A real keyboard that folds into a tiny package
by Orson Scott Card (5 out of 5 stars)

This is a full-stroke keyboard that really is pocket sized. I will put it in my carry-on bag, however, when traveling, because it's a little heavy for pockets. But this keyboard is perfect for those times when I need to enter a long email into my smartphone and the miserable built-in virtual keyboard just won't do. I've tried a lot of tiny keyboards, in the effort to get the tactile feedback I used to get from my Blackberry; but this is a real, full-size, full-stroke keyboard that's actually better than you get on most laptops these days.

great product

although this keyboard is rather expensive .I think the form factor of being able to fold up into a rugged case to carry with me is a definite plus.

Mechanical keys feel so much better than membrane . And I like the wow factor that people get when it unfolds.

went through two of these, but customer support was excellent

The first one I ordered wouldn't lie flat and one of the keys would not click. Customer service response time was GREAT and they just sent a new one. Unfortunately, this second one has another key which won't click (a different key).

I've used the "older version" of this decades ago with my Palm and loved it. Extreme nostalgia and given how much I type with my iPhone on the road and during business travel, a wireless keyboard is a must have for me and I've gone through quite a few. To date, the Apple wireless and even the Amazon Basics have been the most reliable, though they do not fold!

I'm returning my Amigo again and may check back once the quality issues are resolved. I really wanted to love this keyboard and think everything else about it is perfect - price, form factor, size, customer support, etc. So sad. =(

Wonderful little keyboard

Wonderful little keyboard. It locks together to be an exact replica of my Lenovo Laptop keyboard in look and feel.

Avoid buying a keyboard where some keys don't work very well.
by Justine Akehurst (1 out of 5 stars)

I was pretty excited to receive this keyboard, as it folds up pretty small, and I can pack it around on my commute. But, on connecting it up to my phone and typing out a few sentences, the 'm' and the space bar barely work. I have to really mash down on those keys in order to get an 'm' out or a space out. It's pretty bad. The instructions are all in broken english and the box it came in says 'keydoard' on it.

Low Quality. Pretty unhappy with this purchase. I suggest you avoid it and go get another bluetooth keyboard made by a more reputable manufacturer.

If you're looking for small this is great, if you're looking for actual keys that register look else
by Wesley (2 out of 5 stars)

This keyboard is not very good, if you're only looking for small and you're not bothered by lots of dropped keypresses then this will be fine.

Pros:

Folds down small and locks in place while folded out.

Case feels sturdy.

Cons:

If you are off center on a key you can press it all the way down and it will not register. Particularly if you're touch typing you can accidentally press down on the corner of a key and nothing will happen even if you bottom out that corner of the key. Its not even a manufacturing defect on my version either, every key on the keyboard is like that most particularly the spacebar.

Keys themselves feel cheaper than other folding bluetooth keyboards I've used.

In conclusion this is fine if all you're looking for is something small, if you're looking for something accurate that registers most of your keypresses look elsewhere.

Pretty good keyboard, awful instructions, not well engineered

Pretty good keyboard, reminds me of a wonderful keyboard I had for my Palm Pilot many years ago. However, it's not very well engineered (as another reviewer pointed out), and the instructions are just awful! I still can't figure out how to get the iPhone holder to work. I'm keeping it, but I have a feeling that I could do better for $139.

except that the middle hinge wasn't locked into place like the outer hinges
by Mike Marquis (2 out of 5 stars)

Saw this on ZDNET and ordered it, even though it was REALLY pricey for a Bluetooth keyboard. I'm not as impressed as the other reviewers because it seems overly engineered with sliding this, sliding that, folding parts with little metal parts to keep it from being over folded, odd little nubs that didn't seem to have a purpose, etc. As an engineer its complexity offended me.

The keyboard feel was OK, except that the middle hinge wasn't locked into place like the outer hinges. This gave it a an unstable feel

The supplementary device holders where a mixed bag: the tablet holder was simple and elegant, however the cell phone holder was unnecessarily complex. The instructions that came with it were mostly devoted to pairing, which is very straightforward, but didn't describe the mechanism very well, but I eventually figured out how to open it. Why it wasn't just a smaller version of the tablet holder is beyond me.

It's the Stowaway reincarnated! Excellent mobile keyboard.

A decade or more ago I used an awesome keyboard with my Compaq Ipaq called the Stowaway - it was a portable keyboard that had full size keys and was very comfortable to type on, yet could fold up into a very compact hardshell case when not in use. The Stowaways were device specific, with versions for the Palm Pilot and other PDAs that were popular at the time.

A few months ago I found that original Stowaway and was curious if there was a Bluetooth version available. I even contemplated asking some electrically savvy friends to convert my old one to a Bluetooth enabled version.

Then I heard about the Amigo from Lapworks and was sent a sample to review. It's great and every bit as good as the keyboard I loved from my PDA days. It feels almost exactly the same yet has bluetooth built in for compatibility now with any device that will work with a Bluetooth keyboard.

A few things to keep in mind with this version:
1. It's not so great on a lap, so I recommend using it on a flat surface.
2. Unlike the original the mounting bracket for the device is not built in, so you'll need to use one of their included mounts or bring one of your own. It does mean that you'll need to carry another piece around with you in order to use it, although you could use an Apple smart cover or similar case to prop up your tablet or phone.

The bottom line? If you loved the Stowaway you'll love the Amigo.

DISCLOSURE: Lapworks sent me an evaluation unit for the purposes of this review
