This was really frustrating! I bought this for my dad for Christmas since he always wanted to do an escape room, but since I live far away and he travels a lot, our family schedules don't really line up well enough to coordinate a real one. He had some surgery before the holidays, so I thought this would be a fun "at home" option. We weren't major Macgyver fans, but I don't think you need to be for this. However, the game has very bad instructions and it is NOT intuitive- and the hints suck. Some of the "codes" have letters turned the wrong way so they don't look like anything, but you're just supposed to know that? (and not something like a backwards K. It's an H turned sideways so it looked like an I and the rest of the letters run normally). Anyway, that's annoying but fine. We figured it out. But also very annoying is that this is a game that can only be played ONCE as you have to destroy pieces (like cutting up a map), and that's ....a bit dumb to me. I get not wanting to play it again with the same group, but you could give it to a friend or something. Anyway, we cut up the map and follow all the rules/instructions, and it won't accept our answer. There's no "show solution" so we are "stuck" on the level now. (Warning: Some of them don't have the solution clue so if you're stuck, you're stuck). Some of the instructions do not make sense and/or they're missing key parts (open this envelope, etc), and there is a lot of typos overall. One puzzle's instructions made zero sense/wasn't actually asking anything.
It's a cute idea that could have been a lot of fun, but the execution was really bad and frustrating. I really wanted it to be a lot better than it was. We didn't even bother finishing the final level after getting so mad about the map situation (that we did right!).
Just plain annoying.

While some of the puzzles are clever, the majority are just odd. It's sometimes difficult to tell if you are missing an answer because you haven't figured it out or you did figure it out and it was designed poorly.
One of the worse escape room at home games

The puzzles are very linear and there is only one to solve at a time before you unlock the next one. So if you play with a group, most people will be bored. Puzzles are also on the super-easy side, though get a little tougher as you get to the later scenarios.

I've done several escape rooms and played several escape room games, and this is the worst. Easy, linear puzzles have very little creativity and variety. Might be good for older children?

The box is very scratched and has sticky goop on it. I'm sure the game is fun, but disappointed since it's supposed to be a gift. It looks used from the outside.

Gave this to my daughter and her family (kids 9 and 11). The whole family had a great time figuring out the clues to solve the mystery. Was a wonderful way for all ages to share precious time.
Great game with a great theme

I didn't know what a escape room game was, so I wanted to try it. The fact that this game is about my favorite character decided me to buy it.
Why would you buy this?

This is by far the worst escape room game my group has ever played. If you've never played an at home escape room, DO NOT PLAY THIS ONE FIRST. Or ever. This game has lousy instructions, almost forcing you to use hints, which are also not good and the web site you use with this game is complete garbage. We have played every at home escape room game that has been released in the US and this one lacks any good components of an escape room game. We forced ourselves to play through all 5 of the sections in the game and were left wondering how this game ever sold. Most of the puzzles didn't make sense. I feel like someone made this game as a joke on anyone who ever bought it. And we fell for it. Can I give this negative stars? Ok I'll give 1 star for the sexy pictures of MacGuyver. If we were back in the 80's they would be hanging on my wall.

My girlfriend and I love escape rooms. We've done several as a couples activity. Figuring out a room full of puzzles is lots of fun. Inevitably, some puzzles stymie us, which is why good hint systems are essential. And this is where it felt like the MacGyver escape room box failed us. The website has a "Hint" button in the upper-left corner, but the hints are often useless-even after reading them, the puzzle descriptions make no sense. Sometimes they make no sense even after we've clicked through all of the hints to get the answer.
Still, we trudged determinedly through all 5 missions. Unfortunately, they get less rewarding as they go on. By the final mission, it feels like the challenges weren't play-tested at all. Overall, I can't recommend the experience, despite the low price and the corny charm of the theme.
