Best in class, but still needs improvementby Andrew Walker (4 out of 5 stars)

I considered giving this vacuum five stars because it really is a joy to use, but there were a few things that held me back. I addressed some positive's and negative's of each of these points below.
1. Battery:
A. (Negative battery comments) It's incredibly frustrating that Dyson isn't listening to their customers here. We've been asking for removable dual batteries for years now. At this point I'm wondering if there are some design/engineering concerns about wear on the vacuum if they run continuously for too long. Dyson needs to go removable batteries if they truly want these units to replace corded vacuum's.
B. (Positive battery comments) We were able to mostly clean our entire 1,600 square foot house on one battery charge. This all depends on what you're doing. Most people are saying the low setting is worthless, but my wife and I both disagree. On our hardwood floors using the soft roller cleaner head the low setting picks up everything we needed it to. If we got to a stubborn area we would hit it quickly on medium. In our carpeted bedrooms and on our rugs we would use the carpet head and switch between low and medium depending on the area/thickness of carpet. We vacuumed a lot of hardwood, some tile, three carpeted bedrooms, the couch, and still had some battery to spare. I put the brush tool on and went to cleaning baseboards for a while. I finished probably half of our baseboards before the battery died on me. The battery life is all dependent on the settings. YOU DO NOT NEED THE HIGH SETTING FOR EVERYTHING. In fact we barely used the high setting at all, and we were getting everything very clean. We filled up the canister multiple times so I know it was cleaning well. My advice is to use the low setting on hard surfaces, and switch to medium temporarily for a tough spot, instead of using medium as a default. This of course is dependent on how long you need the vacuum for. Medium may be needed for some carpet, but it was overkill for our lower carpeted bedrooms and for our rugs. Also, keep in mind when considering your cleaning time that you should be vacuuming much faster in general not lugging a cord around.
2. Push Button:
As you probably know it's not possible to lock the vacuum on. The button must be pushed and held to run the vacuum. I actually don't mind it like I thought I would, because I feel like it makes me conserve a lot of battery life. The button is a super light push for me, and ergonomically it doesn't bother me. However, my wife has smaller hands and she said it did bother her after a while, and caused some discomfort. I would like to see a button that you can either have unlocked or locked into position. IF THEY WOULD GIVE US DUAL BATTERIES, THEN RUN TIME WOULD BE LESS OF A CONCERN, AND THE NON-LOCKING PUSH BUTTON WOULD NO LONGER BE AS MUCH OF A NECESSITY.
3. Price:
IT'S A FREAKING VACUUM. I'm sorry, but $700 is just absolutely stupid ridiculous. I'm still slightly disappointed in myself for spending that kind of money on it, but dang it really is nice. I love the vacuum, but for this price it should have every tiny issue alleviated. If Dyson does not go dual battery I will refuse to ever buy one of their products again. I went for it this time because it just seems to perform so much better than the Shark, but if they continue to disregard their customers concerns, then I will leave based on principle. You are not Apple, so stop trying to be Apple. Listen to your customers.
Money well spent for a really clean house

I have a Rainbow Vacuum. For those of you familiar with the Rainbow, you know how powerful it is and that there are few, if any, that can pick up as much as it does. It's a beast. I also have an Australian Shepherd who, I would swear, shoots fur out of her body like a porcupine would shoot quills at a predator. I moved from a fully carpeted house to one where only the bedrooms are carpeted and the rest is laminate. The Rainbow is a very heavy vacuum and I'm 74 years old and weigh about 100 lbs. I decided that if I could find a good stick vacuum to use most of the time and not have to take out the Rainbow except for the bedrooms, my life would be much easier. My usual vacuum test is to take a new vacuum, spend a bunch of time using it in a small area and then make a single pass with the Rainbow to see if anything was left behind. 99% of the time, a LOT was left behind. After researching stick vacuums, and trying out Dyson's main competitor's newest offering and returning it immediately, I decided that it had to be a Dyson or none at all. And, after researching Dyson's offerings, I decided that their newest was the most powerful and that it might hold up to my Rainbow test. Surprisingly, it actually did. Not only did it make short work out of the laminate flooring, but on its most powerful setting, it actually left the Rainbow with nothing to pick up. I was stunned. That had never happened before. I got the Absolute model because people were not happy that Dyson had eliminated their "Fluffy" head from one of the models and the Absolute included it and the deeper cleaning bristle model with it. I also read that the Absolute was more powerful than the Animal, even for animal hair. Before I got the stick vacuum, I thought I could keep the hard floor clean with something like the Swiffer Wet Jet. You really can't. I walk around barefooted and as much as I would clean with the Swiffer, it never felt like it does after vacuuming it with the Dyson. And it's so fast. I can vacuum the house in just a few minutes. The low profile lets me get under furniture and find the places that Ginger's hair finds to collect. The house is SO much cleaner. I have allergies and I can feel the difference. I would have liked to have paid less for a vacuum (she says after paying $2500 for the Rainbow), but I really feel that the money I spent for the V10 over the V8 and for the Absolute model was money well spent.
Much better than the V6
by DHH (5 out of 5 stars)

This review is based on comparing my old Dyson V6 Animal to the Cyclone V10 Absolute. The V10, even though bigger than the V6, is lighter. Also, the attachments are MUCH easier to switch out and the the bin empties so much easier and cleaner (no more having to use a knife to scrape out the pet hair stuck up inside the bin.) As far as cleaning goes, the V10 is much better. I first used my old V6 on max power to clean an area rug, then went back over it with the V10 on low power. The V10 bin was half full of dog hair that the V6 hadn't picked up. The V10 was also far superior in getting dog hair off of my furniture using the mini motorized tool (again, on low,) and the the soft roller cleaning head even picked up cat litter without throwing it around the the roller brush does. One final note: I was happy to see that the V10's docking station uses the same screw holes as the V6 docking station, saving me time and effort in patching and painting my wall! All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase. Edit: I just vacuumed my 1200 square foot condo, the furniture, and the stairs on one charge with 2 bars left. I have hard surface floors with some throw rugs and running the V10 on low power picked up EVERYTHING. In fact, if I used even the medium power, it was too much suction for the throw rugs. (This is an unpaid for endorsement, unlike a lot of 5 star reviews you read.)
Disappointed

So I spent over $700 on something I cannot clean my condo with. The battery lasts for a bedroom and a half when I use it on "mid" power. It does not hold charge. So if you want to use it you have to put "charge the vacuum the day prior" on the schedule. The maintenance is over the top. Air ways and filters get clogged after half a dozen of uses. The trash does not slide out like in the commercial. You have to put your hand in the container to pull it out, otherwise the airways get clogged. It is light, no question about it. But it is so light that it just skims on the top of the carpet. If you try to push on it, it feels like you will brake it, because the heavy part is on the top, and the light on the bottom. The container is very small and just gives you the illusion that it collects a lots of trash. Such a disappointment.
This Dyson vacuum is a wonderful piece of technological kit

This Dyson vacuum is a wonderful piece of technological kit... with a flaw that would not allow me to give it 5 stars. As a lot of people have stated, it in no way will give 60 minutes at full power setting. But wait... this is not the flaw... the flaw is that the batteries are sealed into the head and you can not buy spare batteries to keep on trucking! Now I don't know if this is a tactic (like Apple uses) to get you to purchase the second version of the product that addresses the problem. Again like Apple (I am a user) I will pay whatever it takes to give me what (I think) I want. So that means: "I can't wait for the next version that will let me buy extra batteries". My suggestion to people thinking of buying this machine, buy it knowing that you will be using it one room at a time... charging (the head - up-to three hours+) before moving on to the next room... sigh!
Quality/Usability: 5 stars.
Battery Run Time: 2.5 stars.
Poor battery life

Dyson need to stop advertising that battery last for up to 60 minutes. On full power battery last less than 10 minutes on medium it barely last 30 minutes. How can you clean the whole house in less than 30 minutes. It cleans great wish they have better battery power. After changing two of them from Dyson service center I gave up.
Battery died after a few months of light use. Dyson customer service is terrible x 2

UPDATE: The madness continues. After I got the second replacement battery, the little plastic piece that keeps the bin from sliding off broke off. Another call to Dyson which resulted in them sending a replacement bin which did not fix the problem. Dyson then said that I have to send the vacuum in for repair. Their process involves going to UPS store with a special number. The idea is that UPS will pack and return to Dyson for a repair. Of course the number did not work at the UPS store. Yet another call to Dyson resulted in the magic number being "reset". UPS was able to accept the return.
To recap, in 6 weeks Dyson has sent the wrong battery, and a new bin which did not fix the problem. At least 7 phone calls and my expensive vacuum has now left the building on its way to be repaired.
How do I rate with zero stars?
I changed my review from two stars to one star because of Dyson's poor customer service. They made a mistake. That's human but they compounded the mistake by sending me to the back of the line. My vacuum has now been broken for 4 weeks. I should have just sent the whole thing back.
Up until this experience, I was a Dyson supporter. I have 2 V5 and 2 V10 hand held vacuums. s
The battery just up and died...and by died, I mean it just quit. Nothing happens when you pull the trigger. I called Dyson waited on hold for 45 mins. and they said I needed a new battery. After three weeks the battery came. (Wrong battery).
I called back and told them I received wrong battery. The representative said to send the whole unit back. "Just take to the UPS store and ask them to send to Dyson". No address. No RMA number.
I finally asked them to just send the correct battery. They said they would. Time will tell if this will work.
For now, I can no longer recommend Dyson.
Summary:
1). Battery failed too early. You have to take unit apart to replace battery.
2). Customer service is not staffed appropriately. Long wait times and incorrect information when you finally talk to someone.
3). Customer service is not trained properly. They sent wrong battery. They told me wrong return process. They did not seem terribly interested in helping.
Review for Absolute version. Hint a week later it sucked.

Great vacuum. It cleaned my two bedroom, two bathroom apartment on a single charge at medium power with one bar to spare. Had no trouble picking up anything and never had to go over twice on any hard or soft surface. Edit one week later. After two uses the vacuum stops having suction even though the battery indicator says it has power, and once in a while I get a red light that stands for a problem with the vacuum. I'm sending it back and getting refunded with amazon, as I couldn't get ahold of Dyson through chat, phone, or email on their work hours. For $700 this was a horrible experience and I will be staying away from Dyson in the future whenever possible.
Expensive piece of crap. I like that it's light weight but the battery only last ...

I like that it's light weight but the battery only last 15 minutes and you have to hold the trigger in. Clogs constantly, doesn't pick up very well. Expensive piece of crap
this vacuum is perfect for everyday cleaning

Have had a Dyson V10 Absolute for a month now. Waited till I used it a bit before reviewing. As stated numerous times, it isn't worth running on high unless absolutely necessary and if necessary prepare for a long wait.
Aside from that, this vacuum is perfect for everyday cleaning. I have 2 large dogs and four cats, so I am required to vacuum daily. I have a Kirby which is the most amazing vacuum I have ever owned and which has been in use for well over ten years and is as great today as the day I got it. However it weighs a ton, and is not convenient for every day use. This vacuum absolutely is. Works on every surface in my home which varies from wood floors to tile to carpet. Works on furniture and on numerous pet beds. It is much more maneuverable than my Kirby which means instead of moving furniture to vacuum it actually reaches the toughest spots.
As others have stated, what would make this vacuum perfect is replaceable batteries If it had that, my Kirby would be retired.
