we are SO VERY HAPPY with this cat carrier!. our elderly 8 lb cat needed to fly Delta Airlines from Austin TX to Wisconsin. some of the flights used very small aircraft.. and our cat carrier was too large. so we purchased this carrier, in Small Size... so it met the airline requirements. and it's FABULOUS! IT'S VERY WELL-MADE. HIGH QUALITY. AND IN BETWEEN flights we could open the "side porch" for our little guy to stretch, eat, drink, and look around with more room. and in flight we opened his side porch so he had more room. we LOVE LOVE LOVE this carrier! it has a pocket at one end, where we kept our cat's health records. very well designed. Kudos to the maker of this carrier!

I bought three bags in a months, sad!

First one is MG Collection Tri Color Mesh Top Opening Soft Sided Dog / Cat Pet Carrier Shoulder Hand Bag, couple hours later the bag rip, my cat escape from the car. My whole trip with a broken bag.

Second bag OxGord® Pet Carrier Soft Sided Cat / Dog Comfort "FAA Airline Approved" Travel Tote Bag, looks nice but the size is different than the description, too small for my cat. No sure I want to return it because its not under Prime!

Then I finally pay a little bit more for this bag and the size is perfect for the airline I am flying with. My cat reviewed these three bags:-

First one he is very unhappy, make angry noise inside the bag and want to get out so bad. Second bag he went inside quiet but loves to come out after while. Third bag which is Petsfit small size 16x9x9, he sit inside very quiet and stay for a long time even though I zipped the top. I ride him on top on my suitcase and he has fun! See photo. I recommend this to other.

Good design, but not long lasting

Perfect size for our 7lb dog. She's got just enough room to turn around and can just barely stand up in it to stretch her legs.

When we're traveling, we leave the bag open to be used as a bed.

Like all carriers I wish the zippers were more substantial, but they've held up fine over the last 2 months.

EDIT - I initially gave this a 5 star review, with the intention of revisiting after some time. It's now been 8 months of regular use. The plastic rods in the top that give the bag its form have finally through the sides of the bag and are ready to fall out, which would then let the bag collapse.

If this were a random backpack I might try to keep using it, but I don't feel safe traveling with my dog in it, especially with those plastic rods becoming exposed, and the structural integrity of the bag being diminished.

But I did like it initially, and I wish it would have lasted longer.

Purchased the 16"Long,9"Wide,9"High,17.5" carrier which was extremely spacious for my 5 pound Chihuahua. He enjoyed sprawling out on the 'patio' of this carrier during the flight. My only complaint is with regards to the limited storage pockets for my personal items. The pocket is roomy enough for just a cell phone. It would be great to have additional pockets so that I do not have to carry a purse or hand luggage in addition to the carrier.

Used for my maltese mix on a very long flight ...

Used for my maltese mix on a very long flight. We had a 7-hr layover and the extra room was jus what she needed. She was scratching at the mesh panels at the beginning of the flight and I was afraid the seams would break, but it didn't. Comparing it to my Delta carrier, the material does seem a bit lighter, so you may want to consider a sturdier carrier for breeds such as dachshunds, etc.

Clever, convenient, and well made

This is a really clever carrier. I purchased it for my 5lb dog, and she loves it compared to her old one. The foldout allows her plenty of leg room and great visibility during long road trips. When folded up, there is still enough from for her to stand or move around. There are plenty of options for opening the carrier so that your pet is always easily accessible (both short sides, the top, and, when expanded, the long side). It has stood up to a 10 month old dog's chewing, and so far is staying strong for a 3 month old's teething as well.

All in all a great product for the price, definitely worth the money.

I really like this carrier because it expands, I haven't traveled with it yet but will use it to go to the vet and on a 4 hour plane trip next month. I found that when i introduced my puppy to the bag, she was more comfortable when put in the bag butt first(through the front opening not the top). Overall this item is very nice and has a nice build quality. I noticed some people said that there wasn't a pad to go in the expanded side but there is, it is connected to the main bed. I think this is a great product and I leave it out so she gets used to it before our trip. I got the 16x9x9 one and so far it is plenty big even when i don't have "porch" open. Also, the bed isn't that comfortable. There is just a piece of styrofoam type stuff, I would recommend making a more comfortable pad. It is easy to clean because there are zippers to take off the cloth around the pad. The leash inside the bag isn't very useful right now because my pup just chews on it so I slid it underneath the bed. She can't get it out. I recommend putting in a little stuffed toy or pillow for them to rest their head on. I also put it in a chew toy so she has something to chew on that isn't the bag.

Happy Puppy!

Tried different bags (with side views) to just hold our puppy while waiting for more then 5 minutes or so. Our puppy would get restless and start barking. Put our puppy in this expandable bag - our puppy sits in the expandable portion happy as can be! Obviously, he wanted to see all the action without any obstructions - this product meets that need.
