Product Description

Natural Energy
Make full use of the clean and unlimited solar power around us. Simply unfold the AUKEY solar charging panel under the sun, connect your devices and watch the battery level start raising.

More Efficient
From the moment it is placed under sunlight, the Sunpower solar panels convert more photons into energy than other similar products, which makes AUKEY 20W Solar Charger only need 3 panels while others may need 4 or 5 panels. Up to 23.5% of solar energy gets transfer into electric current to charge your devices.

Dual-USB Charging
Charging two devices simultaneously with dual USB port, the AUKEY 20W Solar Charger has maximum current output of 2A per USB port or total of 2.4A. Your devices will be back to full battery in no time.

Stand Up
There are two stands at the back of the charger to help the solar panel stays perpendicular to the sunlight, and hence increase charging efficiency.

Rugged Quality
Although not to be used in raining days due to lack of sun, the solar charger is waterproof (not including the USB output ports) and rugged enough to withstand most weather and environment conditions in the wild. They can be easily fold up and carried to your next destination.

Used for over seas deployment
by Matt (4 out of 5 stars)
July 18, 2016

I purchased this portable solar panel along with a 26,000mah battery by Idaye, I'm on a 4 month over seas department and generally there is cell service in some areas but the big issue is sometimes there would be days without any power. So far I'm a month into the deployment and have lived on and off the solar panel between times that I can plug into a wall. Overall it's great construction and the two USB ports can charge my phone and my external battery pretty well, at most times at regular speeds just like if I was back home plugged into a wall. It does fold up nicely and it fits in my backpack along with my gear and it doesn't add much weight. My only major complaint is if it's out soaking up sun if a cloud passes in front of it or if it's on the ground and someone walks past it and their shadow covers it up the voltage doesn't seem to come back up. I found you have to unplug your device and plug it back in and then the solar panel resets itself. I found this out by my phone charging up fast like normal but then two hours later I came back and my phone had not charged hardley at all even though it was full sun exposure (and I mean lots of sun) after unplugging my phone it starts charging fast again. That's when it occurred to me that when people walk past it and the voltage lowers From their shadow it won't come back up until you reset it. Can be really disappointing when you come back 3 hours later expectin your stuff to be full and instead it's dead because right when you walked away a shadow went over it. If the voltage came back up after the full sun came back it would be a solid 5 stars but just the fact that sometimes I lost a whole day of charging really screwed me at times. Other than that when there's full sun it will charge 2 iPhones at normal charge speeds.

AA+++ Customer Service

Initial Review: Did not work well at all. It never was able to charge up a cell phone more than a very small percentage, even when in full sun on the beach...it can't charge up a cell phone on a beach in a beach town...Unfortunately I missed the window to return this item only due to health reasons that delayed me or I would have returned it for a refund. Not worth it, keep your money.

UPDATE: Their customer service is AWESOME! They are sending a replacement and have been extremely prompt in responses. You guys ROCK!

One major flaw
by j5th (2 out of 5 stars)
September 19, 2016

The product itself has one major flaw that makes it useless.. Everyday I put it out in the sun to charge my 15000mah battery however when the sun goes behind a cloud the controller switches off and does not turn back on when the sun returns. Instead you have to unplug the battery pack and then plug it back in to get the controller to start charging again. Everytime I expect my battery to be charged and ready to go after a full days sun I find the battery has not charged AT ALL.
2nd problem: One USB port charges at 1.8amps and the other at 1 amp and sometimes it charges at 1.8amps as well...

Great solar panels for any trip.
by electech77 (5 out of 5 stars)

First impression after opening this is that it feels like it's made of quality materials. Then you notice that the panels have a lot of handy features. It has fold out "legs" to angle it to the sun while sitting on a flat surface. Then it's got biners and Grommets in multiple locations so it can be hung from a backpack or anywhere else to catch the sun. Lastly it has a pouch to carry whatever device is being charged and have it not get fried by the sun that's providing it power.

In action I couldn't be more happy. I tested the 2.1A port and in the late afternoon when you don't expect peak performance it still gave me 1.6A.

I was not provided anything for my review, I ordered this product on sale and I have to say I'm glad I did. If you're looking for a good solar panel, this company has made great one.

Great solar charger at a great price!
by David L. (4 out of 5 stars)

This charger is one of the better ones I have used so far, and delivers about twice the current in the same location as my smaller counterpart. The unit is somewhat large, but not as large as other units on the market of the same current output. This is probably because this charger uses Sunpower panels, which is one of the more efficient panels available to date. Relatively speaking, this charger is about 1.5x the width of my 15" laptop, just the right size to fit right into my frosted glass bathroom window which receives sunlight through it in the morning. Surprisingly, I was able to get about 1.1A of current indoors max even through the frosted glass in the morning sun. This was quite sufficient to recharge my empty 18650 cells and/or spare battery packs lying around. The current is quite sensitive to the intensity of sunlight though, and a slight change of intensity can reflect a significant change in the current output (just like most solar panels). On *mostly sunny* days, the panels generate charges at around 0.4-0.7A at the same location (in the bathroom), and the current drops to about zero on overcast days. On sunny days current reaches over 1A or more. While I have not really used this unit outdoors, I was able to get a charge of about 1.7A on a 2A device when testing the device outside in the early fall afternoon sun on a sunny day. I have not yet to measure the currents going to two devices at a time, but the unit appears to charge two devices at a time just fine (although plugging in another device at the same time will cause the charging device of the first device to drop - as expected.) The device does have two ports marked 1A and 2.1A, but both ports appear capable in delivering the same amounts of charge (plugging into the 1A port can easily supply more than 1A if there is enough power available). I remember this was just to denote the maximum amounts of current that can be generated, and does not depict any limitations of the current output of the port. The unit does come with a charging cable, but the cable soon died and was not able to charge the unit any longer. As with any solar panels, it's best to charge your devices with a good USB cable (the bigger the gauge, the better), so you get less cable resistance and more juice to power your devices. When the unit first arrived, it also came along with a stink that reassembles of molten plastic. The strong smell did eventually dissipate, although it was quite bothersome in the first couple days of use. Overall, this is a great buy for the price, and fits along well with my applications.

Great solar panel works as described well. Works through house glass, but not car glass
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

Received in good time exactly as described.

Haven't used the charger much, but I did finally get to do some testing. Using this with a Galaxy Note 3, generic 1 amp battery pack, and Poweradd Compact Carmate3 400A Peak Current Car Jump Starter and 4000mAh Power Bank in Arizona.

I used the Ampere app to get an approximate idea of the charging output of the Aukey.

For the Note 3 when I charge my phone from a regular source (wall outlet, high output USB), the phone draws 1200 ma. When I plug the phone into the Aukey under full sunlight, the app shows I'm getting a full 1200 ma charge. So that works great for the phone. The generic battery pack only needs a 500 ma input to charge and the Aukey charges it fully in a couple of hours. The Poweradd Compact Carmate3 400A Peak Current Car Jump Starter and 4000mAh Power Bank uses a micro USB to charge and so only requires 500 ma input as well. But it normally takes a long time even plugged into a wall socket and while the Aukey does charge it, I was finding that if direct sunlight is not maintained constantly then the charging fluctuation tends to really slow down the process. Which means that the battery pack I would want to count on for the highest recharge of my electrical components might not actually charge fully before the last sunlight of the day. I would get at least a partial charge. So the Aukey for me in Arizona works great. But it would be a good idea to be realistic about the time it's going to take to give a meaningful charge to more heavy duty battery packs. It should work well with most high drain phones though.

The only reason I took off one star, was not quality or function, but mostly versatility. I happily discovered I could get the full 1200 ma output even through house glass flat against the glass. In many outdoor situations you can carry it on a pack and get full charging (given direct sunlight). But it is also sometimes just as useful to be out and be able to have the solar panel on the dash charging whatever electronics from the inside where those items can be locked up. For whatever reason the windshield glass will block full charging enough that it's just about worthless. That's a very specific environment so I don't want to take away too much from how good the charger is, but at the same time that's a situation that would come up often that the user may want and it won't work. The manufacturer does not advertise that the charger is UV dependent (which is what I'm assuming is the issue) so no fault there. It's disappointing though. That means that the in outdoor situations the charger is limited then to backpack only or you'll have to be in a position to watch it if worried about theft.

Otherwise the design of the device is nice. The attachment points are many and tough. The panels themselves are very sturdy and appear weather resistant. I don't think that means much since the connector outlets and little storage mesh (for battery packs) definitely are not weather resistant. You would not be able to leave this outside a tent in the rain (why would you?) because I'm sure the connector box would just fry with any water.

Also the mesh pocket in the back is a nice bonus great for carrying any battery pack and cables. But in order for the charger to fold and store nicely, if you leave a battery pack in it, the battery pack will have to be small or very thin. Otherwise a thick battery pack will give the folded panels quite a pronounced hump and be difficult to store.

I compared this with the Anker, ultimately choosing the Aukey for price. I purchased this for use while backpacking, and completed my first trip this weekend.

While the panel did an ok job keeping my iPhone 7+ charged up, there were several little issues that could be improved.
1) Weight. Especially for backpacking, every oz counts. The Anker is close to a full pound lighter with identical specs.
2) Charging behavior. I don't carry an external battery pack, so this was plugged straight into the phone. Any time I would go into a shaded area, charging would stop. This was expected, but what was bothersome was that the iPhone would display "Accessory may not be supported", and I would have to unplug and replug for it to begin charging again. I'm not sure how to technically solve the issue, but I'd prefer not to have to babysit the device while on the trail.
3) Durability. After only one excursion, one of the mounting loops has already disconnected. It appeared to just be glued in place.

All things considered, I would go for the Anker next time.

works great!

i bought this to use on vacation. this thing works really good. i honestly had it in shaded places and still charged my phone. i had half the panels covered and still charging. im not sure how powerful it was but it was still charging.

just yesterday i really got to use this. i had to work on my car outside and my phone was only 15% and my Bluetooth speaker was completely dead. i set this up and had my phone inside the pocket charging using 1 port and the other the speaker. soon as i plugged in phone started charging and the Bluetooth speaker turned on. i had it playing music and after about an hour or so i checked my phone and noticed it was almost fully charged. had it streaming music the whole time.

cons: little too big to have it on my standard size backpack comfortably. not enough to take away a star, but just a heads up. ill rather just set it up stationary, but if you dont mind a big panels on your back itll do its job good. id recommend to a friend.

Ehh it's not that great

After many uses it's just okay at what it does. The design is what bothers me as the stupid "fold out kickstand" gets in the way at times when u need to easily access the pocket that houses the ports, also the "kickstand" is flimsy and overall makes it cheap feeling.I left it out on a really hot day and it started showing some "air bubbles" on the panel corners so I wouldn't buy this again or recommend it to anyone.

It had a bad solder connection at one junction
by harold hiser (4 out of 5 stars)
July 28, 2016

The unit I recieved did not function initialy. It had a bad solder connection at one junction. I should have returned it, but opted to repair it instead. So, They lost a star to imperfect quality control.
The power output is very close to twenty watts in Norfolk, Virginia in midwinter.
This is a well made product, (cold solder joint aside), that I would recommend to anyone who needs remote usb power.
As for the twin usb ports, either port on Mine will output up to the three and one half amperes this panel can produce, irrespective of how they are marked.

Great charger, not the lightest but functionally wonderful.
by Normal Sized Man (4 out of 5 stars)
October 27, 2016

I take this camping. It's a bit heavy for backpacking but motorcycle or car camping it is great. I think three panels would be all you need, I have seen chargers with four and that would start to get heavy and bulky and take up too much space on a picnic table.

Charging was consistent with any kind of direct sunlight and seemed fast enough on my iPhone7.

One note is that the ribbons on the back to attach to the velcro tabs to make it stand up started to get frayed by the velcro that is supposed to keep them in place during storage. That is a design or materials flaw to me and will make me have to eventually prop this up. Still, I can deal with that since it doesn't impact the functionality and anyone can find a rock to prop this up on.
