Not Safe
by JMitch (1 out of 5 stars)

I've had this tree not quite six months. While the cats really loved it, it just now splintered apart from the top and broke, with one cat climbing on the top level, and the other below that. One was slightly hurt, both are really spooked. In observing the construction, the area that anchors to the metal post is of a cheap particle board that for whatever reason just tore apart when a nine pound cat jumped on it. This is not sturdy and not safe, and I'm really upset that my cats were injured and scared by shoddy construction. Very, very upset.

Update to the review: the company was kind enough to send another top perch, and said that the problem was very rare, and that the designers were addressing the issue...so, they are responsive and kind, and I do appreciate that. However, after reinstalling, I just no longer felt confident about it, plus the cats have not gone near that area since the accident. Therefore, since they're now frightened of the product, and I feel paranoid about it too, we have discontinued its use entirely. A real shame. I'm currently seeking a solid wood replacement, locally crafted. The makers were very nice about this, but ultimately the risk was not worth it. I do however feel it would be perfectly safe for small kittens.

CATS LOVE IT!!!

So at first I couldn't get this cat haven tree house tower to be stable. When I put it together it was completely wobbly as others had posted in their reviews. I tried loading the base with something heavy as one reviewer had suggested to no avail. I was frustrated beyond belief. I had my husband take a look at it and within 30 minutes he figured it out. Here is the missing piece of information no one has seemed to write into their review. The top piece platform that goes on last, the hole that you place the rod into actually has a screw thread in it. So in order to secure the whole tree as stable and not wobbly, without adding extra parts from the hardware store, you have to turn the top piece of platform to screw in the entire tree into place. You're virtually screwing the piece of platform on and as you twist it locks the other pieces and the center pole into place. Keep turning until it's all tight and locked into place. You won't need extra parts I promise.

Now that it's assembled completely and stable, my cats LOVE it!!! I have 2 kitties and one of them is 20 lbs. He likes to jump on the top platform and survey his kingdom, and peek out from between the branches. Definitely get this for your cats! It's a great buy, comparable in price to other cat trees but it actually resembles a tree which makes it more appealing to both cat and owner.

Kitty Treehouse of Dog Terror

I saw this advertised on a different site for twice the price. So was happy to have found it for a more reasonable cost on amazon. It's a cute addition to my living room. It came in a ginormous heavy box. Was not difficult to put together by myself. The trunk is hard plastic in segments that fit over a central pole and and the levels screw onto the central pole between the trunk segments keeping them in place. It is heavy and sturdy. Good for climbing. My cat loves it. His favorite game now (a sentiment not shared by the dogs) is playing death from above. He hides behind the leaves and peaks out at the dogs. Then drops onto them like a leopard on a gazelle. Lots of fun for the cat. The dogs are slowly learning to avoid kitty's death tree. He enjoys sharpening his claws on the grassy bit. And he will lay under the tree on the grass sometimes, like it's a shade tree. He is getting exercise by climbing it. Now he can run right up it to the top without pausing. He gets quite the arm workout going between the levels when he dead lifts himself with his front paws, like he's doing dips. The dogs have noticed and again are becoming more wary. So in short: cat gives it five stars. Dogs are wondering about the return policy.

Don't waste your time

I had this tree for less than a week.

I assembled it, and it felt very wobbly. Broke it down, started over, and it was still wobbly. I put it in the corner of a room with added support on two sides from the walls. My cat was apprehensive about the tree because it was so wobbly.

I've noticed that even some of the positive reviews of the tree note that the tree is wobbly. If it's wobbly when you first set it up, what's it going to be like a few months later? It'll probably topple over onto someone! It's not made to last.

Today, I read a recent review that advises using some extra washers and nuts to reinforce the shoddy construction and make the tree usable. After scrolling through a couple of other reviews, I've seen others say the same. Might be indicative of a problem?

I was going to disassemble the whole thing and put it back together with the extra parts. I unscrewed the top perch. The screw mount at the bottom of the perch had burst through the cardboard-like material. I've attached a pic. I'm so glad I discovered this issue on my own before the tree collapsed on my cat.

I see that another customer had this issue, and the perch fell on her cats. Poor things! The manufacturer said that it was caused by "overtightening upon installation." Well, why is that even possible? Also, you wouldn't need to "overtighten" it if the tree was actually stable in the first place.

I had cheapo Armarkat tree for years. It cost about half the price as this tree, and while it didn't look pretty, it was much more stable, and it never broke!

I'm sending the broken tree back.

Figured out how to make it more sturdy! Undo all hardware and use long pole at bottom and the small

UPDATE - the next day we thought the tree condo was broken, so we undid everything. This is how we found out to take the long pole and insert it in the bottom. And put the extension piece at the top. WOW - it solved so many issues by doing this. So undo the hardware that it comes in. Must redo how it arrives. Put long pole attached to the bottom then when you insert each layer add a washer and nut to pull it down and secure, then the long pole will fit the design and you won't have to shave off anything. You have to purchase washers and nuts. You will need 2 washers and 2 nuts. Now assemble and put the extension piece at top and tighten the top layer. The tree is so much sturdier now.. Awesome! It works great now. We also stuffed some paper and towels around the pole to help keep the pole centered int he plastic trunks. So be prepared to fix it a bit. Now onto the fur babies. Cats love it. Like how they like Christmas trees. I have 4 and all were on it at once - see pics. One of my orange tabbies is 18 pounds and it holds him fine. I put cloth around the artificial grass at bottom, like a Christmas tree skirt idea. Classes it up a bit more than having artificial grass at the bottom. But the cats love the fake grass idea. The cat condo though is very creative thinking and the cats love the leaves to hide in. None of mine tried to eat the leaves. Overall a fun idea. Just I can't give 5 stars due to the fact of needing to fix it a bit.

Review from 3..
by Hooked on Amazon! (4 out of 5 stars)

Here's review from the 3 cat house inhabitants...

Cat 1 - Too heavy/lazy (22#) to get to the upper levels, but enjoys the grassy base.

Cat 2 - Heavy (21#), but makes it to the first level and hides behind the leaves

Cat 3 - OK, she's the "perfect one at 10#" - loves the entire tree.

It's not super stable; rocks a bit when the kids jump on or off, but has never fallen over. Carpet flooring of each level seems to be holding up fairly well (after several months) and the "foliage" has lost a few leaves, but one of these days I'll get the glue gun out and do a repair job... nothing urgent yet.

Follow up - 3 months later and this tree is holding up just great. Very few leaves have fallen. The branches get pushed aside from the cats jumping in and out of the tree, so once in a while I "spruce" 'em up a little bit (the branches - not the cats!) and all is well. Cats, surprisingly, are still using this. Recently bought some artificial vines; May add a few (with the glue gun) to make the two lower levels even more secluded.

Not safe for cats!!!!!
by QK 1 (1 out of 5 stars)

I should have paid attention to the red flags when I saw the statement that all materials were pet safe and non-toxic. Be prepared that if you buy this and have a cat that likes to chew on things that your tree will get eaten. Not only will it get eaten, it will then be thrown up all over your house. I know that it clearly states the leaves are non toxic, but I worry that if I leave this tree up, my cat will eventually get a blockage and very ill from ingesting all of these leaves. And don't bother recommending a spray to deter chewing...I would NOT recommend that either. This was a HUGE waste of money. It also was not that easy to put together and is not that sturdy. Please look elsewhere. It is not worth a trip to the vets with a blocked/sick cat.

I'm not sure I can say it's worth the price, but if you have the money it certainly is fun.

My cats fight over this tree. I've got one submissive cat that likes to hide and she can usually be found sleeping in the branches on the top shelf when the more alpha cat is hanging out with me. I sprinkled it with cat nip to get them interested and it certainly worked! I was afraid this would be a huge waste of money as cats are so finicky but im pleased to say mine use it enough that im happy I got it. It provides great hiding places for the cats.

It comes with the shelves stacked and 2 rods: one long and one short. The way it comes has the short rod already screwed into the base with the intention that the long rod be screwed on top of it. I switched it out and screwed the long rod into the base and the short rod to the top. I think this increases stability a lot. It's still a little shaky in that it sounds like rustling leaves when a cat jumps on it, but my cats are 11 lbs and 8 lbs and haven't had any trouble with it moving too much, scaring them, or them falling off.

I did deduct 1 star because the tree trunk looks really cheap and shiny and it could be more sturdy. For the price I think both of these problems should be addressed. But I do love it anyway. So do my cats. I'm not sure I can say it's worth the price, but if you have the money it certainly is fun.

It's rock solid, my cats love it, and it's adorable.

I purchased the three tier tree with the square base. I'm not sure if the product has changed since some of the reviewers purchased it, but I put it together according to the instructions with no extra odds and ends and it's solid as a rock. I did use a pair of pliers and a small wrench to tighten the threaded bolts and the connectors as needed. My cats are really enjoying it so far. I think they feel hidden behind the leaves. The tree also looks good and doesn't take up the whole living room. My cats would probably love it even more if the trunk we're sisal, but I'm glad it's smooth plastic because I suspect it won't be torn up and ratty looking as quickly. The cats have lots of room to lay and play on it without having the tree take up a ton of space. It's an all around win for my house!
