Kids love playing with this robot! Please ignore older reviews, recent updates have fixed all issuesby SH (5 out of 5 stars)

Recently purchased and set up the Stormtrooper. I was hesitant at first to buy due to early release software issues however after reading more recent reviews about how constant updates have led to improvements I decided it was time to get this for my kids and don't regret it.
Item arrived on time and perfectly packaged. Setup instructions are the first thing you see in the box and an update is required first thing, which I did. Using an ipad Air 2 to connect I had absolutely no problems. It was was actually easier than setting up an Airplay speaker or a Sonos system but the same idea (private network created that you have to connect to in order to sync). Right away we were able to start playing with the robot. I have hardwood flooring so no issues with its ability to walk around, etc.
One item to note is that even though the recommended age is 14 and up, my 6 and 9 year old kids, with a little help getting started, are able to play with this robot without me having to get involved. It actually keeps them busy for hours at a time which to me makes it worth the cost.
I feel confident that further updates will only make this toy better and allow for even more functionalities down the road which will be great to learn with my kids.

Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper Robot With Companion App
I ordered the Stormtrooper Robot as an Easter present for my 10-year-old cousin who's a huge Star Wars fan.
However, the Stormtrooper Robot greatly surpassed my expectations. It's not even really a toy, it's an actual robot!!! Just ten years ago, I had to use my imagination to bring action figures to life and now there's a robot that will patrol your room?
As soon as you open the box, your robot is already assembled and ready for you to install the app. My cousin downloaded the app on an iPad Air, and in a few minutes was already having the robot recognize faces and interrogate "intruders".
It's honestly amazing how much time he spends playing with it. The robot really does keep him occupied for a while, which is great for his parents. I even heard the age-old words "Can I go play with it outside" from him because of this robot.
As far as the technical components go the app is pretty straightforward, we figured out all the basics by skimming the instructions in a few minutes. The interface is also very simple, but I still can't believe there's a walking talking robot that follows simple commands and orders. There are even cool games you can play with the robot on the app as well.
It's possible the robot may have had some issues in the past, but it seems all those problems have been worked out because my cousin has proclaimed the stormtrooper robot the best Easter present ever.
The install needs more information to go smoothly.

After a rough start, Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper robot is working fine. The supplied instruction need a little expansion to enable a sooth implementation. UBTech has added several YouTube videos to smooth the process. I received the unit on a Saturday morning and the it appeared to be Dead On Arrival. The support service is open M-F, so I was on my own. The supplied app has help only after the device is working. Those FAQ's would have been very helpful when I was struggling to understand the basics: 1) the battery must be fully charged before setup 2) the power switch needs to move left to right to turn on the unit 3) Stormtrooper does not start up if the power cord is plugged in. After learning these basics, the app gave sufficient guidance to complete updating the firmware, setting the WiFi address and recognizing my face.
After the excitement of a successful first run, my enthusiasm has waned. Device is difficult to understand and program. It does not walk well. Does not respond to voice requests. It will walk over the table edge. Difficult to change WiFi addresses. Communications with robot is very slow. The controlling app lacks sufficient instructions and function. This product is not ready for the US market.

This is an overpriced piece of garbage. Bought it for my kid and it's worthless. The app is unusable constantly crashing and the robot does nothing. Returning it this week.
Biggest disappointment ever from ubtech

As a 10yrs of engineering in software and electronics, plus the well done engineering education and my on going experience, so far this was the most disappointing experience I have ever had, especially from ubtech.
Legs are not even lifting
Turns are terrible
Extremely limited motion capabilities
Camera is good but image not clear enough
Connection is finicky
Limited pre-set actions and events
Quality of material wasn't the best
My package came used arrived anyway
Left arm limited to move from shoulder only
Wrists don't move
Too loud when in motion
Orders take too long to get pushed into the robot
Very primitive unfortunately
Knees don't bend
Legs don't lift
It basically crawls on standing position
Can go only on flat clean surface
Barely standing while moving, little touch tips it over easily (so not heavy enough for balance)
Short battery life
5ghz not supported, only 2.4ghz connections allowed
C'mon it's 2019, you guys should be able to do better than this.
I wouldn't even pay $50 to this, go buy a meccano, much better and flexible plus the programming and actions and activities in a lot of variety.
Great robot, I love it!

What a joy! I bought this robot 'caz I collect star wars memorabilia. The initial set up of this robot was cumbersome, no paper manual is included whatsoever. Only one piece of paper tells you to download an app but didn't bother to tell you what's the app called. lol. Come on, make a real manual that customers can read. Anyhow, I was able to find the app for the robot by searching "Ubtech" in App Store. After downloading the app, I had to try a few times to activate the robot 'caz it didn't recognize my iPad and I had to restart the app few times. But all the hassle has been paid off once everything is synchronized I like how the camera (on robot's head) moves quickly and it catches pretty clear images too. The arms moves quickly as well but the legs move relatively slow. But come on, for only three hundred bucks, the robot moves, talks, and even has memory to activate patrol and mission. You cannot expect too much. The battery life seems to last so far; I only had to charge it once in my first couple hours messing with it.

I bought this for my 8-year old grandson for Christmas. We set it up and it worked for about an hour and stopped. Then we recharged it and tried to operate it again. It refused to connect to the WiFi, and the setup information had disappeared. We tried the setup again, but the light on the unit kept going to red when the power cord was removed. When the cord was connected, the light on the unit was green. When we shut off the unit, the power light remained on. The storm trooper would not engage again.
This is the most disappointing thing I have ever bought and my grandson is very sad. He was so excited when he opened it and then when it wouldn't work, he was so frustrated, as were the rest of the family. We aren't exactly computer illiterate either. This robot was deployed way before it should have been, probably to make it available for Christmas. We even bought it when it first came out, knowing it would be out of stock if we didn't, which it was shortly afterwards. We should have been so lucky!
The company needs to test their products before shipping them next time so they don't get the host of bad reviews this robot has generated. There were no reviews when we bought it, but next time, we are going to wait to see whether the reviews are good or not before we buy it again. This thing cost over $150 and was the biggest Christmas scam out there. Don't waste your money.
Disappointed and expensive

The app doesn't work. Consistency crashes at splash screen. Downloaded multiple times. I have the latest iOS. I paid $300 for a plastic statue. Without the app it does nothing. Very unhappy and disappointed child. A company should not release a product without thorough testing. No wonder there were limited videos of this junk before release. Hours wasted on CHRISTMAS trying to troubleshoot.
Ruined Christmas...Frustrating and Disappointing

I ordered this back in November for my daughter for Christmas and it barely made it on time to get put under the tree...I almost didn't get it. This is my first time writing a review on here and I use Amazon quit frequently. This product was so bad that I felt I needed to leave a review. Had nothing but problems trying to set it up and still can't get it to work. I've tried setting it up on a Galaxy S8 and can't get past the "create account" screen in the app...set it up on the latest iOS device and can't get it to connect to the wi-fi. E-mailing customer service is terrible because it takes several days to get a response and when I tried to call I was on hold forever. Very frustrating and disappointing to say the least because it was my daughters main gift so it ruined her Christmas. Will definitely be returning for a refund.
