Love this little grill!!!by Eric Higgins (5 out of 5 stars)

Very nice, easy to use, and compact. The only negative I find is that the grate seems to be a little thin. I would like to have a more heavy duty version. Other than that, I absolutely love this little grill. Perfect for apartment living.

Used this for the first time tonight. There is going to be a learning curve involved, but even so, it was a lot of fun! We cooked beef and pork in bottled bulgogi and kalbi sauce. Next time, I will definitely break up the charcoal into smaller pieces and use a little more (I bought the Thaan charcoal, only the charcoal holder was too small to hold more than the two bricks, and that not so well, so the grill was a little lopsidded). Also, I will slice the meat while frozed, or have the butcher slice it so that it is a little thinner. But those issues were operator error, not any problem with the device. The BBQ worked great, and we did use it at out dining room table, we just had the back door and the window in the dining room open for ventilation.

This has become my new favorite grill after first use and I do have a lot of grills: a larger outdoor gas grill, two indoor electric grills, and a portable gas grill. The design is elegant and the build quality is good. I owned charcoal grill before and a constant problem is you have to wait for a quite long time before the charcoals are lighted up and burnt to a suitable temperature. With this grill, you only need one minute or two before cooking. Another feature I like is the dipping pan design which reduces the amount of smoke significantly. A quick tip: putting some water in the dipping pan makes it work even better. It suggests to use lump charcoal and lighting gels which I don't have at hand when trying out, and I would expect the results can be even better with them. The size is perfect for dinner for a family of four. A bucket of charcoal can last a few hours. The fan design is nice and you can notice the difference when adjusting the fan speed. Clean up is like a breeze. The cooking surface is non-stick, and both the cover and the dipping pan can be removed and put into the dishwasher.
A few things to notice: Although it generates much less smoke than a typical charcoal grill, it still burns charcoal and should be used outdoor or under a vent. It does generate some smoke when lights up.
My family loves it and we had the best time cooking at the table

I wanted a new grill but was tired of the huge monstrosities that sit in your backyard and rust away every other year. Plus, I spent a lot of time by myself cooking while everyone else was visiting and enjoying company. So when I read about the Gourmia, I had to try it.
My family loves it and we had the best time cooking at the table, talking, laughing, and we actually ended up eating less and slower while we visited with one another. I do have some advice:
Don't use skewers. The meat will cook, but it will take a lot longer. Use Japanese, or in my case Pok Pok Thaan, charcoal. Burns clean, hot, and you only need two "logs" broken up to fill the charcoal basket. Fire starter gel worked great for lighting.
In my case, what made it special, was we used the grill indoors. My dining room has windows opposite of each other and the cross breeze kept what little smoke it does make well ventilated. Started it outside until it got hot, then brought it inside. I wouldn't do this if you have a more enclosed dining room. But there was almost zero smoke once it got hot.
We cannot wait to use it again. Love the easy cleaning, love the price, and love the quality family time we had!

This grill came ! And I liked it very much. I like that it is small and portable. It's very practical to take on trips. It's way easier to use than buying the disposable ones. The quality is great. And I am very excited to use it every weekend in my trips. I 100% recommend it to everybody.

Concept: 4 out of 5. It's clever to use a fan to drive air flow through charcoal bed, though I wish the fan could
be more powerful, so as to speed up grill lighting up process. My 15 charcoal briquettes bed typically takes 10-15 mins to reach >500F grilling temp, barely beats a starter chimney. Would like to see < 10 min.
Design: 5 out of 5. Very sleek and modern. I also happen to like the green color. Also compact and easy to move around.
Fire box performance: 4 out of 5. With a full load of 15 briquettes. It can stay at >500F grilling temp for 30-45 min. (Note: I personally prefer such high temp for grilling or searing my sous vide meat.). The max temp I ever got in the center of grill surface was 620F, after the whole bed is lit. The temp then goes down due to fuel consumption. Technically, You should be able to add 3-4 charcoal pieces on top after this 45 min "sweet and hot" period to sustain the fire , but in my case I could not get temp back, and stalled around 425F. I guess this due to bottom fuel depletion. You may have better luck than me though.
Top grill plate/grate effectiveness: 3 out 5. My main issues are: 1. too soft. The metal plate is very thin as another reviewer pointed out. It actually warped a bit after extended use under high temp like 5 or 6 grill sessions. 2. coating may not be of good quality. Probably due to my high temp operation preference, my food debris actually stuck on the plate a bit, and during scrubbing, some coating fell off. I partially blame this on me, but still. Anyway, be more careful than me. 3. Large gradient form center to edge. This cuts done useful grill area, as already commented by another reviewer. The gradient can be as high as 150F at places. I don't like the too small solid metal center + so many air openings design. This doesn't retain or conduct heat well. One reviewer used a dog food bowl as cover to trap more heat, very creative! As for me, I modded mine, and switched to a "BBQ Plate Iwatani Cb-p-y3 (Large)" top bought on Amazon. It's a perfect fit and nearly solves all the problems I listed above. For example, with the new grill plate design, my center to edge gradient is only 75F. It is also more durable so far. Only 20 bucks! This is not an paid ad, I don't sell this thing , but just like to mod my toys.
Price: 5 out of 5. At only half the cost of similar products, it very reasonably priced. Also, personally, I think this one looks better than others.
Overall, I can still recommend it, especially for people without a proper back yard but still want charcoal flavor. Again, do not use it indoors! There is plenty smoke during start up period. Safety first, folks! A portable weber can do a better job, but may be slower to set up and you may have to deal with more coals. The main attraction of this model is its form factor. And yes, if you have 20 bucks to spare, try the top grill plate upgrade mod I mentioned, I hope you like it.

Great grill but it's not really smokeless
by Bea (4 out of 5 stars)

Great grill but it's not really smokeless. Granted it's way less smokey than a traditional charcoal grill, I was really hoping there would be less smoke so my neghbors wouldn't notice it. However, I figured out a way to make it not smoke as much (see picture) I took off one star because this should really come with a lid, I don't know why it doesn't. A cast iron was a good stand-in lid. Like others I also noticed that the metal plate was thin, so like someone else suggested I bought the Iwatani plate. The charcoal flavor was subtle but the next day I tasted it more when I was eating my leftovers. I would have liked a stronger charcoal flavor but despite that I'm still happy with the grill.
Overall, I think the design is really clever.
