Gorgeous at a glance, solid performance, slightly underwhelming finish detail...
by Jaz (4 out of 5 stars)
November 28, 2017

Pretty, clicky and functional. Wish the finish detail was just a wee bit better. I got this one (Classic white with copper) along with the regular MK Retro in the white with silver (it wasn't available in "Classic") so I got to compare them side by side. They are both beautiful keyboards with a very comfortable key spread, convenient shortcuts and nice, clicky feel. They both fired up and worked perfectly out of the box with no set up required. The ladies for whom they were purchased both love them and they both get lots of compliments from clients. The only noticeable differences (to me) are the back lighting, leather face cover and metal plaque. The back lighting is gorgeous and does provide noticeable improvement in visibility - if you need a little extra visual boost or type in dim light it's worth the extra hundred bucks. The other features are cool in theory but execution could have been better; the leather is not high quality, surrounds on the keys and feet are coated plastic, not metal, the plaque (which looks so sexy in the pic) was attached at a wonky angle. Oh, one of the key surrounds was floating in the box- I was able to pop it back on but it doesn't feel totally secure so I'll probably glue it. Having said that, the unit is heavy and has nice, tight contact points, the cable is braided, feet adjust smoothly and stay in position, keys have just the right amount of travel (same as with the MK retro). Bottom line, it's nice, really nice, and the back lighting is FAB but if you don't care about that you'll probably be just as happy with the "plain" MK Retro for a lot less $$. I do have a BT version on order straight from AZIO and if it turns out to be better built I'll update this review.

Nice keyboard with 2 limitations: ergonomics not great and each key has a bit of plastic-feeling to
by Lutz E. (3 out of 5 stars)
April 8, 2018

Sleek looking keyboard indeed, very heavy and key illumination is awesome...

BUT, what only 3 stars? Two things...
1) For such a "heavy, solid" constructed keyboard, the keys themselves are plastic and pressing them feels "wobbly" each time. The gold ring around each key is plastic, I kind'a had expected metal. In fact out of the box while unpacking it, one key had come lose during shipping and plopped out of the box. I could stick it back, no problem and it's working, but it's clearly an indication of Azio cutting a corner here.

Why not go all the way, if you construct such a solid (did I mention:heavy and solid) keyboard BODY, why not match it with equally solid constructed keys?
2) Ergonomics: Their much touted "hight adjustment" is way too limited. I mean, you can change the back hight of the keyboard from 1 1/2 ich by only 1/4" to 1 3/4" (top of ESC key, last row). I am debating how to add my own "lift" to tilt the keyboard more to reduce glare. Also, don't underestimate the front of the keyboard is already 1 1/4" high. There is no way to lower it. So, if you plan to type a LOT, this keyboard will not be kind on your wrists and could cause carpal tunnel. You could add a wrist-support thingy of course, but then you'd ruin the splendid look of it.

All told, I am keeping it, it looks gorgeous and the clicking sound/travel of each key harks back to the old days. Just be aware if those limitations above will work for you.

Beautiful design, ugly execution
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

Let me start by saying that I really, really wanted to like this keyboard. It looks sooo cool - and wireless and mechanical "clicky" keys - OMG this has to be the best keyboard ever - or so I thought. Such was my fervor that I paid the additional $8.95 for overnight shipping. When I got home and saw the Amazon box, I felt anticipation that I hadn't felt since my honeymoon. There it was - all retro and clicky and un-wired - and all that remained was the unboxing and then ... typing bliss. Now, kids, the facts of life here are that, if you can't type on a keyboard, it really isn't a keyboard at all. Rather than being solid, tactile and clicky like Cherry keys, the Azio's keys had a kind of "rattly", imprecise feel to them. The deal breaker though was that the spacebar actually STUCK! No matter what I tried, it was clear that the problem was that the long plastic stems attaching the spacebar to the switches were binding and so no amount of patience or finagling was going to fix it. This was a simple case of a $219.00 keyboard engineered like a $20.00 keyboard. So, after an appropriate moment of silent contemplation, I admitted to myself that it was not to be, and returned it. I now own a Logitech G613, a perfectly functional plastic, wireless, mechanical-keyed keyboard. I've learned not to seek emotional fulfillment in my hardware anymore. I've moved on.

The Best Keyboard. Period.
by Graduates Review (5 out of 5 stars)

After using this keyboard for a few weeks, and initially re-adjusting my fingers to the retro round keys, this is easily the best keyboard I have ever used without question. After learning to type on the IBM Selectric, and then transitioning through all the PC keyboards to the Apple Macbook Pro and iMac keyboards over the years, its a incredible thing to have a real quality typewriters keyboard finally. Instantly connects via bluetooth to the Apple laptop and wakes the computer when a key is pressed. Impressive quality and build, all details seem to be worked out. Comes with all the keys for the Mac to pop on in a zip lock baggie. Just make sure you have an image of an Apple Keyboard so you don't put the wrong key in the wrong spot. To pair the keyboard all you need to do is hold down the FN key located at the bottom right of the keyboard and also hold down the minus sign a the top of the number pad. If you want the absolute best with out a doubt this is the keyboard. Im a writer and I have here 6 different keyboards, as I have been always searching for a 'better' keyboard, not including all the keyboards I bought and then returned. This keyboard is so far out of the league as far as current options for keyboards go its just ridiculous.

The keyboard is backlit and has the retro-click when typing. The keyboard must weight about 4lbs, and looks like it is built to last. Large rubber feet that grip the desk very well keep the keyboard from moving. Cant recommend this keyboard enough.

I bought this keyboard on the 4th of March 2018. It showed up today, the 6th of March. The presentation box is very nice. Makes you feel that you bought a classy high end item. Well, you do. This keyboard is beautiful in every way. It is what Apple should be selling, not that ridiculously thin chiclet wannabe keyboard. This thing has heft. It is solid as a rock. The fit and finish are outstanding. The keys are nice and "clicky." The sound is very much a 1980's 1990's mechanical keyboard sound. A tad bit more silent then a real mechcanical Typewriter will sound. Why everyone wanted the crapy keyboards of the past decade or two eludes me. Cool looking does not make a good keyboard necessarily. Azio however did just that. It's perfect in every way. I have an Apple Macintosh. I needed to get the more expensive version of this keyboard to have full Macintosh compatibility. Too bad they don't make a Mac version that is only wired too. I would recommend this keyboard to any one. By the way, I wrote this of my own accord. Azio did not ask for, or give me a thing. It's just that good.

Copper Clad

I just got the Artisan board and I love it. I was trained in touch-typing almost 60 years ago and used my Grandpa's old Royal typewriter through High School and College. This is the best key board I've typed on in 25 years! It has a righteous feel and my speed has really picked up in the one day I've been using this copper clad beast. Besides being great for typing the keyboard is nicely crafted and a real joy to behold. "Shiney" if you know what I mean.

Easy to use, When it works
by Copper By Design (4 out of 5 stars)
April 2, 2018

I certainly get plenty of compliments for this cool looking keyboard. It seems very well made and has a nice feel. I love the illuminated keys, even if they are not RGB. It is noticeably heavier than any other keyboard I have used or even seen before. The battery life is impressive, but since the bluetooth is more or less useless that is a moot point. It is able to wire directly into the PC, so I am still able to use it effectively. Wireless transmission will abruptly stop while typing with no rhyme or reason, and then resume after a spell, which is very frustrating. Even wired in it will do some funky things once in a while, like switch the screen to Black & White, so I then had to research how to get it back to color. I understand this may be user error, but I never had that issue with any other keyboard before, and this has happened several times now when I cannot see how I could have hit that odd combo of keys to do this.

Fantastic keyboard! Love the look and feel.
by D. Ross (5 out of 5 stars)
April 4, 2018

Yes, it's possibly the most expensive keyboard one could find, however the craftsmanship is above any beyond anything I've ever typed on. I returned an HP Omen 'gamer' keyboard and use this, that's how much I like the feel of the keys. From my photos, you'll see I picked up the leather backed onyx and chrome version.

While this is a 'clicky' keyboard, it isn't annoyingly loud. There is a bit of a learning curve if you're not used to typing on rounded keys ;)

(Edit, died after 3 months of use) Incredible retro steampunk keyboard
by DMSSSI (1 out of 5 stars)
July 7, 2018

I will leave my other review as it still applies but I have to give a 1 star over 5 now as mine died and no longer works, was a lot of money to spend for something that didnt last more than 3 months with basic use. If it can be replaced or fixed I will bring it back to a 4 or 5 star.

Bit pricey but compared to a rgb gaming keyboard this things a beast and who doesnt love the retro steampunk style, best keyboard I've ever had, love the multiple settings, and functions, would recommend this to anyone who wants a very well built keyboard with style!
