Doesn't work!by Ben f. (1 out of 5 stars)

After reading all the positive reviews I decided to go for it! Even read a review about someone buying the refurbished unit and took it to burning man and it worked perfect. Wish that had been the story here! I purchased an amazon factory return unit for 99$ and when I plugged it in and tried to play it I was sadly disappointed. Apparently someone messed this thing up pretty good. It looks brand new but doesn't work like new. When it's turned on the radio feature doesn't work, when pressed the whole units locks up and you have to turn it off. The Bluetooth feature randomnly cuts on and off. The volume control buttons do not work, if you press the up button it goes to max volume 30, when the down button is pressed it goes directly to 00. The only way to control volume is thru Bluetooth feature on your phones volume. When the backlight button is pushed the unit freezes up as well and has to be turned completely off. All in all not impressed at all. If this is an amazon factory return I can see why. Wish mine was as good as everyone else's reviews. Oh yeah none of the presets will work either when the play/pause button is pressed in Bluetooth mode.
Poor Sound fix. READ before returning EcoBoulder!

I almost returned this until I found out the EcoBoulder has a hidden Equalizer w/ 5 Presets: 1)Default (poor sound) 2)Jazz, 3)Rock, 4)Heavy Bass, 5)Heavy Treble.
Just hold Play/Pause button for 1 second & release to try each preset. FYI-the EQ presets only works with Bluetooth. This is perfect with my streaming music apps. SEE PIX.
My favorite is preset is Heavy Treble (clear). I couldn't hear the differences among Default, Jazz, & Rock presets. Maybe noticeable when it's blasting outside.
At first, I thought the poor sound was due to waterproof seals. I guess the manufacture forgot to mention this EQ option on their website and user manuals. Sound issue was also answered in the Q&A section if you have time to search the list.
Playa tested, PLAYA APPROVED!

I purchased a refurb of this speaker to take to Burning Man 2017, and it did NOT disappoint! The speaker is loud, durable, dust resistant and the battery seems to last forever. We would use it around camp and it only needed to be plugged in once a day for a few hours, and we never ran out of juice. I dragged it around the playa using the handle and wheels and got it really REALLY dusty, didn't complain, and made a great seat out on the playa.
Did I mention how LOUD this thing plays? None of us could believe it, but we certainly appreciated it! Plus the fact that it worked the entire 9 days that we were on playa is a testament to its durability. Everything seems to break down out there, but not the EXOGEAR playa proof portable speaker.
SOUND QUALITY/VOLUME WARNING!! MUST READ

STOP!! SOUND QUALITY/VOLUME WARNING.
Long review made short.
I am comparing this to my Bose Sound link Mini which I love and produces an unbelievable amount of bass for its size.
At first I was not impressed with this unit out of the box.
Highs were good.
Mids were good.
Lows.. ok I guess.
After searching for the EQ settings and flipping through the owners/operators Manual I couldn't seem to find any.
However, remembering I had read someone complaining about low bass in and adjusting on the EQ I began to search reviews to find where the reviewer was adjusting.
By pressing and holding the play/pause button for one (1) second while playing music, you can select from 5 different EQ Settings.
I now keep mine unit on "heavy bass".
Now, here is my rating on the sound quality.
Rating 1 to 10. (10 being best).
Highs: 8
Mids:8
Lows: 8
Volume:8
I am satisfied with this speaker quality so far, I have not taken it on any trips or outing yet but will update on durability after beach vacation next month.
Overall, without going to professional sound equipment this unit unit is impressive.
Also be prepared to wait for this unit to arrive.
The unit took 14 days to arrive at my door (4 days longer than they estimated)
Also company did not provide tracking number until I inquired on the first day it was late.
This speaker is one of the best things I have ever purchased.

This speaker is one of the best things I have ever purchased! Just unpacking the unit, it looked and felt like good quality. The sound is amazing and I am extremely happy with this purchase thus far. I am looking forward to taking this on the dock with me this summer so I can actually hear the music when in the water!
NOT waterproof!!!

I'm updating my review on these since I've had issues.
I have a pool and I set them up at one end on either side which makes for a great pool party experience. I usually connect to one from my laptop via Bluetooth, sync the two together, then play music from my Spotify on my laptop and use my phone or set a Kindle on top to manage the playlists within Spotify. These are cool because I can turn them on connect and sync them while still inside, then wheel them out, and put them away or move them with the music still playing. They run several hours at normal volume levels without having to be plugged in to charge, which is cool too.
I used to love these, but have found a couple issues:
1. Not waterproof.
Since the warranty was still good on these (I bought the first one on impulse from Costco), I decided to chuck them in the pool to show my MIL how cool they were. Within a week or two they both stopped working due to issues with the buttons not working and the LCD screen not displaying correctly.
2. Warranty process is not solid.
When the first one went bad, I contacted the company and the person I worked with asked me to email her a video of the issue with my phone along with my my receipt from Costco. She immediately sent out another on the next day and set it up so that I got email updates on the shipping. Service was great!!! When I received it, she even included a shipping label, so all I had to do was put it in the same box the replacement came in and drop it off at UPS to have them ship it free of charge to me. Easy-peasy!!!
No sooner did I get the replacement shipped off and I noticed issues with the second one. This one was a lot more difficult. I was working with a different tech, but I provided a video and used my cell phone and order number from Amazon, but it took a while for him to respond to me. Then when he finally decided that he was going to replace it under warranty, he sent me a link where I had to print off a "label" (not from UPS), then take it to UPS to have them package and ship it for me. This cost me about $115. I originally spent $130 for the unit so that wasn't cool. I did receive a new replacement for the second one after about a week.
I'm not going to put them in the water again.
This is not the awesome EcoBoulder speaker

I bought my first EcoBoulder speaker from Costco. I should have bought two because it is an AWESOME speaker. If I had another, I could pair it for stereo and have perfection. As it is, with one speaker, I can annihilate my neighbor's leaf blower at half volume for 25 hours.
This is not that EcoBoulder speaker.
It costs $80 more than the one I bought at Costco.
It has a shorter retractable handle, cheaper buttons, a stupid plastic door instead of cool nylon pocket, no bottle opener, no cup holders and no EQ.
No EQ is not a deal breaker for me, but the speakers better blast a full and natural sound with lots of ambient air and passive presence. Even small speakers can sound big with the right combination of digital components. This unit DOES NOT do that. Plainly put, the speakers SUCK and there is no passive presence. It has weak terrible fuzzy and undefined crappy sound -- with no way to change anything to suit your music or your ears... and DEAL BREAKER: This speaker has a noticeable buzz that never goes away from the moment you fire it up.
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... like a poorly grounded guitar pedal... even when running on battery power alone. Just awful.
I fire up my old EcoBoulder and the thing is dead silent until you run sound through it and then it BOOMS. Full bass, soaring crisp highs, solid but not muddy mids, lots of air moving, lots of sizzle on cymbals and thump on bass... excellent EQ adjustability, SUPER LOUD but also well-defined sound at all volumes. 50 hour battery life.
THIS ONE? Nope. Sounds like a cardboard box speaker with weak magnets in a plastic housing. The battery was at half-strength after 10 hours. Same volume as my old speaker. And it's heavier than my old one.
Sent it back.
I should have bought two of the Costco model when it was available.
Lesson learned.
It's a very solid portable speaker with a good sound after making a few adjustments to the EQ ...

It's a very solid portable speaker with a good sound after making a few adjustments to the EQ settings on the speaker and on your phone as others have suggested. Without using an external EQ, the sound is flat and dull. I have a small collection of portable speakers, from JBL and Bose down to a waterproof G-Drop. The problem I constantly keep running into with those speakers is that they're too small and not very loud when it comes to tailgating or pretty much anything in open space, the other issue is their battery life.
I was set on picking up the ION Explorer Outback based on it being a 100 watt speaker, long battery life, replaceable battery and a good sound based on other reviews until I found the EcoBoulder. This speaker is the best bang for the money, considering that my Bose Sound Link, Sound Dock II and JBL (that died) were in the same price range and they didn't have half of the features or battery life the EcoBoulder has. It's waterproof so you can take it on a tube float and don't have to worry about someone spilling beer on it, it's loud with a long battery life so you can tailgate with it, the battery is replaceable and it includes a 3 year parts and labor warranty. You just can't beat that.
Great little setup

I work as a professional DJ, so I can speak for my gear and this speaker is LEGIT. Let me preface that I DO NOT use this in an DJ environment, as its solely used on my pontoon boat.
Great little setup, well built and if you're looking for ' bang for your buck ' this is the unit. Excellent battery life, plug and play with my BT device and sounds great! Arrived with a small charge so I could give it a listen right away and I wasn't disappointed. Bass is decent, mids and high's are nice and crisp too.. From Too $hort to Bon Jovi this speaker gets it done.
You will not be disappointed..
