Lasted 1.5 months
by James (2 out of 5 stars)

The Tactica one is a thoughtfully designed piece that fails in the materials used department. As a bartender I was initially worried about the size (small), but found it comfortable in my hand, and easily opened bottles. After opening about 30 bottles I found many small chips in the blade, I don't think it'll last for 20 or so shifts at this rate of wear. If your a casual user that wants a lightweight opener in your back pocket then 5 stars! but for $34 bucks It should last a lifetime... It wont.

Update: After 1.5 months it doesn't open bottles any more, given I am a bartender working part time. Basically I open 100 bottles a week (that's a high estimate) so after roughly 600 bottles it failed! I was perfect in my estimate (20 shifts...well 19.5). Bummer, I liked it, but in the end not worth the price.

Opens bottles easily and won't damage the cap
by E. Jenkins (5 out of 5 stars)

UPDATE:

After a few months of use and around 200 bottles opened, the edge of the opener has chipped away slightly, as noted by other reviewers, but it still opens bottles just as easily as when it was new. Additionally, it does not affect the appearance much.

Upon receiving the Tactica One, the first thing that stood out was packaging that the opener came in. The case is on a matte black background with a raised glossy image of the opener. It is a small touch, but when buying a higher end item, a well thought out package design is nice.

As for the opener itself, I like the dimensions and weight. It is a nice lightweight opener which is deceptive considering how sturdy it actually is. The shape is quite unique and fits very well in your hand (right or left) and the beveled edge at the base of the opener provides a nice spot for the ring finger to establish a sturdy grip, whereas the angle at the top also provides for a solid area for the index finger. The texture of the opener is non slip so you don't have to fumble around with it. So, after handling it, I got right to opening some bottles and I was immediately impressed.

The unique design of the opening area (where the opener rests on the cap) is large enough so that the point of leverage is at a point on the cap to not bend it upon prying, making it great for those who want to save the bottle caps. The actual prying action to pop the top was surprisingly easy, not requiring much force at all, which was pleasant as some openers you really have to muscle and can be uncomfortable for your hand. Or having to force it so much, you spill beer when you open it, and that's a tragic feeling no one should experience. For me, one of the most important aspects of the opener, was that it would not damage the cap for collecting purposes, and the Tactica One far exceeded my expectations. I believe I have only had one or two other openers that don't damage the cap. I thoroughly inspected the cap and was amazed to not see any opener marks whereas other openers typically bend the cap. The lip of the cap was also kept in great condition, where usually it flares out with other openers (see pictures). So that was one of the important points that separates this opener from others in terms of both quality and price. I am incredibly happy with the quality of the opener. So far, my only point of concern is the part of the opener that interacts with the underside of the cap at the ridges and its longevity and resistance to chipping from long-term or high usage; however, that will remain to be seen as I use it more. As noted in a previous review, this was a problem issue; however, I have not had the chance to open a large enough volume of bottles to see this happening, but I will be able to post an update after further use. Although I feel it is important to note that for an average consumer, I do not think this would be an issue since the opener would not experience that high of an opening volume.

Pros:

Lightweight

Ergonomic design

Bottles are easy to open

Does not damage the cap upon opening

Cons:

Longevity of the composite material might be questionable (update to come)
-- The company is releasing a pro model around Septermber 2026 that will be made of stainless steel which should eliminate any longevity concerns and the model is only a couple dollars more which would be something to consider

Overall:

I am very happy with this opener, it does a great job at what it's meant to do. Bottles are easy to open, definitely easier than most other openers. The opener does not damage the cap, which is great for saving caps, especially craft and microbrewery beers. The composite material is very cutting edge and I like the design of the opener which is different than the standard blade style opener. Yes, it is on the pricey side, but if saving caps is an important feature, you definitely get what you pay for with this opener. It is the perfect companion to opening high end beers. For the person who enjoys drinking specialty beers, this is a great opener and would make a great gift, so I would definitely recommend this to friends.

Disclaimer: I received a model for testing in order to review the product; however, that did not bias my opinions of the quality of the opener.

Looks great and is lightweight, but disappointed in the quality for the price. Every time I use it it gets a little dent from the bottle cap.

✏️ Quick thoughts to supplement my video demonstration.
- Sharp opener section really digs under the cap... it doesn't slip off.
- Easy, ergonomic feel.
- Surprisingly lightweight.
- Powder-coat feeling texture doesn't slip

Note: I was given a sample of this product in exchange for a review and demonstration, which of course has no bearing on the honesty of my opinions regarding the product. Hope my demonstration and test helps!
📍 Bottom line: would I recommend this product to one of my friends?
Yes, absolutely.

Interesting Bottle Opener and Conversation Starter
by B. J. Comin (4 out of 5 stars)
February 13, 2016

The Tactica bottle opener is a really unique tool. It's light. REALLY light. The material almost feels like plastic but it's amazingly strong. For my first test I had one of my rock climbing buddies over for dinner and after cracking open a few bottles we took turns squeezing it to see how much punishment it could take before it would crack or break it and it never did. I think if we had really tried we could have succeeded but we both left the table pretty impressed by its strength. It opened bottles as smoothly as any other device that I've used but it was nice to not have to worry about chipping the glass with something metal. What I really can't get past though is the price point. I received this item in exchange for my unbiased review and while I'm really happy that I was given one I would have difficulty shelling out that kind of cash for something like this. It's novel and is certainly a conversation starter but I don't know that it fills any significant gaps in the "bottle opener market". It would definitely make an excellent gift for the man who has everything. For that reason I gave it four stars. It does what it's supposed to do and it's novel but overall it's too expensive.

I've received this product in exchange for an unbiased review of the product.

Light and Sturdy
by Mrs. Carlton (5 out of 5 stars)
February 16, 2016

The opener is lightweight but quite sturdy as described. I'm not worried of it breaking even if I was trying. The size of the pry is great for maintaining the shape of the cap after opening if you collect caps. I do find it short for my hand, but I have very large hands, so that does not hurt the rating of the overall product. I've received this product in exchange for an unbiased review of the product
