Fighting to be the best Fast(Quick) Wireless Charger available. Ya gotta charge em all
by Spencer Smith (5 out of 5 stars)
March 7, 2018

Wow, I have dealt with countless wireless chargers but besides defying physics this one ACTUALLY does everything I want and expect.

PACKAGING: Lets start with the packaging. Like usual, Anker delivers quality similar to a company named after a fruit. Everything comes gently wrapped in protective film and packed like a jigsaw puzzle for 30 year olds. There wasn't any annoying sticky adhesive or tough to tear plastic in sight and most of the excess can be thrown into the paper recycling.

WHATS INSIDE: I have quite a few other Random Company batteries, chargers etc. and there is usually a very cheap cable and very cheap charger included with the "main product". In this case Anker includes a 1M/3ft Powerline cable that comes from their premium line. This isn't the normal small AWG cable and rightfully so as it needs to deliver 12 volts to the charger. The charger included is a 1 port Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger branded as their PowerPort+1 series charger. This will output 5V/9V/12V at various amps shown in my screenshot. This will quick charge any Android phone on the market using the Qualcomm Quick Charge protocol. The 3rd item in the box is the actual fast charger which I will go into next.

WIRELESS CHARGING: As a small warning, if you intend to ever use another power brick with this wireless charger, it will ONLY accept a 12V input. It is NOT backwards compatible to slow charge with a 5V input, and will not quick charge with a 9V input. You can input 12V only, and it will output normal wireless charging or fast wireless charging depending on the phone(With a 12V input). To reiterate, with a 12V input it will output 5V and 12V. Only 12V input will work. With an input voltage below 12V, the LED on the charging stand will gently flash showing an incompatibility. You won't hurt anything with ANY configuration. The worst thing that could happen, with an incompatible power brick, is that your phone simply won't charge.

WIRELESS CHARGING CHARGE RATES AND HEAT: Efficiency is the one MAJOR flaw(limitation due to physics...?) of wireless charging. Being 50-60% efficient, all the extra energy has to be released as heat. This is the main reason this charger has a fan.(Will go into that later). Running a game at full brightness on my S8+ starting at 60% ended up stopping at 70%. The phone regulates the charging speed against heat and dropped the charger to 3.5 watt output. The phone while on and in game, neither charged nor discharged. Currently ZERO fast charger on the market will charge a phone while the phone is on and active with the processor working hard. If you need to utilize fast charging for a LONG period, you must keep the screen off and the phone inactive. My PERSONAL opinion is that wireless charging should really only be used at night while you are sleeping. Heat hurts batteries and during fast charging with the phone on, the temps approach 96 degrees Fahrenheit. This is NOT dangerous but could potentially wear that battery a tiny bit faster than normal. When I had my phone set to only "standard" wireless charge the charger was outputting 6.6 watts, when I switched to "fast" wireless charging, the output went to 8.3 watts. A modest increase but don't expect miracles.Overall this charger outperforms the charging function of OEM chargers and stays much cooler allowing the fast charge rate for longer. This is the literal best performance of any wireless charger I've ever seen. If you want the MAXIMUM charge rate possible for your phone, you must use a fast charging WIRED connection.

FAN: The small squirrel cage fan(It really is called that :) ) exists in the base. Unless you put your ear 1-3 inches (7-9 cm) from the base, it is completely silent. You will notice the slit in the top of the charger that acts as the air inlets. The thing I love about this design is that they took into account phone heat. Not only does the charging circuit get hot but the phone does too. By putting an inlet at the top and an outlet on the bottom rear, this stand is effectively cooling the entire device AND the charging circuitry. Even in the worst case scenario the phone never even came close to overheating.

If you are looking for a upright wireless charger this is literally the one. Quality is amazing, performance is amazing, heat control is amazing. Wireless charging has a way to come, but this charger is on the bleeding edge of performance for current tech. 7/7 with rice.

P.S. While sitting on the stand the S8+'s finger print sensor was fully accessible and not blocked.

not working with iPhone XS Max
by gaedfly (4 out of 5 stars)
September 23, 2018

This is a really nice charger, sturdy, pretty. It holds and charges my iPhone X perfectly. My new iPhone XS Max charges fine until fully charged but then constantly cycles the charge on and off, attended by that annoying little beep. It seems to work better in landscape mode but in general it's unreliable with the XS Max. I'm not sure this is the charger's fault. I have a service ticket with Apple, they tell me it may be an issue with the phone. I wanted to post the review for other XS Max owners.

So noisy and the fan runs all night, even at 100%...
by Super Mum (2 out of 5 stars)
July 26, 2018

The upsides:
- An AC adaptor is included
- Mine came with a 6-7 foot long cord(!!!) so it reaches my nightstand easily
- It charged my iPhone 8+ quickly
- It easily charges through my Otterbox Commuter case in both horizontal and vertical positions.

The downside:
- I, like most of America, charge my phone on my nightstand. Even four feet from my head, the fan can easily be heard. Yes, it is a white noise but it is a fairly loud white noise in a silent bedroom. It woke me up numerous times last night, including 30 minutes before my alarm went off this morning. Even at 100% charge, the fan was running constantly and at full speed.

Sadly, I don't think I can keep this charger as I need my sleep!

Flashing blue light + Anker Warranty
by A. Moffett (5 out of 5 stars)
September 24, 2018

So it looks like I got about 6 months of use out of this device. I plugged it in and set it on my nightstand.

About a week ago I put my phone on it for the night and went to bed. I woke up late because my alarm didn't go off. I look over to see my phone is dead and wasn't receiving a charge. The light on the base unit is flashing blue. I power cycled the device multiple times and tried different usb cords. Nothing worked. The unit just continues to flash blue and not charge my device.
1 Star: Disappointing

Update: Within a few hours of me writing this review Anker reached out to me and asked me if I would try some basic troubleshooting (restart phone). They said post the troubleshooting if it didn't fix the issue they would replace it.

Now I reboot my phone regulary (every couple days) but I figured I would do it again after I plugged in the charger. The charging unit had been unplugged sitting in a box since it started acting up. Once I got home from work I went and got the charger and plugged it in. Well what do you know, for whatever reason I got a solid blue light and my phone charges no problem. I rebooted my phone and check again, yup still works.

So I'm changing my review from 1 star to 5 stars. I liked the product to begin with, but what I liked even more is that Anker was ready to stand by there product. As an informed consumer I vote with my dollar, so if you lose my confidence I move on to a different product. Thanks Anker for being ready to replace it. Lucky for us both we didn't have to go through that process.

Surprisingly fast and efficient Wireless charger
by Venu N (5 out of 5 stars)

Positively surprised how fast it charges our iPhone Xs. Anker does build quality products ( In a way Apple should be thanked for having taught all product manufacturers to care about quality)

However Anker's decision to include only a short power cable is a mistake considering the power adapter "profile" is too big for it to be practical to plug it behind the night stand and ironically needs a longer power cord to connect to a plug point further away.

Update: After following up with anker customer service, they assured me they will pass the feedback to their product teams so that future shipments have a longer cable.

Great device - short cable - see my update!
by David A Saltzman (5 out of 5 stars)

I really like these (bought two of them) and only dropped one star because the cables are very, very short and really limit the placement of the chargers. Other than that, they are the usual Anker high quality we've come to expect. Really wish there were 6' cables though.

UPDATE 3/19/18: Immediately after I posted this review I contacted Anker just to suggest that they consider including longer cables. I received an AMAZINGLY prompt reply with an apology for the hassle and an offer to ship me two 6-foot white (matching) cables at no charge. Changing my review to 5 stars. Great product and great customer service. Kudos, Anker!

No complaints!

Works as it should and I am definitely happy with my purchase. There is an audible noise from the fan, but you quickly learn to get used to the sound and won't notice it after awhile. The wireless charger is beautifully designed and it feels like a quality item that will last forever. I have a metal plate strategically placed and I am still able to utilize both orientations without issue.

Minor update: a few weeks ago the charger decided to stop working. I tried various connections to troubleshoot where the problem is coming from. (Swapped extension cords, used a different usb cable, reseeded cables, tried different outlets, used just the cable with a different wall adapter, etc.) Nothing seemed to work so I unplugged everything and contacted Anker. This is my first time ever having issues with any of their products and they handled it quickly and efficiently. I was given the option to exchange the item with a provided return label. The following morning I decided to try the wireless charger again in the same extension cord and with the same setup. Magically it worked. I informered Anker and they still allowed me to exchange the item in fear of the charger makfunctioning again in the future. I will continue supporting all their products. Phenomenal.

Great Customer Service, Buy Anker with Confidence
by Jake Flash (5 out of 5 stars)

The Powerwave 7.5 is the premier iPhone X wireless charger--optimized for the 7.5W iPhone charge speed and has been able to get my iPhone Xs Max charged significantly faster than a competitor's low-speed charger. (I've never timed it, but the difference is obvious.)

The design is sleek on a desk and works effectively with the phone in both a horizontal and vertical position. The best part of the design is that it holds the phone at the perfect angle for FaceID when notifications arrive or for FaceTime--while keeping you charged.

The fan noise exists if you listen for it, but is not particularly noticeable in normal operation.

Unfortunately, after about two weeks, my charger suddenly stopped working. I tried different power outlets and different USB cables in case the point of failure was easily remedied. However, had no success reviving my unit. I reached out to Anker customer support and they responded quickly, walking me through troubleshooting--which unfortunately did not work and they offered to send me a new unit no questions asked. However, just as suddenly as the device stopped working, it started functioning again two days later. I consider myself relatively technologically savvy, but cannot explain the sudden failure and revival of the unit. I turned down their offer of a new device...for now...as long as this one continues to work.

TLDR: Anker is a company that stands behind their products. I have several of their products and have had success with all of them. Buy with confidence.

*Issue resolved* An unfortunate experience from a company I trusted.

*UPDATE*

Anker has come through and fixed the issue. They promptly sent out a replacement unit and have been amazing about staying up to date with how the product is functioning. Faith restored and I'll continue to support this brand.
*UPDATE*

This may be the only bad experience I've ever had with Anker.

I bought this because I've been using anker products for a very long time. However, this Qi charger has been the worst tech purchases to date. I will preface this by saying that the design and use are beautiful. I loved having this out on my coffee table (while it lasted). It's really easy to use and is a nice addition to any living space.

The Qi charger itself stopped working after about a month but before the Qi charger failed, it killed 3 of my micro usb cables (these cables are cheap so I didn't sweat it) but the Qi charger itself, was $60+. I used all the cables it came with and followed all the usage recommendations. It's a shame this happened because it's left a sour taste in my mouth for Anker products.

Does Not Turbo Power Charge - can't get to work with Droid
by Mz Lynn (1 out of 5 stars)
September 5, 2018

Rec'd item, worked for about 5 minutes quit, they replaced the item. Got the second item and it does not charge from the cradle only if directly plugged in. It says wireless charging and then I see the bolt indicator. The blue circle on charger flashes trying to charge and doesn't.

Using on Droid Turbo 2 with Qi charging - have two other chargers that work well, Samsung Fast Charger and TYLT. Tried with and out phone case and it didn't work either way. - blue light keeps flashing but never connects to hold to start charging. A Qi charger will not do turbo charge as of yet - not strong enough -- maybe in the future.
