Screws break easily and Customer Service is very bad
by Mrs. Z (1 out of 5 stars)
March 1, 2015

I bought two KeySmarts at Christmas, one was an extended version with all the bells and whistles for my husband, and I got a regular sized one for myself. My husband and I really liked them, but after only 2 months, the screw in the side broke - it is a very fragile screw, not very strong, and it broke off inside the other tube so that there is no way to get it out or fix it. I am sad to look through reviews now and see many others have the same problem. I contacted KeySmart hoping for an easy replacement or repair - I had read one review where someone said KeySmart replaced their faulty product, so I thought it would be easily remedied. But instead, I got the run around. At first the guy sounded nice and said they'd be glad to resolve the situation, but he kept telling me to use my finger or use an eraser to try to remove the broken off screw! After 7 emails I finally complained about the customer service and asked if a refund was possible and of course now they are silent and ignoring me. I've been very courteous and nice about the matter until the end when I had enough. I don't recommend these unless you make sure to be very careful with them, they aren't very durable, and the customer service is poor. Also I noticed a review that mentioned that when it broke on them, all their keys fell everywhere, and they were afraid they might have lost something. Very upset, if they turn around and remedy the situation and respond with better customer service I will update my review.

The vendor was awesome: 5 stars for a speedy delivery that was much faster than expected. Well done in that regard.

That said, the product itself was terrible. After spending 20 minutes trying to fit the little pieces together and having it fall apart, it occurred to me that the screw design would inevitably become unscrewed in my pocket at some point and would require me to start the whole mess all over again.

And what was the purpose really? This didn't organize them any easier than a ring styled keychain that I could have purchased for less than a dollar and would have given me more confidence that I wouldn't lose my key from the rest of the ring.

It looks cool, and yes, seemed like a good idea in my head at the time, but in execution it turned out to be a waste of time and money.

Good concept but still opportunity
by Zach (3 out of 5 stars)

I've tried KeySmart a few years ago and absolutely hated it.

After continuing to have disorganized keys, getting poked in the leg, and damaging jeans with keys, I wanted to give it another shot. The key holder works great at first, but always loosens up. Every other week I have to tighten it back down, which isn't a big deal, but you can't over tighten it or you can't open your keys. It seems like an unnecessary incontinence to have to keep tightening the screw to keep my keys from falling out. The model two years ago kept falling apart after a few weeks and I would reach in my pocket for keys and find loose parts, keys, USB sticks, etc. It was a cluster.

This is working slightly better, but still gets loose.

Ideal key holder

Absolutely perfect for a single key. Heavy enough that it doesn't bounce out of your pocket, but light enough not to be noticed. Keeps pockets intact from abrasion of loose keys on a key ring. Haven't tried yet on more than one key, though I'm going to switch to two keys. I don't expect any problems there. I don't use the loop feature to hook onto something, but I can see that could be very useful. Classic size much better -- the other size is too lengthy for me. So smaller is better. Tighten the screw enough to retain the key inside with friction. I bought some spares.

This thing is pretty cool once you get it setup
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

This thing is pretty cool once you get it setup. Setup is a real pain at first. But once you get the hang of it, it's not hard to take apart and put back together. I saw a few reviews saying ti comes loose, but I have not had a problem with it. Every once in a while I will tighten for good measure, but didn't think I HAD to tighten. Pretty compact size. Nice to not have keys jingling all the time. I've received some compliments on it and some questions on what it was and then person thought it was pretty nifty.

The one con I can think of is if you use the keyloop to put on a key chain, the keys on the loop side are a little difficult to use since the key chain can get in the way of pulling out the key.

I like this because it's kinda like a swiss army knife for your keys. You can hold the KeySmart in one hand and slide out whichever key you like pretty easily. Also, I cut down my key chain "rewards cards" (i.e.CVS, Stop & Shop, Dick's, etc) and put a couple on the KeySmart as well.

Basically this minimized almost everything on my keychain. All I have now is my little Victorinox knife, Car fob, and the KeySmart.

Works great so far!

I'm writing this as quick, initial feedback. I'll probably update how the keysmart fares after a couple of months. Set up was fairly simple. I could fit 5 regular kwikset/schlage house keys in addition to the link for the car key fobs which was good enough for me. I read some reviews about the screws coming loose and spilling the keys everywhere. I'm hoping that doesn't happen because I'm really liking this set up. There are little o-rings on the screws that seem like they do a great job of not letting the screws loosen. You can adjust the tension/pressure as you please, I prefer them a little tighter side for peace-of-mind. We'll see how it does a month or so from now, but initially I'm pleased with the purchase.

unwieldy, poorly designed
by Reader (2 out of 5 stars)

Unless you only have a few (non-car) keys anyway, in which case it's not clear why this would be appealing in the first place, I'd strongly advise against purchasing this product. It's poorly designed. It's no less unwieldy than the key ring(s) it's presumably intended to replace. Drivers today almost invariably have at least one bulky car key with buttons, perhaps a second key for valet, and maybe another for a spouse's car. The KeySmart does not accommodate even one modern car key -- unless one attaches a small metal circle that's provided (that is, um, a small ring). This strikes me as a strange design for an item that's supposed to be a sleek, more convenient, and smaller substitute for a key ring. In the end, car keys dangle from the KeySmart just as they would from any other key ring. Granted, KeySmart does not represent otherwise. But until you receive the item, it won't be clear how much this defeats the purpose. More generally, the design is poor and nothing innovative. It has two screws on either end. You can stack smaller keys on them and then put the screws back. Anything larger, as noted, needs to attach to mini-ring that's included. To preserve an even stack on each side if (as is likely) one's keys don't stack to the same height on the left and right, the KeySmart includes a handful of black rubber pieces that fit over the screws. These both look and feel cheap. A truly innovative, well-designed holder would indeed be welcome. But don't fall for it. This is not it.

I really like the concept but was unable to duplicate it in practice. I found the task of putting the keys in the holder to be awkward, perhaps partly due to arthritis but still a little frustrating. I also found that my keys apparently are longer than normal since the opposing keys conflicted with each other.Still. it performs the function of gathering the keys in a more orderly manner.

Works and is compact.

Is exactly as described but buy the next size up. Only added the folding knife and the wrench. Plus he only has 3 keys and it feels like it's barely catching. Yes I took out some of the spacers. I also am on a waitlist for the one that has the tracker in it for ur phone.

Slim and efficient key holder
by C. Eric (5 out of 5 stars)
May 23, 2015

- Slim and efficient way to organize my keys, much less bulk than previous key chain ring I was using.
- Works well with utility keys like True Utility TU247 KeyTool http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007IOHPEU/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2?tag=c-t-20 , allowing you to use the KeySmart as a comfortable handle for the utility key bottle openers.

Because my keys are different widths, it did take some extra time to arrange the order to my liking. However, overall this product is great.

Though I tried to accommodate my smaller loyalty cards on:
- the inside (too awkward to swing open and close); and
- the outside (swinging open the cards loosened the bolt when pressed against the rubber gasket) of the stack,

I eventually settled on attaching the loyalty cards via a small keychain loop attached to the keychain spaceholder in the stack.
