A Lot Of Drum Styles Are Packed In Here
by PATOLA (4 out of 5 stars)

This pliable drum kit has an impressive array of sounds it can create. You have 9 drums for the sticks and 2 foot pedals for bass drums. In addition to that, there is the ability to change the different types of drums with a style button. Being a novice I don't know the technical names - regular drums you'd hear in a band, drums that sound more like they are from the islands etc...

There is also a demo mode where you can hear different genre's of drum beats and a tempo button to increase or decrease the tempo of the beat. There are also buttons to record and play the beats that you make. What none of the buttons have is an indicator light telling you what level the volume is on, which type of drum you are using, what style of music is being demo'd etc...

Because this set does not include speakers you have you source your own. It comes with a 3.5mm cable so you can connect speakers. This is where my angst over this product comes in. I tried 2 different speakers and neither would play the sounds coming from this kit. Both speakers work fine on their own, just not with this kit. I tried using the AUX cable that came with the kit and I tried using their own cords...nada.

It does work with earphones though which is fine if you are playing to yourself and not wanting to disturb others, but I wanted to play out in the open but I can't. You also have the ability to play along with music on your cell phone which is pretty cool, but again you can't play out loud - only with your head phones.

Here's a tip I did since I am a beginner, I pulled up YouTube where there is a ton of beginner drum lessons and was able to practice what was taught while listening through my ear phones.

Something that is small, but what I would put on the wish list for second generation is on the back of the power source each section is labeled, but in order to read what it says you have to turn the whole unit around. Since this set is easily bendable it would be nice if the writing were viewable when you bent it forward. I'm not sure I explained that clearly so I included some pictures so you see what I mean.

I must say they packed a lot of different sounds in the small kit enough to keep anyone busy and the sounds are really true-to-life. I would've done a video review so you could hear it, but speaker option doesn't work. If it were not for that, this would've been a 5 star review.

Do you like to play? Get one for yourself!

I actually picked this up on premium days for a small price for my grandson who is a drummer and actually is in a high school drum corp. After I purchased it, I read the reviews and discovered that this product was purchased mainly for smaller children. However, I am a child at heart and Love to play. My grandson opened it and proceeded to drum without abandon, especially when he was able to play with the music provided with the kit. The smile on his face and the fun he had playing this unit and the fun all the family had watching him was amazing and well worth the price!

A poorly designed toy.

I got this for my 11 year old. He's been taking drum lessons for a couple of years and is in band and jazz band. He has a real drum kit, but I thought this would be fun for him to get some drum time in while in his room and in a way that doesn't rock the whole house. He was not at all impressed by the RockJam kit.

This is a toy. It is not a tool for someone who plays the drums. The sticks are not full size drum sticks, but are significantly shorter. They are very light and don't feel smooth. The drum pad itself is quite a bit smaller than I expected. The sound, described on the product page as "similar" to a nonelectric drum kit, is not at all realistic. I guess you could call it similar the way recorder sounds similar to a flute. One of the cymbals sounds nothing like any kind of real cymbal. The cord is very short, only three feet or so.

We immediately noticed a strange sort of feedback on this kit. When my son hits a pad, there's a noticeable high pitched beep immediately after. It's present on all of the pads as well as the pedals.

You know those little keyboards that have some programmed songs we all had as kids? The ones you'd use to annoy your parents by playing Jingle Bells in barking dog voices? This is the drum equivalent of that.

Looking for a toy to pretend to play drums on? This is fine for that. If you are looking for an experience that is anything like actually playing the drums, this is not going to give it to you. I would not at all recommend this as an alternative to any kind of actual electronic drum pad set up and certainly not as an alternative to a drum kit.

I bought this for a 6 year old boy for Christmas. The sound is amazing. I bought the product because it can be used with headphones and reduce the noise level in my home. However, the headphone port is defective. After plugging the headphones in two times, the headphone port no longer works when the headphones are plugged in completely. After wiggling the headphone plug around I got sound, but they are completely useless unless I hold the headphone plug halfway into the port during each use which defeats the purpose of headphones. I note that I tried the headphones in other devices and the headphones worked with no problem. Likewise, the USB power cord was defective and cheap quality. After being plugged in twice, the part of the cord that plugs in to the drum system fell apart (the black cover fell off and the metal wiring was exposed). So, I am dissatisfied with this product.

Great for beginners

These are great. We like that they have a plug in for headphones and built in speakers. Your child can practice on his/her own with the headphones on and let everyone listen when a song is ready. There is different background music to play the drums along with. These are great beginning drums. They roll up and don't take up a lot of space.

Perfect for the Aging Rocker with a Peace Loving Spouse
by Michele Delehanty (5 out of 5 stars)

I got this for my elderly husband who has always banged on something for over fifty years. He tried using regular drums and sticks, but found that they were aggravating his arthritis after a few minutes. He was skeptical when he received this set of roll up drums. What he found was that he could use his hands instead of sticks and get the same sound! The drum pads are very sensitive to touch so not much pressure is needed to beat them, He enjoyed it for a solid two hours and had no aches and pains afterwards.

The Best part for me is that I don't have to listen to it if I don't want to! YES!!! He really loves hard rock and roll and he likes to put on music through the TV. He was able to hook this drum set to his television ears and hear everything perfectly without me having to hear a thing. He was able to adjust his drum volume separately from the TV channel music and get the effect he wanted in just a few hook ups. I highly recommend this if you have an aging rocker with the heart of a raging drummer. It made him very happy!

A great option for beginners!

My son's been begging for drums for years. Standard drums were not an option with a large family. This is the perfect alternative since he can use headphones or ear plugs. It connects to the computer too so he can use a music software program with it. Sound quality is great, very realistic.

Cymbals randomly sound as you're playing other areas
by Amazon Customer (3 out of 5 stars)
December 21, 2017

This item has the potential to be excellent. I took it out of the package to test it and it has several excellent features! It can be battery operated (2 AAA), though I have no idea how long they would last. It does not have speakers, so you have to provide your own. I plugged in a computer speaker and it worked great. It has volume control, so it won't give the entire household a migraine! It has several demos and styles to 'play along with', also has the capability to record to your smart device. I did not test the foot peddles. The sound is ok, but I believe that's more of a reflection on the quality of my speaker than the drum. So far, 5 stars. However, one of the cymbals randomly plays as you're hitting other spots. Sometimes that same cymbal will clang on several different spots in a row which messes everything up. Being that it's so close to Christmas, and this is the first drum set for a 4 years old, I'm choosing to let the parents decide whether to keep it or return it. The cymbal snafu takes it down to a weak 3 stars.

Must be Interested in Music or the Beat in Music
by EasyToPlease (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this for my 8 yr. old Grandson for his birthday. He LOVED them and is learning to keep a beat with the music. It can get very loud, so I also purchased headphones to go along with playing those Drums! Real Drum Set is next! It's abit small to learn as a real drum set but it's a start if your child is interested in music. He especially loved the different sounds each one made, just like a real drum set.
