Product Description

Get ready for thrilling action and adventure with Jurassic world! Now you can train your very own realistic, interactive dinosaur with Alpha training blue/gray, based on Velociraptor blue, the fan-favorite character from Jurassic world. Using a remote controller, much like the clicker Owen uses in Jurassic world, you learn how to Train, control and play with your responsive, lifelike Velociraptor. This fully interactive dinosaur has 4 modes of exciting play: training mode, Guard mode, RC mode and total control mode. Training mode teaches you how to control your dinosaur using the accelerometer-based controller that allows blue to mimic movements. Give treats, reward blue by petting her, and move her using responsive motion commands. As you train, you will unlock levels and her behavior improves. Guard mode allows you to set blue in a location and monitor movement. If any “prey” gets within a foot of her motion sensors, The controller will vibrate. You can then issue appropriate commands to warn intruders. Rc mode uses the joystick portion of the controller to move around. Like a vehicle, you can control blue to move forward, backward and side to side. In total control mode, you control blue’s movements, from her eyes and mouth to her head, you decide how she comes to life. With incredibly lifelike movement, Alpha training blue moves, blinks, roars, chomps and responds to your commands for a truly immersive interactive experience.

A Worthy Raptor Training Experience!
by K. LeCrone (5 out of 5 stars)

I can't even begin to tell you the amount of sheer joy this programmed creation has brought me!

First off: the Mattel website listed in the manual returned a 404 for me, so I'm not sure what firmware and other updates may be available in time, so my review is for Blue right out of the box.

She takes around 35 minutes to charge, and you get around 50 minutes of play time out of her when fully charged. The remote control is charged via a port on the side of the remote, connected to an included white USB wire that plus into your computer. The robot itself is charged via an included AC wall adapter that connects to a port under her tail. This port is covered by a panel which requires a small screwdriver (*NOT* included) to open and close, so you'll want to ensure you have one on-hand. Apparently updates are handled by connecting the mini USB port in her under-tail panel to the computer as well. This wire is *extremely* short though, and I would recommend Mattel consider lengthening it, else you will have to get "creative" on attaching your favorite dinosaur to your PC for updates.

To turn her on, you must toggle a switch under the raptor's chest as well as on the controller to sync them. The process is quick and easy, but the training itself is no quick feat! While she has four modes, the Training one is by far my favorite.

While the manual has a lot of instructions, the training process has a lot of nuance and trial and error involved as you work to "tame" Blue. She starts out hostile, and as you get her to do the first rank of tricks, you will want to ensure you "reward" her by feeding her or petting her after each correctly executed comment. Doing so achieves positive reinforcement, and in time, it helps you move up the ranks and level her up so she's more obedient.

Doing a move incorrectly will result in the controller vibrating and displaying red flashing lights on the left hand side of the controller, whereas doing a move correctly will result in a series of vibrations and green flashing lights. When she "levels up," the controller will also buzz rapidly and Blue will make a series of joyous sounds at the occasion: it's truly a sight to behold.

Getting from hostile to tame took me around 6-7 hours of playtime, and it could be a bit frustrating at times because some of the movements need to be quite exaggerated for her to understand what you're trying to get her to do. All-in-all though, she's an absolutely fantastic piece of programming for indoor play, and the sounds, movements, and "personality" programmed into her is just astounding.

I suspect I'll be back to add further updates to this review, but in the meantime: if you've always dreamed of befriending an animatronic velociraptor: this is your moment, and there's no better time to be alive.

Loved the life like movements was challanging until it broke
by mindy reid (2 out of 5 stars)

I loved this toy it worked really well for about a month with regular use. Until I did the recommended update on the computer then it would no longer drive around in RC mode it would only go about a foot and stop. Shortly after that I could hear a moter in the neck making funny noises and nothing would happen. And it makes noise with out the life like movements of the mouth.

Kinda disappointing I am in the process of trying to get a replacement from Matte

Mattel did send me a replacement Blue even before mine arrived back. Happy with the service at Mattel.

I really like this toy and am looking forward to my grandsons face lighting up when he sees it for Christmas.

Let's talk about Blue
by Serena (4 out of 5 stars)

She has been a huge hit in this house. For some weird reason I can't upload my videos but I have some fun ones. I'll start from the beginning:

Straight out of the box she was fun, as the online reviews and instructions said, before I adopted her, she was feral. She did not like my dog or cat which was hysterical to watch a little robot react to a cat and a dog straight out if a box

The training is a bit of a learning curve. I don't expect a child to know what to do. My 5 and 4 year old don't understand her. She is sassy with me and will respond to my mom. Shes been a huge hit during the holidays, especially with Christmas. She and our Elf on the shelf, Roxanne, are a dynamic duo - super funny pair. I haven't done an update, and to be honest I havent spent too much time with her -very busy life. But when I do it's fun. I don't know what itll be like when I hook her up to a computer.

Now here are my problems, and it's a personal preference thing:
-not a fan of the hard surface play only. We can only play with her in the garage and kitchen
-her movements aren't fluid. They are jerky and make noise- maybe a defect of mine?
- I was hoping she'd be a bit bigger
-she isn't as steady as you would think in "complete control " mode. You have to be carefully not to move her too fast.

Anyway, I'm happy with my purchase, but I probably won't buy another one, which was the initial plan for the holiday for the kids. Maybe in a few year they'll come out with another but until then I will wait.

Should be perfect, but
by LovesToSingToo (4 out of 5 stars)

First one I ordered looked like it had been repackaged. Because of that, when her left and right head movements, seemed smaller than videos of her showed; I was worried it was a defect. So I returned her, and ordered a replacement. The new ones left and right head movements still see small/jerky I don't know if she needs more training, my arm movements are incorrect, or she just needs a new neck. But I don't really want to go through another one; if this as good as it get.

The new on also came with badly painted teeth, and a sloppy bit of glue on her jaw. I want to love it, but for $250, I expect a little more perfection.

Still a really neat toy, imperfections aside. I love the life like movements, and sounds. But there is now a feeling that she's not in 100% working order.

Pictures show the first one I got with multiple pieces of tape on the box and a ripped warning paper. These things made it seem suspiciously repackaged, even though it was listed as new. The second is of the dirty teeth, and glue spot is under my thumb.

You don't train Blue, Blue trains you

The purpose of training isn't to train Blue, it's to step you through learning the controls. I'm sorry to say that I've still never gotten around to completing the "training" on this thing. I'm semi-grateful for the complexity but sometimes you just want to turn a thing like this on and use it, not pull out the manual and decipher what the two multi-color LEDs are trying to tell you. Fortunately you can turn on Blue and leave the controller off and still have a good time. Blue rides with me in parades and always seems to get comments like "Is that a puppet? Did he dress a dog/cat up like a dinosaur?" The motions are sincere and unique, making this the most interesting ( not most expensive ) RC toy I've every bought. Would recommend.

DEFINITELY worth the purchase!

I can't say enough about this. We are dinosaur lovers in this house thanks to our 5 year old and his passion. And I am DIEING to give this to him. I actually bout a second for our daughter too because I know she will be so heart broken if I don't get her her own. These are THAT amazing! Both of mine work great! I didn't get to play with them I MEAN, TEST them long enough to train or anything but the movements are INCREDIBLE! It looks SO real. The eyes blink. The sounds are fantastic. I cannot recommend this enough. I want one for myself!!! So I would have to say this is kid AND a adult approved! 😁😄

Super cool!
by Cheryl S (4 out of 5 stars)

This is like the coolest toy ever! My only issue is that the screw where you plug in the charger. The screw is soft, so when you get a youngster trying to screw/unscrew and they can't remember righty tighty, then it tends to strip the screw head. Sadly, there is no way to replace it. And if you return the toy, you lose all of your progress, because they can't transfer the memory chip.

Love the toy though - works fabulous other than that. A bit of a challenge, so sometimes gets left alone until the nerves are strong to handle failure, but the excitement around success is totally cool!

Not worth the price

Not that interesting or engaging after playing with a more than a couple times. Training was also inconsistent...you could sometimes get the remotes to blink green (which supposedly means you did it right) but Blue wouldn't already do the action. So thankful we only paid $150, but still over priced...not sure what I was hoping for but I and my 8 year old son are already bored with it.

Overpriced

Definitely to pricey four what it does but my son is really enjoying it. From a parent's perspective it's way overpriced though.

Cool toy!
by Maryn Otto (4 out of 5 stars)

Oh this is a favorite! Our 9 year old loves it! It is not for younger ages since it needs to be handled with care and is a little complicated to learn to use. Directions could be simplified on how to use and train her but overall a great toy for older kiddos! The movements, sounds and interactions are super "realistic"!
