Love it!

Love it! We live in a condo and share a wall with a smoker. Often I would come home from work and my apartment would smell like someone had been smoking inside. This air purifier picks up the slightest impurities and automatically turns itself on to quickly eliminate odors and bad air. Even while cooking, the unit is so sensitive within just a couple of minutes it switched itself on 2 rooms away. Highly recommend and I now purchased a second one for upstairs as it's so quiet it's great for bedrooms too.

Cleans Indoor Air in Hazardous Air Conditions - Beautiful High Quality Design
by go2girl (5 out of 5 stars)
November 18, 2018

So like many others in the Bay Area, we have been hit with unprecedented air levels during the Camp Fire disaster, and levels of particles in the air reached 263 on Friday which is "Hazardous" and all local schools were closed a few days ago. I had my 79-year old mother and a cousin with a 2-year old toddler coming to stay for the holidays, as well as two girls ages 9 and 11. We ended up telling the family with the toddler to stay clear of the area. My mom did fly in and we have masks we are wearing if we go outside.

After researching for hours and hours and asking my friends for advice, I went ahead and purchased this air purifier. I have been using it for a few days now. It shipped 1-day from Amazon and I immediately put it to use. After an evening of use, my scratchy throat was better the next day. And the indoor air felt clean and refreshed. As if the window was opened. Here were my main considerations:
* Size of Room
* Effectiveness of Machine
* Size and Look of Machine
* Cost of Machine
* Set up / Ease of Use
* (Noise Level)

SIZE OF ROOM: The first thing you need to identify is the actual size of the room you are trying to clear. My living room, dining room and kitchen are all in one open space so the cooking smells and airflow are an issue. Many of the air purifiers recommended only clear 300' of space. My room is at least 700' large. Ceiling height should also be a consideration. And ideally get one that handles a room much larger (within reason) so your purifier does not have to run on high the entire time.

EFFECTIVENESS: I believe a dual filter system is the minimum for pure air cleaning. We already had the Dyson fan with HEPA filter. This is one level. Adding in an activated carbon filter for smells is another. One machine that was pricey (Molekule $799) has a third level of UV light to kill bacteria which is critical if you have mold. Maybe even if you have dogs. The UV light was overkill for my current needs and also more expensive so I opted for "no" this time around. Molecule also has 3, 6 or 9 month financing which was intriguing but they were out of same day delivery so I opted to go through Amazon. There are different filter consideration is based on air cleaning (HEPA), smell cleaning (CARBON), and bacteria/mold cleaning (UV / Ozone's). There is an added consideration for pet dander.

SIZE and LOOK: I almost bought the taller thinner machine that had customized fronts you could add - but it was too expensive to ship next day. So I did more research and decided on this model. It is LARGE. Like a small side table that unfortunately does not double as a side table because you need to keep the top clear. I personally like the way it looks and it was so easy to set up, plug in, and immediately went to work - it was a wonderful experience. It is clean looking, quality materials and the added lights and sounds really make it high end.

COST: It was not cheap, but in the end was mid-level pricing compared to the other machines that cleared the same area. Over 1200 feet so I am covered.

SET UP / EASE OF USE: I took this unit out of the box, took off the plastic wrap, and took the filters out of plastic bags one set on each side of the machine. Then I plugged it in and started working immediately. I loved the sound feedback when you push the buttons going up and down with the airspeed and also easy to set on auto. I also appreciate the fact that air is filtering from both sides of the unit. For this reason, when in use, It does need at least one and a half to 2 feet of open space on each side of the unit, so it does need to be pulled out when in heavy use.

NOISE LEVEL: I did not really care about the noise level but it is quiet and on AUTO now and it feels cool and peaceful in the room.

BONUS: The last reason I bought it is because it has an auto sensor that automatically kicks up the fan speed when there are more air particulates in the air. This is traditionally during cooking but in my case it was handy when doors would open and closed during this fire season. When I first plugged it in it was purple and took about 10 or 15 minutes to turn blue. This is after one week of no open doors or windows or airflow inside during the fires. I let my neighbor borrow it and it took about half an hour to clear his space which was read and then bright pink and purple and finally turned blue. I wondered if it just turned a different color when it was plugged in because when I brought it back into my unit it turned purple for about 15 minutes before turning blue again. Then, I made some popcorn in during the cooking of the popcorn the unit turned purple again and clean out the air for about half an hour. I found out after meeting the materials you can change the sensitivity level of the particular sensor, but now I believe it is accurate and helpful. I love having the color feedback to confirm the air is clear.

I also bought a Levoit smaller fan for the bedroom at the same time and I have to say it does barely anything. And it feels cheap compared to the Conway. I am going to send it back. I am definitely keeping this Conway Airmega and highly recommend it to other people with the same considerations. I will continue to test the sensitivity level of the sensors and will post more updates if anything new arises.

Proposition 65 warning on a PURIFIER?!
by swakely (1 out of 5 stars)
April 24, 2019

Let me start off by saying, I was SO excited to get this air purifier that I actually ordered two! I got it and it was super easy to put together. It was also really quiet and tested my air quality. Then I did some further research on it, these units have the California Proposition 65 warning, and not only am I currently pregnant, but I also can't believe this has such a warning when the whole purpose is to clean the air. Why put in harsh chemicals that most of us are trying to avoid by getting this in the first place?

WORKS WELL IN A LARGE ROOM
by Kenneth W. Church (4 out of 5 stars)
August 2, 2018

I have been using this filter for a month and it works well. On the lowest setting the fan noise is tolerable. As the fan speed increases the noise is a bit too loud for an office setting. The filters seems to work very well. The mesh pre-filter get dirty quickly but is easy to remove and rinse off in the sink.

This filter is a large device and takes up a significant counter space, 15" wide x 15" long x 23" high. I have it working in a 1600 sf room. It appears to work well without any effort and I have noticed a difference.

My only concern is that the charcoal filters are very expensive and should be changed twice a year. In three years you bough the machine again.

Beware of horrible smell
by kingmajix (1 out of 5 stars)
March 15, 2019

After starting to use the purifier, in a very short time I could notice an unpleasant odor - something like a faint chemical / metallic / plastic type of smell. After running it for about two hours in my bedroom I noticed that odor was lightly spread throughout my entire upstairs. I smelled the air directly coming out of the top of the purifier and the odor was definitely there. I immediately turned off the purifier but the odor persisted and I could start feeling something in my throat as I breathed. I have asthma and I started experiencing symptoms due to this odor.

Now it's the next morning and I can *still* feel it when I breathe which is an awful feeling. And the purifier was only on for about two hours! I can't imagine what it would be like running it for a few days.

In defense of the Airmega, I did a lot of research before buying and I didn't read a single thing like I described above. The unit emits no ozone and has no ionizer so it shouldn't do what I described (which other brands apparently do) but, well, it did. Since I have asthma and am very sensitive to odors you may have a completely difference experience than mine, but I wanted to share what I went through since I feel so terrible right now due to this thing.

Headline: An intelligently designed and very effective air purifier with superior customer service a
by Music Lover Forever (5 out of 5 stars)
July 29, 2018

I purchased the AiIRMEGA 300 during the Santa Barbara fires last December 2017, when the air quality was terrible for many weeks. It brought relief for my respiratory symptoms due to smoke issues even in my apartment. It has been operating continuously, 24/7, on the Smart Mode ever since. Two weeks ago it quit. I am extremely pleased with the excellent customer service provided by Chuck at Coway. This is a very responsive service supporting AIRMEGA products. After one initial phone call, all communication was by email and was prompt and very efficient. I was emailed a prepaid label to return the malfunctioning purifier via UPS. I received a brand new unit free of charge under my warranty.

Super air buy at $499
by christopher (5 out of 5 stars)
June 7, 2018

Was worried spending so much money, but I researched for a week and 40 air filters. Worth the money. This thing is awesome.

Only paid $499 so would buy another if price drops. Don't bother with 400s just get the 400. It cleans air, why do you need an app on your phone? That's dumb and a waste of money.

Most of the time it runs on the lowest setting and is super quiet. Very Quiet
by Kristen D. (5 out of 5 stars)
April 24, 2017

We've owned Airmega for about 2 months. It sits in a room next to the kitchen and backyard sliding door. When strong kitchen odors are present the Airmega turns into high gear automatically and the light changes to red. I was opening a delivery package that was filthy and dusty about 10 feet away from the Airmega and again it sensed the flying dust and kicked into high gear. Most of the time it runs on the lowest setting and is super quiet. Very Quiet! We've notice less dust and animal odors overall. Super easy to operate. Actually it just operates itself and it will let you knw when to wash the large washable particle filter. So far the hepa is functioning at 100% efficeincy. We absolutely love it!

Really enjoy this air purifier
by Jgs (5 out of 5 stars)
August 3, 2017

Really enjoy this air purifier. I like the idea of it being smart so I know it's not needlessly running. It turns itself into night mode at night and kicks its self on and up or down all based on what around it. If I cook it will inevitably go up, if the doors and windows have be closed for a while, 1400 sqft home, it turns itself off.

Also like the feature if it not only telling you when you need to change the filter and wash the lrefikter but it gives you an easy to read gauge of how close you are, not just one minute it's fine and the next it's flashing red and needs to be done. You'll know weeks ahead of time that it's getting close based on the lighted indicator

Bought a new one, but per the instructions was sent a used one
by Jimmy (1 out of 5 stars)
October 2, 2018

So this would be a 5 star purchase, but after opening it up and throwing away the box (stupid me). I sat down to get this ready, and following the instructions, there should of been 4 seals that I had to remove around filters and the actual purifier.

None of those filters were there, but there was lots of dust around some pieces, meaning, the item I bought was in fact, not new, but used / refurbished.

Worthless
by George (1 out of 5 stars)
October 28, 2018

This air purifier does absolutely nothing at all. Easy to assemble. Brand new, out the box. Hear the sound of a low fan noise, but the light never changes. Called tech support, they asked me to clean the sensor in the front because "sometimes Amazon repackages units that have already been used". Dust, smoke, and cat allergens all of which are present in the apartment have absolutely no effect on this air filter. Waste of time and money.
