Must have for Long Ridesby A Z (5 out of 5 stars)

If you take long rides and don't want to be left walking to get help for a flat tire, you need a repair kit with you. That includes: tube(s), a tire lever, and a source of inflation.
This inflation tool is a small lightweight item - you get the metal inflation valve plus a foam CO2 cartridge cover. The main photo is a little confusing because it's showing what the tool would look like with a CO2 cartridge connected to the value plus the foam cover on the cartridge. I carry this tool plus a tube, 2 x CO2 cartridges (in case I have a mis-fire during inflation), a tire lever, a Bicycle Multi Tool
, my iPhone 6, and a snack inside my AmazonBasics Strap-On Wedge Saddle Bag - Medium
. If I get a flat, I repair and rechart my course for home - since I only have 1 backup, I don't continue my long ride even further away from my home base.
When you inflate a tire with CO2, the cartridge and the inflation valve get very cold so the foam cover is almost essential, gloves or a folded t-shirt would work in a pinch. Another helpful tip when fixing a flat on the trail is to slightly inflate your inner tube by mouth just to get enough shape to insert the tube inside the tire before going on the rim. Assemble the tire + tube, then work it onto the rim and use your tire lever to get the tire fully on, then inflate slowly with this tool. If you don't insert the tube into the empty tire you run the risk of pinching the tube between the rim and tire - if you do that you'll end up with a second flat when you inflate the tire (I've done it before!).
Hope this helps for your long rides.

This is my first CO2 tire inflator. I replaced my compact hand pump with this and I am never going back. The only advantage of a hand pump over this is the hand pump has as much air as you have energy. But, you have to expend that energy as you work that pump for 15 minutes to fill up a mountain bike tire. Besides, this with 3 CO2 cartridges still takes up less space than a hand pump. If I were going on a ride in excess of 50 miles, I would probably take both just to be safe, but the pump will remain unused until I am out of CO2. The head and handle are aluminium and are light and strong. It works great for both presta and schraeder valves. The valve mechanisms also seem solid. I put in the first cartridge to inflate a tire after a flat and several days later, it is still ready to dispense pressurized CO2. I thought these were going to be a one-shot deal and after puncturing the cartridge, the rest of the gas would slowly leak out. Pleasantly, not so.
Mighty powerful tool for such a tiny size

Ordered this CO inflator based on the reviews on Amazon. Once I received it and had the cartridges delivered, I proceeded to inflate my bike's tires that were flat from lack of use. I followed the instructions from the package as well as the very thorough follow up email from the vendor. I've had a previous inflator that was somewhat functional, but this unit was amazingly easy to use and most efficient. I managed to inflate one tire in less than 3 seconds, not realizing how fast the contents of the cartridge came out. I subsequently took care of opening the valve slowly and it worked like a charm. I liked this inflator so much, I am buying another one as a gift. I had gone to a local bike shop and the CO2 inflators were much bulkier and far more expensive. I can carry this inflator in my pants pocket and a cartridge without it bulging or getting in the way. I definitely recommend anyone at any mechanical skill level to get one. Totally satisfied customer
High quality and high performance.

One week ago I was getting ready to go to a cycling training camp (road bikes in my case) and I realized that I needed a CO2 inflator in order to quickly fix a flat on the road as all I had was a floor pump at home in order to pump up tubes. I looked around and decided to take a shot on this product and I just have to say I'm very happy to have bought this. During this camp I actually had 3 flats (pretty rough roads, 400 miles, and some bad luck), but luckily this trusty little inflator is now my best friend, if you don't have one then I sincerely suggest you think about buying one. Here is my pro and con list.
Pros:
- It's extremely small and light, lighter than a hand pump, easy to put in your back pocket or saddle bag on the road.
- Really easy to use on the road, simply twist to valve counter-clockwise 45 degrees and twist the opposite direction to close the tank again.
- It's nice and stylish, most inflators I saw were bulky and ugly and this is just extremely small and professional I love it.
- It's good at inflating, a 16g CO2 canister filled my 25mm tubes quickly and to around 95 psi at home.
Cons:
- The foam insulation is a little thin, your hands will still get cold without a glove, so don't forget that.
- The little lever to begin inflating is a bit tight but I get that is for a good reason, wouldn't want to accidentally open the valve.
Overall:
This is a great little CO2 inflator and I've been happy with it thus far, again the only thing I would like is thicker canister insulation. It's a great product and I was happy using it on the road and I know trust it. The only advice I would give to potential buyers is to, deflate and inflate your tubes with air when you get home, CO2 gets you home but it leaks much faster than air, use it for emergencies, not every day, along with that make sure you read the directions (That are quite informative by the way, albeit a bit minimalistic) and you put something between your hand and the CO2 canister, but that is for any pump. Great pump, really saved me on the road this past week (Also this does not come with a CO2 canister, do not believe that it will come with one. That is stated in the description).

The Chuck Norris of CO2 Inflators

After an 18-year hiatus from cycling I started riding again. While I carried a CO2 system with me in the 80's and 90's (which oddly enough I never used on my personal bike having never flatted all those years) I wanted something with a bit more control. The Pro Bike Inflator fit the bill with its ON/OFF feature. I pack this tool with a pair of CO2 cartridges and a spare tube in my jersey pocket "just in case". I'm impressed with Pro Tool's professionalism for not only making a stellar product, but their customer service as well. Super fast shipping. Even more important was an email with instructions on how to properly use the CO2 Inflator and several safety tips for first time users. With customer service and professionalism like this it speaks multitudes about the quality of the product and the integrity of the vendor.
Excellent Performance I am fanatical about tire pressure

UPDATE (10/05/17)=============================
After owning this product just over a month, I have no complaints, only praise. Because of its compact size and ease of use, Pro Bike Tool's CO2 Inflator remains a valued part of my bike maintenance program.
STICKING VALVE: In my original post I mentioned difficulty getting the valve to open. That issue has NOT repeated; the valve has worked perfectly every time I use the inflator, which is almost every day.
CARTRIDGE LIFE: the other question I had regarding this product was how long a cartridge would last once screwed into the inflator. It does appear to lose CO2 over time, but I would call this loss negligible, losing perhaps 10 PSI over a 7-day period. So it's not a perfect seal, but at just under $1/cartridge, it's manageable and acceptable.
REVISED RATING: Product continues to live up to its previous 4.75 star review, and as the sticking valve issue has resolved, I revise my rating to 4.9 STARS. HIGH RECOMMEND.

SIZE/CONVENIENCE: 5 Stars. Excellent Performance
I am fanatical about tire pressure, generally, and specifically, for my motorcycle which is my sole transport (Ah, SoCal). So, the first commendation for this product is its size. The whole thing, plus a couple (or 3) extra cartridges fits into a sidepouch of my daypack. Spacewise, VERY economical. Are you a purist bicyclist? The whole setup weighs maybe 7oz (Unit + 1 cartridge) and shares the dimensions of, say, a pack of cigarettes. Please don't smoke.
OPERATION: 4 1/2 Stars. Above Acceptable Performance
Easy to operate, and to understand how to operate. Device mounts to tire (Schrader valve) as advertised (both Bike and Moto tires). Cartridge mounts to device as advertised. Delivers C02 gas to tire as advertised, with a * (see below). Here are my results: A single 16g cartridge took my mountain bike tire from 17psi to 41.5 psi, AND my motorcycle tire from 30 to 36psi. Total psi output from 1 cartridge: about 30 psi. There have to be lots of environmental factors than can grossly affect that result. For instance, the bike tire was inflated indoors/78F while the moto tire was outdoors/100+F. Would that affect performance? Someone out there must have that answer.
* The reason the Operation eval only gets 4.5/5 stars is because the valve got stuck in the off position after I swapped in a new cartridge. So tightly closed I was about to go get a pair of pliers to get it to open when it finally gave in to extreme hand pressure. Yet another environ factor mitigating operation? Who knows, but you might want to check back here for updates to see if it is a persisting problem.
ADVICE/TRICK: Make sure the cartridge is screwed in fully. I thought I had done so, but was getting a relative trickle of air coming out the valve. In fact, thought cartridge might be spent. So I gave the cartridge another tightening twist, just in case, and upon re-test the air blasted out as one would expect. Word to the wise, and a suggestion for those interested in tweaking air flow delivery.
OVERALL: Highly Recommend with a combined rating of 4.75 stars.
Look for an update to this review in about 30 days (including, for instance, how long a partially full cartridge lasts while attached to the device when not in use)
Nothing but issues, bad design

I've had a lot of problems with this unit. The inflator attachment which connects to the presta valve is threaded, which could enable you to screw the inflator to your tube before releasing the gas. However, whenever I unscrew that attachment, the valve of the tube unscrews with it and I lose all the gas and render the inflator and tube worthless without pliers ( see picture). I have tried not screwing it on but it always seems to give me problems, whether because it doesn't make a good seal as it inflates or it still attaches enough to unscrew the valve as I try to remove the inflator. I have limped along with this for too long but am going to find something new.
Good idea, but left me stranded multiple times

Fooled me once, then twice (so probably my fault for not tossing it after the first time). This is nice and compact, light, built out of good material, and looks good. On top of that, I like the valve that lets you choose how fast/slow you want to let out. Unfortunately, none of that matters when, after use and removal of the inflator from the presta stem, the valve core also comes off letting all the new air in the tire explode out and making a waste of the CO2 cartridge.
It is a cool idea-- The way this works is you screw the the tool onto the presta valve, and then inflate it, at which point of course a bunch of frost develops around the valve and the tool. Sure, normal. The problem is, after you're done inflating, you unscrew the tool which also takes the presta valve core with it because they are frozen together. If you don't have a valve tool with you to tighten it back on, or if the valve shot into orbit, you are screwed if you are running tubeless, or you r tube is screwed if you were running tubes because in both cases the valve is completely useless now.
Both times I got stranded, I was very careful because I was worried that this very thing would happen. The second time, I was even more careful and didn't unscrew the tool completely because once I unscrewed it a certain amount I could hear the valve core was loose and leaking tons of air. I tried everything... I tried inflating at a different angle to reduce frost, I tried unscrewing the screw quickly/suddenly, or slowly, or in between. I tried spitting on it and rubbing the frost away from the tool and the valve. I tried letting it come "unfrozen" on its own by letting it sit there for 7-8 minutes. I tried screwing it in harder one time, and I tried screwing it in more gently the next. I tried unscrewing it at an angle. I also tried wiggling it around while unscrewing. I tried leaving the inflator valve open while unscrewing, and tried it fully closed and half open as well. In desperation, I even tried unscrewing the tool partially and then trying to push down and force the tool off instead (unsuccessfully). I'm sure I'm forgetting other things I've tried. In each case, the result was always the same: If I wanted to take the tool off, that presta valve core was coming off with it.
Worked like a champ twice... then EPIC fail and a long walk.

I'm really torn with this product. It's size an simplicity makes it a great fit for a small bike bag. It saved my bacon twice. But then the third time I tried to use it - the time I REALLY needed it - the puncturing needle fell out rendering it useless and me stranded.
The two times it did work I was using a Presta valve. It worked really well. The third time was a Schrader valve and I really struggled to get it to fit. But then it broke, so kind of a moot point I suppose.
I really doubt they will replace it. Not sure if I'm going to buy another one or look elsewhere.
***UPDATE*** - not even an hr after posting this review (on a Saturday) I got an email from Mike offering to replace the faulty unit. AMAZING service!! That earns this a 4th star!

Absolutely will not screw onto co2 cartridge without loosing all the co2. Tried changing grommet no luck. Had it for a long time before I needed to use then it was useless. Wasted 10 catridges trying to get it to work.
