Great retro system. Don't get ripped off.by DLH (5 out of 5 stars)

The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is a very cool retro gaming system that comes pre-loaded with 30 classic NES games. By now, it's not a secret that the system can be easily expanded to play over 700 games if so desired. Whether or not to do this is up to you. Also, this system used to be near impossible to find at the retail price. That is no longer the case. I see these available at the regular retail price at numerous retailers every week now. Don't get ripped off by people selling them at a premium. Also, watch out for sellers selling fake bootleg systems. Buy from a reputable source.
Now that we got those things out of the way, back to the system. It comes with one wired controller, HDMI Cable, USB Cable, and USB Power Supply. The wire on the controller is on the short side, but you can purchase extension cables for only a few dollars. Generic controllers are also very inexpensive, and there are even wireless controllers available. Once you hook the system up, the games play well. They look the same as they did 30 years ago. If you're looking for some 8-bit nostalgia, The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition won't disappoint.
Not A Pay-Only-Once Gaming System...

My review is about the hardware.
I bought and picked up from an Amazon Treasure Truck. At the time, I wasn't expecting to spend more money on it, given that it's a pretty simple console with many classic games preinstalled, but...
Nintendo really made this console a classic, even the length of the controller cord was designed to be fitted for the CRT TV era in the 80s and 90s...
If you have a decent size flat screen TV (which you should, given that the console only supports HDMI) and are used to the wireless controllers that come with the latest gaming consoles, you will likely find the controller cord too short.
I have a 60 inch TV which is pretty common nowadays. Even by pulling the power cord, HDMI cable and controller cord all the way towards me, I still have to be less than 5 feet away from the screen in order to play. Obviously, that's too close to be enjoyable given the size of my TV. If you have a much smaller TV, say 40 or 32 inch, or even better, a computer monitor, then you might be able to get away with the standard cord.
For me, I will have to either extend both the power cord (which is just a standard micro USB cable) and* the HDMI cable. OR extend the controller's cord(s). You can find a pair of controller extension cables for about $10 on Amazon.
The console supports up to 2 controllers/players (depending on the games you play), but it only comes with one controller. You will have to buy another controller separately if you want to play with someone else.
Here's a plus: It comes with a universal power adapter 100-240v, so technically you can travel with it overseas if you want to.
So here's the bottom line: While I don't regret the purchase, don't be surprised if you need to spend more money on the setup to improve playability.
AWESOME PRODUCT

It was awesome to play the old games again without buying a refurbished NES. The games play and sound the same, so they nailed it. Yes, the controller cord is as short as everyone says, but if you have a long HDMI cable you can get some distance that way, or get a wireless. I have nothing but good things to say about this product.
Summary - Sad story of a sixty dollar console costing an arm ...

This is a review of the Nintendo NES Classic Edition Console.
Summary - Sad story of a sixty dollar console costing an arm and a leg. Why? Nostalgia and good old memories for me as I was born in the 80's. I truly missed the old school Nintendo and controller feel. This is exactly what I needed but not at the price point it should have been. Since this is a discontinued item now, I am beyond thrilled I could get my hands on one last minute before the price doubled. The graphics as exactly as I recall and gameplay was the same. If you can get one yet for a good price, I would certainly recommend. Best of all, no more removing cartridges to blow them out to get them to work and unlike most new consoles, no internet or fancy setup needed.
The box contained the NES console, a controller with an approx. 30" cord, an HDMI cable, manual as well USB power adapter and cable to power the unit. USB power adapter included provides 5.2V at 1amp. So even if you lose the OEM adapter, you can use aftermarket very easily.
As just about everyone has noted, the included controller- cable is going to be short for just about every setup. Recommend getting the wireless controllers or the 10-foot controller extensions which are both very cheap thankfully.
The unit looks just as the initial Nintendo did, however, mini of course. Connections are secure on my unit and it works exactly as it was supposed to.
The display can be set for three different types. Pixel Perfect which makes the view a square, 4:3 which is like a widescreen effect and CRT which makes it less clear to simulate playing on an old tv.
The unit has 30 pre-loaded games which are in fact a wonderful combo of the major hits I played and back in the day and wanted to play again.
Included pre-loaded games in alphabetical order include Balloon Fight, Bubble Bobble, Castlevania, Castlevania II Simon's Quest, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Double Dragon II The Revenge, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Final Fantasy, Galaga, Ghosts N Goblins, Gradius, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure, Mario Bros, Mega Man 2, Metroid, Ninja Garden, Pac-Man, Punch Out, Star Tropics, Super C, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 2, Super Mario 3, Tecmo Bowl, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II The Adventure of Link.
For those who are tech savvy, there has been excellent documentation found online to modify the console to add hundreds of titles. Articles indicate the ability to load up to 800 games.
In terms of durability, the console is extremely light and contains a simple board for emulation of the old games.
Wish List
-Ability to change games using the controller vs. needing to use the reset button.
-Longer controller cord.
-Ability to easily update the ROM list without in-depth system mods.
Workes for 4 month

This is an awesome gaming system but it worked for 4 months and then the mother board and power just died. These are not built like the Nintendo's of the old days. That is for sure. Buyer beware

At first, it worked just fine, but after just 2 weeks of usage it doesn't work right anymore. It will work about once every couple of days for about 15 minutes and then shutdown.

Product is great. Scalpers suck. I blame Nintendo ultimately though. Apparently they don't like money.

Saves games and uses codes!
by Adrianna F (4 out of 5 stars)

This little nintendo is so cool! While there are games pre-installed and you can't use actual cartridges, the pros far out weigh that factor. You can save any game that you play on the device simply by hitting the reset button. Once you do the system will instruct you on how to save and you can save up to 4 games. If you forget about your game play on pause, the system will shut itself off but will allow you to resume your game once you reset the power. You can also use any of the old Nintendo codes and tricks to gain special features or skip levels and more. There are definitely glitches during game play, but to me its quite nostalgic of having an original Nintendo. The only negative is that it comes with 1 controller and the cord is ridiculously short. It is almost impossible to play without buying an extension cord, unless you want to sit 3 ft from the tv screen.
