Calculated Industries 1190 Air Shim
by SJK (5 out of 5 stars)
March 17, 2017

I bought two of these 1190 Air Shims to have on hand. They are super handy when you work alone and need to move or align bulky objects that would often require two people, like appliances, heavy furniture and door hinge pins. These Air Shims have a 300 LB rating and a 2-1/2" maximum lift. They measure approximately 6-3/8" X 6-5/8" are surprisingly durable for being made out of a semi-flexible black vinyl like material. You can either use your hand or foot to pump the rubber inflation bulb and they will deflate quickly with a push button air release. The flexible hose on the inflation bulb is about 4" long and the whole pump setup is about 8" long overall. These are made by Calculated Industries, which is the same company that makes the handy ElectriCalc Pro Calculator I have and use all the time.

I cannot believe this thing worked

I needed to replace a leg on my 65 gallon fish tank stand. With no idea how I would lift this 750+ Pound beast, to replace the leg and level the stand, I found the airshim pro xl browsing online. I took out about half of the water in the tank, making weight of the stand and tank closer to 500 I would guess. The airshim pro xl lifted the stand and tank no problem. After replacing the leg and filling the tank about 80% (625+ lbs est.) , the airshim was still able to lift the stand when I needed to make a few adjustments. Very impressed.

Makes swinging heavy doors a dream. Doesn't mar floor. 1 hand on door 1 hand on hinge with screw gun, foot on pump. Great for pre hung also. The best is flanged windows thow. It makes life so much easier by yourself. Need to level new fridge on tile floor but streesed about cracking tile when turning legs out?. Jack it up with 2 of these. Doing some prying over long run but dont want to run the risk of dropping 2nd bar on floor behind you?. Use this. Seriously These are great. 15yr contractor/Finish Carpenter

Excellent handyman tool for heavy weights in tight spaces
by Henny Penny (4 out of 5 stars)

Best little devices ever. I purchased two of these to help with some of my appliance repairs. Specifically, I had top-bottom washer dryer combo in a tight closet with my HVAC system. The bottom washer was furthermore in a drain pan with a 3 inch lip. I wanted to empty my drain filter under the washer, but had to remove 3 tiny screws underneath to access it. With a few hundred pounds of metal making it difficult to manually lift or move, enter these clever little guys that made this job super easy and saved me a $100 service charge.

I used two of these to give my washer-dryer combo about a 2-inch lift, then used my adjustable pivoting socket wrench to do the rest.

I did notice a slight air leak from one of my two shims, but it wasn't significant enough for me to go through the hassle of a return and these things are still useful.

I think I'm mostly impressed by how light and portable they are for the weight capacity they can handle. I'm definitely recommending these to family and friends.

Simple, reliable, and well built air wedge

Bought this and a small auto lock out kit for myself to have. As someone who works in public safety sector you would or actually you probably wouldn't be surprised at how many people lock there keys in their car. Super common problem that can totally RUIN your day both time and money wise. Bought this for myself to assist friends & family. Solidly built and easy to use...what more can you ask for from a piece of equipment. The push valve release is money versus the old fashioned twist lock valve's.

can help open car doors.
by Kissalude (5 out of 5 stars)

it was not all that fantastic at lifting things like it says, but does well to break into cars. I work at a body shop and have had to use it a few times. Can wedge it into the door, often without tools, and then use the other break in equipment with less chances of scratching the paint.

the only thing I did not like was that the pouch bulges so like the space in the door is like half of what the bulge is on the outside.

Overall having one, or better yet two of these and a hook rod can save a load of money.

I tried it on a door to help me install it. It didn't help nor was I able to inflate it to any degree with a door on it. Sorry I bought it.

It was awesome to pump the cabinets up to perfect level height ...
by Elite Carpentry (5 out of 5 stars)
May 31, 2016

Just used this on a kitchen install. It was awesome to pump the cabinets up to perfect level height and then install shims. No beating shims from under the cabs with a flat bar and messing up the edges of the plywood. Productive! Im looking forward to having these to level the fridge and oven in this kitchen. they seem to be very durable and well made. Worth their cost, would buy again. I would suggest buying 2 like I did, makes life a lot easier.

A product that really works
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

It does as it claims and really helps when setting doors. As a DIY tool, we have found many uses. Love that we can "ease" something into position rather than tapping, bumping, etc.

Love that we can "dial" in a location by using more than one of these around a door frame. Since we are professional installers, this tool helps us to add/subtract positioning; and the position holds true while we add the necessary fasteners to secure the frame.

We also used this to help move an engine during an alternator replacement. The engine needed to "rock forward" just a small amount of space in order to remove a heat shield. The YT guys said to use a jack. We didn't want a jack above our head, so we positioned three of these into the space and kept inflating them until the engine "rocked forward" to clear the heat shield. It was a safe, gentle movement and had plenty of umph to get it done.

Hmmm...wonder if we can use these to get up out of the recliner. LOL

It does what it's supposed to do and does it well
by Matt Szczepkowski (3 out of 5 stars)

Used this in sort of an unconventional way to open a locked container. Batteries had expired on the lock and when that happens (and you're not around to hear them warn you they're dying) the lock is locked shut. Have to break in to access the batteries, so here we are. This little gem did exactly that. I plan on using it for leveling tasks when I have no assistance around such as on fence sections, always a chore. This will make leveling them out and getting them to the right height much simpler.
