Power breather improved my asthma.by artis gil (5 out of 5 stars)

I am a practicing 56-year-old neurologist in Florida and I swam on the swim team in my early teenage years at the Rolling Hills country club in Cincinnati Ohio. I have always loved swimming and it's always help me especially with my asthma. As with all adults as I got older I gain weight and slow down on exercise and my asthma came back with a vengeance. I was taking Advair on a daily basis and albuterol several times per day. I tried various sports including tennis, CrossFit, 90 day PX and martial arts however those took a toll on my knees and on my back. Finally when I hurt my back eight months ago my wife, who is much smarter than me, suggested that I swim laps since I had access to a great pool at the alumni wellness Center from my local university. I like to swimming however I had difficulty swimming because my neck would not turn as well as it used to when I was a teenager. I was only able to do 10 laps in a 25 m pool and I had to stop several times. I was searching for a snorkel in order to help to do the labs and avoid the neck turning when I came across the power breather wave. It seem like a great idea and I'm now swimming 1250 m to 2000 m per day. I never have to turn my head to breathe and I do not stop and the only time that I lift my head is when I finished my workout. I typically swim from 45 minutes to one hour. My asthma is gone and I am no longer on Advair or albuterol and I have dropped 10 pounds. More importantly, I feel much better physically and mentally in my outlook in life has improved. I just want to thank the company and the inventors of this incredible swimming snorkel as they have really improved the quality of my life and I hope it does the same for many other people.
Love it!

After many years of swimming with a front faced snorkel, I learned about the Powerbreather and was really intrigued with it. The Powerbreather allows you to breathe in 100% oxygen and breathe out co2. This is much healthier and makes it for a better experience when swimming laps.
What I found when first using it, is to put your head in the water and take deeps breaths for a couple of minutes before swimming with it. Talking about breathing, there is no need to purge as the water drains out on the bottom, so if you are doing any flips, you should not have an issue with water in your mouth.
The Powerbreather allows you to adjust to fit your head size and a knob on the back to make sure the Powerbreather staying it place.
The only stroke the Powerbreather I found won't work with is the back stroke. So you will need to either take it off or open your mouth for breathing.
Overall, I am very pleased and look forward to using it for many years!
Well-made, but noisy.

Exactly as advertised. Probably very good for those with young, powerful lungs, as a means to build lung capacity. For me, an older lap swimmer, always a little short of air, the drag that it takes to inhale and exhale is bothersome. Perhaps more so, it's noisy. I have pretty much switched back to the regular old snorkel. Once again, it is very well made, is exactly as advertised, but I would want it to require less effort to breathe through, and somehow be quieter.
Later update: Tried it again, as the regular snorkel was causing some CO2 re-breathing problems. Got used to it pretty quickly, and the pressure of inhale and exhale that it requires became a non-problem. I think they are now shipping with an inhale tube that requires less effort; I don't have that as yet. However, I'm still bothered by the quite loud noise that exhale bubbles make. Upgraded to four stars.

very hard to get air through these tubes. I tried for a month doing laps in the pool, hoping my lungs would get stronger but alas they did not and this expensive piece of equipment lies dormant in my cupboard.
NOT FOR FULL SIZE ADULTS

I am 6'3" with a 5 5/8 size hat and this device crushes my head no matter how big I adjust it. I am sure they made it fit the majority size heads but if you are big headed, forget it.
You have to try these LoL

I love swimming, do it daily, but has never been able to do reach HIIT level since heart rate never raised over 120-130, even with hand paddles.
So,I was tempted to try this and was impressed in the first time (today): I was able to bring heart rate to 150's and I'm sure it can go higher, targeting my running heart rate.
The mouthpiece is soft and comfortable like scuba regulator. Turns were flawless because, differently than regular snorkels, the water that comes in during the turn is purged through the bottom automatically when exhaling after the turn. It also allows a lot of vertical bouncing when cruising letting you give that last hand push without getting water in (so no need to swim like a robot like when using regular swimming snorkels). After sometime, you forget you're wearing them.
I swam super fast and my lats are finally burning again. I think I'm going to be able to move to the larger blue paddles that's collecting dust somewhere in my garage.
Swimming is a great workout for body and mind and I found that without having to turn to breathe lets you get more focused and it's really pleasant. That yoga kind of feeling.
Not easy to swim with.

I had high hopes for this, as I wanted a way to breathe easier when swimming laps. I might as well just use a regular snorkel which would be easier! Inhaling feels a little hard, but not impossible. However, exhaling is so hard it's useless! I can't even get all the air out before I need to take another breath! You have to blow hard to push the air out, and then it makes a ton of bubbles right in your face/eyes! Had I known this, I would not have purchased it, because it was pretty pricey.
Exceptional product, and customer service.

1. I bought this for open water snorkeling. It works as described - swim parallel to waves, no water inflitration. Swimming into the waves will cause water to come in if you breathe in when a wave crests over the top of the snorkle. I did a couple of sprints this way using American Crawl, got slightly winded, but I attribute that to enjoying the speed from not having to turn my head and just swimming.
2. Works as described for a dive - breath in, hold breath, dive. Come up, break the surface & breathe. No problem. I did suck in water once; I didn't break the plane before inhaling.
3. Breathing is easy & quiet if you are accustomed to snorkeling - breathe with diaphragm, nice and deep, control your breath. If you breathe in fast, you will not get good air, and if you breathe out fast it will bubble like an aquarium aerator. The design is well thought out for air intake and release.
4. The fit around the head needs a bit more thought. I had a panoramic dive mask that didn't fit with the powerbreather (it was too wide & the buckles got squeezed against my head. I contacted customer service and they explained the fit, and sent pictures on how to wear. The Cressi Perla works well. Their customer service is impressive and they're genuinely interested in ensuring that you are able to use the powerbreather.
5. Value for money is spot on. Considering the way it works, they ease of use and the fact that you can snorkle and open water swim is worth the money
Simply amazing product. Snorkeling experience like no other.

I am not even sure where to begin.
I just came back from my holidays. I was lucky to spend a week snorkeling off the coast of Turkey and another in Rhodes, one of the Greek islands...
I was ready to head off with my old mask and snorkel tube as I had backed the latest Seaview 180 full face mask and there had been a delay in delivery. Thankfuly I came upon an ad for the Powerbreather... I took the plunge and ordered it. I got it exactly two days before leaving for the holidays...
The first time I put it on, it felt weird. Breathing in wasn't very straightforward, I am assuming because of the two tubes. But you get used to it really fast, and that's when the product shines! I have snorkeled more than 4 hours a day during my trip and I could have just kept going if it wasn't for my wife getting bored watching from the shore!
There is absolutely no comparison between my endurance when using a standard mask+snorkel and the powerbreather. I can't wait to use it in a swimming pool to do laps, which I should do later today actually...
If I were to find one slight disadvantage (that didn't bother me much to be honest) is the noise of the bubbles when you breath out and the dolphin like, clicking sounds that come out from the tubes when you turn your head when swimming. The first time that happened I thought a dolphin was sneaking up on me! I was using the long tubes so not sure if that happens with the short ones as well, but it was really weird.
Anyway, the powerbreather completely revolutionized the way I snorkel/swim and I was constantly approached by people who were curious to know what alien device I was using while they were using standard equipment...

Update: I've been using the Powerbreather for a couple of weeks now and I'm used to the way you have to breath now. I have found that I can relax while swimming laps now and I even loose myself while swimming. Yesterday I was able to swim 3 miles. Previously without the Powerbreather I struggled to swim 1/2 mile. I can't say enough good things about the Powerbreather. I now enjoy going to the pool and working out.
Takes a bit of time to get used to. I lap swim and I learned that you have to force yourself to exhale completely before trying to inhale. Make sure to inhale full lungs before exhaling completely again. After 100 or so laps I didn't have to think about it any longer. Just give it a little time and know that it's supposed to be hard to breath.
