Dont get me wrong my son loves this but if you want honesty then when you pay good money for something you hope it can kind of do something without breaking to pieces. The door has issues, the track wheels have issues, etc. Just would like Lego's, for the kids sake, to be a bit more industrial, like Mega Blocks, no offense Legos
Don't buy anything from this seller

It wasn't what was advertised, didn't have the right pieces nor did it have any numbers on the bags. Basically it was as far from what was advertised as anything could be and extremely disappointing to get that nonsense when looking forward to the real thing.

Saw the reviews on the brickshow and knew at once that I just had to have it. Same shape as the recent UCS model but the functions are different. This is more playable. Some minifigs that ought to have been in here as per the movie are not provided. But still worth the buy.
Better than it looks.

The Sandcrawler never looked that fun to me but my kids got it for Christmas. It is actually a lot better to play with than it looked. The inside is wider than it seemed and the model comes with a lot of tank tread pieces. Two of the tracks swivel to steer.
This set is awesome!

I loved this set from the moment I saw it in pictures. In my opinion it is one of the most creative and well designed Lego sets I have built. It's like this vehicle was designed from Lego's not the other way around. Play ability is great with all the secret compartments and such. If you don't own this set yet, buy it now! It is definitely going to be one of the most collectible sets ever!

My son loves this Lego set. He is mildly autistic and was able to put this together, mostly by himself, in 2 days. He is still playing with it. Next on the list is the Death Star!:)
My son loves it!

I bought this for my son as a birthday present and it is one of his favorite lego sets he has. I am amazed at how much it is listed for now though.
Too little function.

Although it's fun to look at and gingerly play with, the fact is the mechanicals of the toy are lacking greatly.
First, the steering mechanism is way too delicate. You cannot press down on the vehicle. Why is this important? You need to be able to put the game players on the vehicle and if you press down, very often (three or four times in the last day) the steering mechanism pops out. It was just poorly designed. The mosaic of panels underneath around the steering column and rack-pinion steering mechanism was not play-tested enough and it shows.
Note to LEGO - you need to re-engineer the back-steering mechanism to the point where a kid can actually press down on that portion (from the top of the vehicle) and attach game peices to it.
As designed it's a contstant "Dad, can you fix this?" problem and it need not be that way.
Also, there were at least two peices in the kit that were not to spec and the plastic was deformed so that the track-runnings were cock-eyed. I've been building LEGOs for 30 years and never seen a kit with utter lack of playability and proper design.
I give it 1 star. Overall it looks cool. Play-wise, it's 1-star because a kid simply cannot play with it for 30 minutes before it breaks due to poor support for the rear-steering mechanism. (the strut breaks off into the compartment and fixing it a pain).
The weight should have been distributed over the panels with a long brick array.
If LEGO can custom mold parts for less significant force requirements, they can certainly do better job for the suspension of the vehicle.
Yea, it's a toy and what's the "big deal" right? Well, form and function should be balanaced and in this toy they are not.
Skip this one and get a different StarWars set.
Other nits:
There was no part list with part #s. For 1600+ parts, I expected to see a part list. The probability that some parts in your kit will be defective is higher and thus you need a part list.
No Jawa I know would tolerate this SandCrawler! ;-)
The original lego sandcrawler

The original Lego sandcrawler! It was definitely a much larger undertaking than I was expecting. The build is pretty complicated and annoyingly delicate. My biggest problems were with the overall baseplate which was composed of multiple smaller pieces; it was very prone to coming apart and had to be heavily reinforced. Overall this is a great set with a lot of room for modification and improvement. I also love the aged detail on all the panels. While I'm sure the new version is stronger and more detailed there is something really cool about the original Lego set.
