Came defective with questionable wiring inside

I received a defective unit. I charged it, but it didn't work. I opened it up to take a peek inside, and found exposed copper wires were flimsy and shorting on themselves, and one of them had become detached from the circuit board it was supposed to connect to. When I pushed the wire down to the circuit board, it began to work intermittently, but I certainly don't trust it.

Also, the lithium polymer battery pack was only held down with a small strip of tape, which left a lot of "wiggle" room. In fact, when I first picked up the lighter, I felt and heard something shaking loose inside of it. Well, it turns out it was the battery. Over time, I can imagine this will wear on the wires that go into the battery.

The good: the main body is metal, most likely aluminum. The slide mechanism that both protects the arc leads and doubles as a safety that covers the ignition button is a smart bit of engineering. The packaging is great too -- makes a great gift box. But even then, a lot of the unit feels like cheap plastic.

Overall, not only was it defective, but I'm not overly impressed with the guts of the unit. I'll consider getting a replacement as clearly it's popular enough to get 5 stars, so something must be good about it. But right now the jury's out due to the overall construction choices.

Good candle lighter

Product broke after first use. Received yesterday and it worked fine the first time I tried lighting a candle. The second candle did not light as the spark stopped appearing even though it made a sound. Tried charging it for a few hours. Still no spark. Unfortunately you can not return on Amazon. So please save your money.

UPDATE: After contacting the manufacturer directly, they sent me a new product immediately free of charge. They apologized and wanted to ensure I had a positive experience with the lighter. Great customer service there. The new unit works great and I've already tested it a few times. Didn't encounter any issues.

Fell apart from the inside

When I first got this lighter, it was so awesome. It worked really well. Used it a bunch for 4th of July. Made it easier to light fireworks of all kinds in the wind. Then I took it camping with us, and one night had it in my back pocket. Used it a couple times, once to start the camp fire. By the time I took it out of my pocket that night, it had completely fallen apart. Each of the black and silver plastic pieces came separated. The switch that extends and retracts the elements disconnected from everything else. ZERO physical damage to the lighter on the outside. It just came apart inside. Now it's worthless, because the electrodes aren't close enough together to create a full arc.

Now I have to wonder if there's a warranty on this thing.

I tried to use this tool after a year of sitting in the drawer. At that point, I could not find the the charging chord, Uppex-USA sent me another chord-no questions asked. When the unit didn't charge, the customer service rep sent out a replacement ASAP even though I had ordered the unit almost a year and had only used once. I was impressed by their ability to please the customer without a lot of questioning. I would definitely order another. It is nice to know that there are still businesses out there that still put the customer first no matter what!

I have had this lighter for a little under year and it worked great up until yesterday when it suddenly stopped working. A little bit frustrated I wrote an email to customer service and to my surprise they offered to replace the lighter free of charge even though it was past the warranty.

I understand the things break (especially when it's constantly in open flames and has moving parts) but I really appreciate when a company stands behind their product.

I liked the product so much that even if they hadn't replaced it I probably would have bought another one.

Good idea, but fatally flawed. The design seems great, and it will work for a short while, but after a few uses, the lighter will fail. The reason seems to be that soot, and perhaps other materials, short out the spark. One can take a tissue and clean the sparking terminals, after which the sparker will work again for a while. Eventually, no amount of cleaning will bring the sparker back to life. I would definitely NOT buy this product again. (It's not my unit either. Early on I complained, and the manufacturer replaced the unit at no cost, but the 2nd one failed in exactly the same way. Like I say....flawed design.)

I love this item. I purchased this along with several candles as a present for my mother. She absolutely loves it. Its so handy and easy to work. You just slide the cover down and press the button. I only have one small complaint about this item. I'm not sure if it is a small defect or if it always happens with these kind of lighters. Whenever I hold down the button for more than around three seconds, the lighter starts to make a very high pitched noise which gets very annoying when a candle will not light. That's only a small bug with the lighter though, overall its a very cool idea and I would recommend this to anyone.

One worked - One didn't

Well... I purchased two of these. One works like a charm and the other does not work at all. I charged them both for five hours, then tried charging the one that wouldn't light for a full day - still nothing. I will be returning the defective one and am on the fence about reordering another or trying a different seller. The one that works is great, so 50% of my order was a success.

UPDATE - I was contacted by customer service who kindly offered to send me a replacement for the defective lighter and Amazon refunded me even though they could not accept its return. Excellent customer service by both parties!

Magic of electricity :) Works great, not extremely robust though so you have to be careful.

Update 2017-03-13: stopped working after 2 months or so of light usage (lighting candles). You can still hear the sound but there's no visible arc anymore. There's tiny arc when the electrodes are closer together.

Works well to light candles ...No more need for butane refills

Works well in a breeze and less of a burden to get past child proof features than our previous long reach lighter

More care and a steady hand are needed to align the arc vs. a flame...downside is that it easy to break a candle wick if you bump the wick by mistake and sometimes we get wax on the electrodes when not enough care is taken
