... of the Cryptex Round Lock has a well crafted sturdy exterior, as well as the locking mechanism

The design of the Cryptex Round Lock has a well crafted sturdy exterior, as well as the locking mechanism. Unfortunately, the USB it self was improperly made and had barely fit my USB port and nearly broke the port itself. Upon, several attempts to use the USB the computer responded with an error message saying this device may not work properly. This is more than likely an individual issue, and normally I wouldn't post this; however, 4/6 of the items I have purchased from Amazon needed to be returned and I am left frustrated.

Great concept, but poor quality.

Awesome concept for a flash drive, but unfortunately, it didn't work. Flash drive was not recognized when I plugged it into my computer. Tried it on other computers (both Mac and PC) in the house, same result. Some of the screws were loose when I opened the packaging. This wasn't hard to remedy on my own, but the overall craftsmanship and non-functionality was disappointing, considering how much the item was.

It works alright. It doesn't allow you to set your own combination. It's easily beaten by unscrewing the small screws and lifting off the top plate. If you purchase this and will use if for the long run I would suggest using a little bit of a locktite on the screws.

Arrived Broken, clearly broken before even shipping.

The item arrived not only broken, the handle at the top was wrapped broken in the box suspended in the center, so it was clearly but in there broken. But, the USB also didn't work. What a waste of 50 Bucks.

Seriously cool
by Soulwanderer (5 out of 5 stars)

So this little thing actually weighs quite a bit and feels really solid. Just the look of it alone is pretty cool, like a faceless pocket watch. The gears turn smoothly and the USB stick pulls out without too much trouble either once the combination is entered correctly. The combination is printed on inside of the upper lid of the box it comes in, which took me a few minutes to find so I thought I'd mention it. We got this as a prop for an adventure weekend we run each year for my cousins, but once that's over it will find a new home in our mini library as a curio.

I purchase this in August of 2018 after they went out of stock and came back again. A lot of the popular reviews are from 2017 and earlier that said the USB portion didn't work. I don't know if it's relevant to the out of stock to back in stock time frame or not, but we verified that the USB stick works normally on the one we received.

Great quality, bad instructions
by DMG41 (2 out of 5 stars)

I love the idea of this, and the quality of the one I received was very nice. The dials are sturdy and not loose like some of the other reviews I have seen. The problem is, the code given in the instructions doesn't unlock the usb drive. It just doesn't work. I've lined them up perfectly and tried this dozens of times but there seems to be an issue with an incorrect code given in the instructions. I really wish it worked as its a beautiful and different, but alas this is a no go for me.

While it is a cool flash drive

While it is a cool flash drive, the overall manufacturing is a little on the poor side. The screws holding down the face that holds the whole casing together are rather loose but nothing that can't be fixed at home. The bottom line is if you have $50 to spend on a 16 Gig flash drive and don't mind doing a little work on it, it is a good buy. Otherwise I'd pass.

Then design was great, very satisfying to hold and look at

Then design was great, very satisfying to hold and look at. However, I left the country for vacation when I got home, I opened the package the exterior was fantastic but the USB drive itself was poorly made and is not recognized when plugged in. I have tried to have it repaired but I was told that, because you cut corners with the USB drive itself it is irreparable and I would have to order a custom USB. Normally I would just return the item and get my money back, however, I received the package right before I went away on holiday and I am unable to return it, so I am left feeling that I have just wasted $50 of my own money on a worthless nick-nack.

Ordered new, but box suggests otherwise
by L. Krecic (3 out of 5 stars)

The item itself seems fairly sturdy and the flash device worked on first use. As a precautionary measure, I ran virus scans on the drive to make sure it wasn't infected and it came back clean.

The dials are loose and may wiggle out of place when you try to remove and/or replace the drive back in its place.

The box itself looked dirty, used, unsealed and roughed-up. I bought it new, but the box clearly seemed used. I'm beginning to think, based on the state of the box which had numerous scuff marks on it and torn tabs, etc., I wasn't shipped a new item, but a refurbished one. And the damage to the box wasn't caused by shipping as it was placed in a larger, padded box that was unharmed upon delivery.

The instruction booklet is very small and it had initially fallen out of one of the box's tears when I first opened it and I didn't realize it. It wasn't when I went to get the Amazon box it came in in order to return it (thinking I had no code/instruction on how to open it), that I found the booklet on the floor in the other room.

I bought this as a gift for my husband, but I think I may return it given the presentation of the item (state of the box) tells me it's used, and I worry it may not last as long, or be defective because of this. On the other hand, it's entirely possible the item is perfectly fine and I am being overly cautionary. Either way, I can't help but feel disappointed.

USB Drive Defective - Your milage may vary
by Rob Pickering (2 out of 5 stars)
September 1, 2017

I would normally give this item only 1 star because it actually doesn't work (it's a USB drive that doesn't mount).

However, if the encased USB drive actually worked, I would give this 5 stars. The problem is that the USB drive itself, which is encased in a metal sleeve that is then inserted into the Cryptex, does not extend out far enough. That renders it unable to work to on my MacBook Pro (and others have had similar issues on various computers). It DOES work in a MacBook Air I use for work, but that's not my main system, so it doesn't work at all. It's a manufacturing defect and I hope the company corrects it. It needs to extend out about another 1/8 inch.
