Incredibly Bright, Easy to use.

The brightness of the Lume cube is incredible. I purchased a few of these as a portable continuous light source when recording video. The work great and the batter has lasted me for at least an hour. In addition to being used as a continuous light one can use the Lume cube app for taking photographs which will cause these to flash as the picture is being taken.

One potential drawback is that to use the Lume cube application you must register your e-mail address. For me this was no problem for but for some it is an issue. Also to pair these with the phone it is necessary to put in the serial number for the unit. This means that you would need to keep track of the serial number to retain the ability to pair it again with a different phone. Those this is resolved easily enough by just emailing the numbers to yourself so that they can be found later. I've looked to see i there is anything that could be done were the serial number ever lost and as of yet I have not encountered anything. Note that if the camera app built into your phone has any special features you will not be able to access them when using this as a flash. You must either use the Lume cube camera app to take the picture or turn these on as continuous lights to use your own camera app.

The unit is operated by two buttons on the top. When using it as a continuous light a single press on the left button (orientated such that it is facing away from you ) will turn it on at its minimum brightness. Pressing the button again will take it to the next step of brightness with there being ten brightness settings. Pressing on the right button will turn it off. Long presses on these buttons server other functions when using it with the app (bluetooth pairing, sampling the brightness of the room with the built in light sensor).

The units charge over micro-USB. A Micro-USB cord is included. The charging port is covered to protect it from water and is exposed by using a coin to unscrew the USB cover on the back of the unit.

Best Portable Photography Light

If you are looking to pocket a few flashes for photography,videography or aerial drone footage. This is the light to buy its durable rugged, portable small and easy to use UI.

Durable casing good for rugged use

I use the lume cube with my go-pro to do videography & time-lapse. Lume cube give off perfect lighting for my gopro videos when shooting at night. The perfect amount of lights to light up the subject. I also use the lume cube with my drone to do night aerial flying it lights up everything perfectly and it works good as a position light to know where exactly the drone is and headed.

These Lume cube comes in singles, doubles or quads. Unfortunately this is still a new company so they are still slowly making new accessories mount and gadget to use with the cube. The lighting can be too harsh sometimes but it can be solved by using photo gel to diffuse the light a bit.

The lume cube is well built and it feels like it can take a beating or a few drops without any problems. The lume cube app makes it very easy to control via bluetooth more than one cube at the same time if you need different brightness on each cube you can do all that in the app.

The only problem I can see so far right now is if I want the light at a different position I need anything that is around me like a pen or wallet to change the angle of the light. If lume cube has like little adjustable bezel in front and back would be nice to change the angle of the light.

Fantastic light!! Super bright, and very portable. A terrific companion for your smartphone to take photos in low light. Case in point: check out the attached photos I took visiting Alcatraz. The first dark photo was from my LG G3 phone. My Canon 70D dSLR was no better with my travel lens. Then I perched the Lume Cube on the bar ledge, cranked up the brightness, and took another shot with my phone. The difference is amazing!

I'll never travel without this again.

Fouled up electronics...

Worked great the first 5 times it was turned on, then the top right control button quit. Waiting to hear back from Lume Cube. Amazon does not offer a replacement, only a refund? I guess because I bought it on sale?? I want to try another one. So when, or if that ever happens I may change the review depending of course on the results. Anyway, at first testing it seemed decent. It seems to have good solid construction, but the one I got has some messed up electronics! On sale or not though, Amazon should offer a replacement IMO. Maybe its Lume Cube who wont let them??

Update 12-2-2016 Lume Cube is working to get it replaced! After messing with it in the APP, I cant wait to get it back! I ordered another one thru B&H, cuz their return policy is better than Amazon. My fault for not checking I'm sure.

Update 12/15/2016; just received a replacement Lume Cube from the manufacture! Hoping for the best. Got another one already from B&H and it works great. Easy customer service!

Nice and bright little light. The cover to the charging port is a bit of a hassle to get on and off, but that is probably a good thing. Haven't used the phone app, just used the buttons on top. Great for daytime balance of back light, or in pitch black night filming.

These little lights are great. I got it on a Black Friday sale but they're still kind of expensive. The light is very blue, I'm probably going to have an orange gel permanently attached. They do get warm, but not burn your fingers warm that I've noticed.

Produces a very bright (but adjustable), very white light! This will definitely work to bring out true color in video. Makes a nice fill flash with the iPhone as well, especially when out of range of the phone flash. I'll be getting another one or two in the future!

Great light. Makes alot of shadow for indoor close up shooting. Love the mobility. I have been using on video shoots to light faces when back drop is not a big deal. Comes in very handy to use as fill light. My camera guy loves them!!! these are great for video marketing videos.

This Light is super cool. I love it, and I find it to be incredibly useful. I already dropped it as I was riding my bicycle, and it worked perfectly afterwards. This is a great product. I might buy another one soon.
