LEARNING CURVE AHEADby Sharon Campbell (4 out of 5 stars)

So, after a bit of a learning curve and "almost" deciding to return the lock on the last day possible, I've finally decided to write my review.............keep reading.....
I purchased this because of the number of online purchases I make and wanting the security of knowing my packages were secure if I was away from home at the time of delivery. I was naturally VERY excited when I received my lock, my container, and secured the container to one of the pillars in front of my home (see pictures). Unfortunately, the first half dozen or so deliveries did not go as planned and the packages were left unsecured on my porch. This was due to a myriad of factors: 1. Delivery people not familiar with the operation of the lock, who attempted to operate the lock and just gave up and decided to leave the package and move on to their next stop (per porch video camera). 2. Delivery people who did not even pay attention to the container/lock on the porch and just left the package and moved on (per porch video camera). 3. Weak wifi signal strength from the rear of my home (router location) to the front of my home (lock location) that cause the lock to lose connection and not open when scanning the tracking bar code. 4. My own concerns over a message received in the app that connection was lost, which caused me to add/delete/add/delete the lock and app, and therefore believe the lock was not functioning as intended.
After several one on one message exchanges on Facebook and a phone call, with the owner/staff of Boxlock (THANK YOU) I was reassured that my lock is in fact functioning correctly (they can tell on their server), and was given some suggestions to address the other situations.
The long and the short of it all is this: 1. Change your address for any orders you place, to show on the second line - "PLEASE LEAVE PKG IN BOXLOCK SECURED CONTAINED ON PORCH". This alerts the delivery person to LOOK for the container/lock. 2. Get a friend to cut some vinyl letters for your lock (as shown in the picture) saying PRESS HERE and SCAN TRACKING NUMBER HERE to instruct the delivery person how to operate the lock. 3. Make sure you have good wifi signal strength, and get a wifi extender, if necessary (I needed to do this anyway to have great strength at the other end of my home).
An added advantage for me, with a home-based business, is that I can text a temporary bar code to my clients, so they can drop off and pick up items even if I am not at home. BAZINGA!!!!! This was just the cherry on top for me!!!!
Most recently, my packages are now being successfully placed in the container by the delivery people, and all appears to be on track. I will say that the staff/owner of Boxlock is AWESOME and was very reassuring that the lock was functioning properly and "talking me off the ledge" the night before (I'm talking 9:00 pm on a Friday night) I was going to return it, because of the "connection lost" message in the app (not the wifi connection but rather something to do with my bluetooth)......thank you, again!!
The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is the delivery people learning curve issues. It's just going to take time for the lock to become more commonly used, and delivery people to be more familiar with it. (Each one that I spoke to and educated on the use were amazed, and said they had not seen anything like it before). But those learning issues can be addressed with the delivery address modification and the instruction lettering on the lock.
Great in theory, horrible in practice!

Let's keep it short and sweet:
Good:
1.) ability to open when a package is scanned (if/when it works and delivery person uses)
Bad:
1.) Spotty Wi-Fi connection (and I have a great setup)
2.) Glitchy app
3.) DELIVERY PEOPLE WILL NOT USE IT - I literally created a waterproof step-by-step list of instructions to put on lockable delivery box right under mailbox. ONE delivery person attempted to use it (and scanned it three times and gave up). I know this, as I have a video camera on my front porch. USPS, UPS, and FedEx all looked at it, read my directions, and set the package on my porch. I even called UPS to see if I could request if the delivery drivers would use it and they said, "it's at the discretion of the delivery person."
Here's an idea -- get Amazon behind your product as they have muscle, have them muscle the delivery services into using it (marketing/training/etc), and THEN market your product.
Until delivery people will use it, and until it works when they actually attempt to, this thing is useless.
Our packages are now safe -- and it couldn't be easier!

My husband and I signed on to using Boxlock during a trial run. We have been concerned about package theft for a long time especially after our neighborhood has had more than a few issues. We have found Boxlock to be a convenient, easy solution to what was quickly becoming a major problem, given that we both work full-time and had no other convenient way to retrieve a delivered package. What we love about BoxLock is that our package is exactly where we want it to be (our doorstep) but is 10 times more secure than it was in the past. Because BoxLock is a newer product our package delivery person was initially unfamiliar but as they became used to the system, it was easy -- ultimately our FedEx delivery person said that he wished everyone used Boxlock so that he could not be accused of not properly delivery his packages! Bottom line - we highly recommend this product and can't wait until it really takes off so that everyone can see how simply and easy it is to protect their delivered items!
This product works great! If only the delivery drivers actually used it

This product works great! If only the delivery drivers actually used it. I have a note with instructions on what to do. They just leave the package next to the bin. Hopefully this will catch on and they will use it
so far it's unusable

Although all the hype about this lock being able to let couriers deliver packages securely, in the last 2 days (since 8/12/18) 2 UPS deliverymen and one fedex man have been unable to unlock the Boxlock by scanning the barcode on the package.
I contacted UPS and they know nothing about this product or it's features.
Even Amazon deliverymen bypass it and leave packages on my front porch with just a picture proving that they tossed the package out onto my porch but not that it was delivered in a secure fashion.
I am holding out hope that this product will deliver, but I believe it's release as a secure way to receive packages was somewhat premature
Simple to use and setup. Update. Returned the device.

This thing works great. The carriers have all loved it! It does require a good WiFi signal, but it sure does give you a lot of piece of mind. I like the feature of being able to share a barcode if you're on vacation. I highly recommend this product.
Updated review 9/11/18.
There are a couple of issues with the product. I managed to show the carriers how to use the device. None of them could get it to work, nor could I. After several exchanges with customer support, I learned if the carrier scans the package as delivered in the vehicle, it hits the system as delivered, so it will not unlock the device. In another exchange with customer service I was told (and I have the emails) a delay was built in.
Customer service is fast and friendly. The device and concept are great.
However I have returned the device since only one package from the post office was delivered correctly. Because the Carriers won't use the device, or if they do, it won't work because the system thinks it's been delivered because the package was delivered.
Help stop your packages from sprouting legs and walking away!

Participated in the pilot program. We live on a busy street with plenty of foot traffic, and have had the occasional package disappear. BoxLock affords peace of mind, especially when you can't make sure you're home when deliveries arrive. Delivery drivers (USPS, UPS, FedEx) are getting on board as they become accustomed to using the product. I've been told the lock springs open on the production model, which will help on loud streets to let deliverer know the lock is open. Had to recharge the battery for the first time this week, easy peasy. Bonus feature is that you can also use BoxLock to leave a package or key for a friend, send them a code, and they can retrieve it. BoxLock accommodates different storage boxes (we tried the bench and smaller box), and is rather unobtrusive even in its bright yellow state(we may have gone overboard with the stickers). I recommend this product: easy to use, long battery life, peace of mind, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Firstly, it is incredibly difficult to get a delivery driver to even attempt to use the box lock. I have numerous signs that say what to do and 1 in 20 delivery drivers attempt to use the lock. FWIW they also don't obey any of our other instructions like to ring our doorbell when delivering or place larger packages behind our fence. Amazon's own delivery drivers are the worst about this. Most leave the package right next to the box that has the box lock and walk away.
Secondarily, even when you are luck enough to get a delivery driver who attempts to use the lock it never works. I've had almost 50 deliveries since I set up my lock and it worked exactly once. The latest firmware update seems to have bricked the barcode scanner completely. I can't even get the lock to open by scanning the barcode that is presented in their app. It only unlocks when I manually do it over Bluetooth.
Thirdly, the email based system for authorizing barcodes to open the lock, dubbed "Effortless Tracking", doesn't work either. The first time I set it up it triggered a bunch of security flags on my email account. I had to reset my password and re-log in to all of my devices that were using that login. I set it up a second time and I don't get security warnings, but it also doesn't import any of my packages.
This thing is a huge waste of time and money. I wish I gave up on it sooner so I could have received a refund.
and it performs wonderfully in that capacity

I purchased Boxlock after a package in my mailbox was opened and its contents taken and have had no such issues since. The lock itself is robust and user friendly. I think the design of the lock itself is very attractive. The company offers well-built boxes in several shades, including one that fits my porch very well. I have found Boxlock staff to be competent and responsive.
It should be noted that this is only a theft *deterrent*. Anyone determined enough could make off with the whole box or cut through its outside. The purpose of this product seems geared towards making the act of theft take longer, and it performs wonderfully in that capacity.
10/10 would buy again/recommend to a friend.

There was difficulty setting this up as my e-mail is not a typical e-mail address, once that was resolved and with a trip to the post office to confirm my address for USPS deliveries it rolled right along.
I have demonstrated to my regular and not so regular UPS and Fedex Drivers how to use this device, they are willing participants and using it. All of them are very happy to see an alternative to leaving things on the front step and open to opportunists that are engaged in porch piracy.
The Fedex driver was the most excited and has shared the device with others to the point where a few have showed up just to see how it works.
Demonstrating to the drivers is more than half the battle to get them to use it, I also found that setting my box further elevated off the ground, allowing the drivers not to have to lean over so much to scan, has helped and was appreciated.
My only holdout has been the USPS mail delivery fellow, not surprised, he is a problem child all by himself without adding the box to the equation. He is actually the reason that I decided to purchase this item, so he will be using it in the near future, much to his surprise.
I have had no issues with it staying hooked to the WIFI or Bluetooth. There are a few user issues that I would advise changing, i.e. making the scanning surface larger (currently the package has to be held a sizable distance from the lock to scan the tracking bar code), allowing the app to auto refresh versus killing the app in the settings section of the phone, finding a way to shield the scanner from direct sunlight (facing into the sun results in some difficulty scanning), and adding the lettering with "Press Here" (arrow) and "Scan Here" (arrow) to the lock (so helpfully provided by another poster with photos on these recommendations).
All in all I am quite pleased with this device and look forward to seeing it advance and become more mainstream in its use, it will prevent a lot of package thefts going forward.
