Great Remix of the Greatest Classic

This game is so hilarious. If your friends are fun people with a good sense of humor, this will be a riot. The more players, the better, because the easier it will be to win. I highly recommend seriously ragging on any of your friends who end up dead for maximum hilarity. Can't handle the dysentery? Get off the Oregon Trail!

It would be much better if the instructions were more clear

It would be much better if the instructions were more clear. There are definitely things that you have to infer what the rule means. When I played it, we ended up agreeing on how to interpret them, which worked for us. We did enjoy the game, even with the ambiguous rules!

Doesn't live up to the hype.

Honestly I was very disappointed by this game. The rules were unclear, play was not fun since there was absolutely no strategy involved, and there were obvious changes to improve the gameplay that could have been made. As it was, most players just sit out most of the game after they've died, and the success of the other players is completely random. Even playing a simple card game like Crazy Eights has more strategy and is more engaging.

Good for nostalgia, not so great for group play
by sammy100 (3 out of 5 stars)

I like the concept of this game (definitely has a lot of nostalgia value). Unfortunately, it is not a game you can whip out and expect your entire group to be involved with for a long period of time. As with the computer version of the Oregon Trail, a lot of players "die" early in the game, leaving one to two people continuing to play while the others just kind of watch or do something else. There is some fun in that the person who last left the game gets to write the epitaph for the next player to leave.

Overall, it is a good nostalgia kick, but you may have to modify the rules a bit if you want to occupy everyone.

So much fun you will forget that you died of dysentery.

This game is much harder than the old Apple2e game of yesteryear! You think you can make it to the Willimette Valley? Think again intrepid traveler. You and your party will likely die of starvation, snake bite, or dysentery. The game is loads of fun, even if all your oxen die and you cant ford the river to save your soul. Get ready for a party like no other as you and your party travel the trail and tempt fate along the way. Good luck making it to the end, as we have played several times now and we all wind up dying of something horrid and never manage to see Oregon...

Not fun for 2 players or if you like strategic thinking
by WF (1 out of 5 stars)

Don't be fooled like I was buying this from childhood nostalgia. This game sucks.

Claims to work with two players. First card I pull, and it kills me instantly. That's it. Game over already. One person left to play by themselves. Fun right? No. And not uncommon either. Lots of cards do this.

The creators seem to think its fun to make the game hard by randomly killing players in a co-op experience. Problem is that sucks. And its not even hard in a difficulty sense, because there's zero skill or strategy involved.

My 3 boys LOVE this game (and they are way too young to remember the original version)!! It's played cooperatively, and keeps the attention of even the 3 year old, but is still complex enough for the 9 year old. Watch out for that snake bite!

Fun Game, a little hard to figure out...

Took us a little while to figure out how to play. There are a lot of instructions but still a lot of information missing and we found ourselves guessing what the rules are in different situations. That said this is a very fun game to play and we all enjoyed it once we figured it out. My kids are 10 and 12. I played this when I was a kid in school, it brought back good memories.

Nice adaptation!

This is a fun--and challenging--card game adapted from the classic PC game. The rules could be a bit clearer in some instances. We found that we figured things out by playing the game that the rules weren't clear on. You can play it with a minimum of 2 players, but it's more fun with more people (especially when dysentary strikes and takes out a player!). Overall it's an excellent game.

Underwhelming
by Amazon Customer (2 out of 5 stars)

This is an incredibly simple game, to the point of removing all strategy. The instant death cards are absolutely awful, since they can take players out of the game permanently with as much as an hour of playing time still to go. Who wants to sit around and watch other people play a game for half an hour? Not only that, but the fact that the trail cards must all be played to get to Oregon (and that you must play until you don't have any cards that can continue the trail) leaves little variability in the number of calamities you will face. This game is 99% luck, with the other 1% being based on the number of players.

If you still want to play this, I highly recommend either playing multiple characters or gathering several friends to ensure you have the maximum of 6. This will give you more supplies overall and mitigate the risk of instant death (you'll likely find 1-2 instant death cards each game, and in a 2 player game this means you don't have a chance even with perfect planning).
