Product Description

The DayOne Waterbag is a 2.5-gallon (10-liter) family-sized water purification unit with integrated filter and backpack straps. The DayOne Waterbag, along with the P&G Purifier of Water packet, provides all four functions needed to treat and safely store drinking water: (1) collection, (2) transportation, (3) treatment, and (4) hygienic storage. It is compactly designed for use in situations such as outdoor recreation, hiking, backpacking, fishing, hunting, emergency situations, and natural disasters where the drinking water supply has been depleted or is of unknown quality. Each DayOne Waterbag comes with 60 P&G Purifier of Water packets and is reusable. The P&G Purifier of Water product is a 4-gram packet that treats 2.5 gallons / 10 liters of water in 30 minutes. The powdered packets are robust in removal of turbidity, cysts (>3 logs), viruses (>4 logs), bacteria (>6 logs), and arsenic from contaminated water sources such as creeks, rivers, lakes, and ponds. DayOne Response, Inc. is committed to providing clean drinking water: for every DayOne Waterbag purchased via retail channels, 600 liters of clean drinking water is donated to P&G’s Children's Safe Drinking Water program for disaster response efforts. The P&G is a trademark of the Procter and Gamble Company.

Large Volume of purified water
by John G. (5 out of 5 stars)
June 30, 2016

Now it's time for another 'Good Idea, Bad Idea.' Good Idea: the purification really works no matter how gross it looks while working, and it completely purifies a large amount of water. Bad Idea: Nearly impossible to clean completely as the brown stuff sticks to the bag like glue, it spills over a lot when closing the top, the spigot hose doesn't attach anywhere so it falls to the ground all the time, and the flow is very slow. Its worth the money no matter what other reviewers say (although if the price of the P&G packs are any indicator, you're really paying for those more than the bag), but probably more for base camp than survival prep. This has been another 'Good Idea, Bad Idea'. Update: After two summers of using the Day One and having seen negative reviews from people who don't even say they have bought the product, I'm increasing my rating. Everything above holds true, but understand that this is not just a purification/filtration unit for drinking water. It makes enough clean water to cook, do dishes, or wash off after a hike. It is not meant to compete or be like the Life Straw, Grayl, or even the Sawyer filters. I still say it is worth the price and a great product. If the review you've read just complains about how other products cost less that they believe do the same thing, without actually talking about this product, then I have no idea if they even bought the product or used it at all. I have. I paid for it. I didn't get it for free, and while I won't say it's the best product to have ever been invented, I think it's a pretty great one that I use each summer. Hopefully, for many more summers.

Suitable and useful for backcountry camping
by Dick Rubin (5 out of 5 stars)

6 of us ran approx 150 liters through this rig during a 6 night stay in Pioneer Basin (10,400', N of Mono Pass in the Eastern Sierra). Once we became accustomed to the simple procedure and timing it requires, we were very pleased. Be aware once you fill the bag and add the purifier powder you have to agitate for 5 min and wait another 25 min before you can use the water, and you must clean the bag (quick scrub and rinse) after each use. We had a 10 liter collapsible plastic cube plus some smaller water containers, so once we got ahead of consumption the delayed gratification was not inconvenient. Not effortless but beats the pants off all our pump-style filters, and also the Sawyer gravity system we tried some years back which was a complete non-starter. FYI we were filtering clear water at the outlet of a sub-alpine lake. This was likely not a challenge for the P&G technology but is representative of the water sources we prefer on backcountry trips. Would be interested to hear the experience of someone who's used this where there's visible algae and/or suspended matter.

Bulkier than I thought but it rolled up into a bag and that's pretty much it a clear plastic bag with straps and a filter on the side. It will do the job and holds a lot of water. Nothing worse than carrying a five gallon jug to camp even if it's just a quarter mile away. This makes it convenient.

GREAT PORTABLE WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM FOR DISASTER KIT, OR MANY RECREATIONAL USES
by Paul Paddock (5 out of 5 stars)
November 4, 2015

Purchased the DayOne Response waterbag to keep in our disaster relief kit. Arrived quickly, and was well packaged. The 10 liter capacity bag comes with a filter and large syringe for backflushing, P&G purification packets, a tool to open the packets, carrying straps, and a strap for hanging a full bag. The excellent instructions are illustrated and easy to follow. Everything is made from appropriate and excellent quality materials and components. We now have everything needed to collect, transport, purify, and store water in the event of an emergency. After carefully checking this item out, I realized how useful it could be in other applications. Am thinking it will make a great gift for hikers and hunters, and could be very useful on a boat. I hope we never have to use it for it's intended purpose, but am comforted by the fact that we have an efficient, high quality water purification system on-hand if it's needed. Highly recommended!

by WVKK (5 out of 5 stars)
December 8, 2016

I've use the Waterbag for fresh water sailing and have another that is in my emergency "Go Bag". For sail boat racing it's great not to have to carry all the drinking water which is a ton of extra weight - we can treat/purify as we go as it only takes 30 minutes and holds 10 liters. For emergencies, rather than having the gallons of fresh water stashed which takes up too much room, one of these stores flat and also fits in the bag if we need to grab and go. The water tastes pretty good. I've also given it as a gift to newlyweds who like to camp.

I used the DayOne Response bag while camping and it worked great. It was extremely simple to use and once we collected the water we had a full 10 liters at the camp. This would work great during a natural disaster and because it can filter really dirty water it is very versatile in the types of situations you can use it. While it was not specifically designed for camping it is an overall great water filter for disasters or outdoor adventures.

Great for at home prep or on the go!
by Erict86 (5 out of 5 stars)
November 13, 2015

Ideally I'll never have to use this product, but it's great knowing it's there. Having lived through both Katrina and Sandy, I've seen people running from their homes, buying bottle after bottle of water, and going into chaos. The Waterbag allows peace of mind, knowing I can rely on this lightweight backpack for clean drinking water at home or on the go instead of lugging around incredibly heavy water bottles and containers.

Perfect for my go bag
by Tensy (5 out of 5 stars)
November 17, 2015

I started building up my prepping efforts a couple of years ago when I saw more and more disasters striking, but I kept struggling to find a water solution suitable for my living situation. The Waterbag seems to be perfect, as it offers enough water for my family and me (10L) 60 times over. It's so easy to use and it's very light so I can pack it right into my go bag to grab as soon as the next emergency hits.
