This was a gift for my husband, and we've both loved playing with it! We're brewing our second batch and waiting (not so patiently) for our first batch to finish carbonating so that we can give it a try!

The kit really does have everything you need to get started, although I recommend if you enjoy it that you seriously consider picking up a case of glass swing-top bottles. The plastic ones that come with the kit are okay, but the glass ones are far classier and will last longer.

The MrBeer site and forums have hundreds of great tips and other resources, as well as unique recipes created by other brewers - definitely don't skip getting registered (free) on their site and taking advantage of them! I also highly recommend the book Home Brew Beer by Greg Hughes - it has the most user-friendly design I've yet seen and is a great resource for understanding the process and your many options!

Also, it is worth noting that this kit comes with a light ale - if that's not your favorite kind, be sure to grab a couple other refill kits so that you can start with something you'll really enjoy!

The carbonation tablets were opened. Maybe by Customs? Asked a question to see what we could do, and while waiting for a response, the "window for return" closed. So now stuck with a set that I am afraid to use. Disappointing. Oh, and the packing slip said "DVD included". No DVD included. Maybe this was a return??

Really Good for the money
by Ronni Ben-israel (5 out of 5 stars)

I still dont know how the final product is going to come out, but before bottling I took a little taste and it was pretty ok. It kind of tasted like flat beer, which i've heard is what it should taste like, i was a little worried about flavor because I used tap water and my sanitation was mediocre, however i am excited to taste the final product in a few weeks, hopefully I can wait that long... it is cheap and good for the money if you plan on brewing for a long time i would buy a more expensive one, but if you are just experimenting to see if you like it this is a much easier way then from scratch ... takes 1 hour to make the wort, while scratch takes about 8 hours to brew the wort....

now i've been a little bit impatient with allowing time to ferment and bottling, i let it ferment for 10 days bottled for 9 days then took one bottle and conditioned it in the fridge for 2 days i know i should have given it more time but it came out really good still just make sure not to pour the trub into your glass when drinking, it leads to an off flavor

Looks Great. Perfect Size. Product ALMOST As Expected

I haven't made my first batch of home brew yet, but the unboxing was good, I live in an apartment so the size is perfect for me. I didn't want to invest a lot of money in big equipment only to find out I don't enjoy home brewing. The size is a great start for those in apartments or just want an inexpensive way to try home brewing. PLUS, it's cheaper than buying the kit from mrbeer.com.

The product is as described with one exception: This product comes with 11 740ml bottles, not the 8 1-lier bottles as mentioned in the product description.

When i drank alcohol, i loved this kit. I was definitely challenged with a sanitized area.

I got my buddy to try the kit when i was threw with drinking. He lived it for the short period, but it got him deep into the brewing hobby and moved on to more complex brewing.

This Beer kit is certified GOOD!!!!!

With the majority of online reviews being positive, decided to give MR. BEER a try. With the first keg arriving Dec., 2010, here's a review with results from using the Premium Kits to brew a West Coast Pale Ale.

Procedures used were: - strict adherance to the sanitizing process - exclusive use of Spring Water (not tap) - fermenting temp. observed above 65 deg. F - minimum bottling temp. 70 deg. F - careful to use all the ingredients (spatula to get every drop from the canned contents) - use of exactly measured plain white sugar for bottling - fermenting and bottling gestation done in complete darkness - used the recommended 2 week interval between all 3 stages.

This is the first time to brew and unlike other reviewers, am no expert but enjoy drinking beer when watching NFL football games.

The Result:

West Coast Pale Ale - Clear golden color, good carbonation, good head retention. Tastes in between the Classic American Blonde Ale and Cowboy Golden Lager. Weakest flavor among all the brews made but still tastier than light beer.

Preferring American style light (Coors, Bud, Miller) beer, the quality from all the Mr. Beer brews I've made are all tastier. Published alcohol content may be less, but the actual "hit" is very smooth. Don't know were some of the reviewers got their "watery" taste and no "head" opinions. More likely, these sub-standard results were due to their using less than ideal sanitazion conditions, using tap chlorinated water, and/or rushing the brewing process.

Got a lot of good tips from various online reviews, which minimized/eliminated mistakes. When one batch of beer is ready for bottling, reserve yourself 3 hours to bottle starting from a fully fermented keg, then re-clean, re-sanitize and have another brew batch inside the keg to start re-fermenting. My greatest advise would be to take your time in all aspects. It will result in a home made beer you can be proud off. Am using 3 fermenting kegs to get brewing into full production. Saving money is one thing, but drinking terrific tasting beer is the all-important consideration. My days of buying retail beer are history thanks to Mr. Beer and Amazon's great service.

It's a great little kit to get you on the road to ...

This beer turned out gross as s***! But otherwise, it got my husband to stop SAYING that he wanted to make beer one day, and actually got him to make it (about 8 months after I bought it for him, but hey - progress). It's a great little kit to get you on the road to thinking it's time for you to start up your own brewery one day. Baby steps.

What a disgrace!!! The can that makes the sort expired in 2014. The corn syrup package was open and rock hard. How can this actually be sold on amazon. Do better!

Perfect for the beginner home brewing enthusiast

Perfect for the beginner home brewing enthusiast. I used this kit several times, reodering supplies from Mr. Beer to make different beers. Having the bottles with the kit really came in handy for use when I would bring my own beer to outdoor concerts.
