the camera for three reasons. (1).The X30 was selling for a long time @$499 and then it escalated to $599. The grey market prices, however, remained in the lower $400's and @ $411 on Amazon, the price was tempting. (2). The lack of a US warranty did not concern me. I have likely been lucky, but none of the many cameras or lens I have purchased over many years ever required warranty service, or service of any kind for that matter. Again, I likely have been lucky. And (30, the order was going to be be fulfilled by Amazon, meaning I would not be dealing with the actual importer/wholesaler of the camera . I was confident that if I got a bad copy, I could return it easily. The camera arrived in two days and as advertised, and I am very satisfied. It is brand new. It came in Fuji packaging with all the usual extras. The only thing missing is the US warranty, as expected. Would I buy another grey market camera or lens? Only if it was available under the Amazon fulfillment provision or a source like B and H were involved. I offer my experience for someone who might be trying to decide if the price break is worth the gamble. My positive experience, granted a sample of one, may be of help. There is a postscript. A week after I ordered the camera, the price dropped to $499. At that price, the saving probably would not have been sufficient for me to enter the grey market. But I am surely glad I ordered the camera for a much better price when its price was still high.

Sharp autofocus, easy to use and stylish

In love with this camera! It's an upgrade for me from my 2008 Canon G10. Its ease of use, sharp autofocus and style that reminds me of my high school Pentax K1000 are my favorite attributes. I'll leave the technical specs to folks who know about those. Documenting my daughter's childhood isn't something I trust to a cameraphone.

Beautiful, solid camera that has a great feel. Just enough perks to justify the price, but nothing too overwhelming. Shots come out in great color tone and in high quality.

Easy to use and easy to get great pictures. I like that I can either just point and shoot or play around with all the settings- either way the pictures come out great.
