Don't Believe The Reviews! AMAZING PHONE!!!
by Roger (5 out of 5 stars)
October 31, 2018

Don't believe youtuber reviews on this phone! The fact you're here looking at this phone tells me you aren't an average phone user! This camera is actually amazing! Battery life is freaking amazing aswell! Front facing stereo dolby atmos speakers are just incredible! One little downside is the colors aren't as sharp like a pixel or a samsung as they use OLED screens but you'll only really notice it if you're holding one of them side by side with the razer phone 2.

Honestly the colors are still sharp and still packs a punch!

the screen is plenty bright, trust me it's at a very good level of brightness yet again not to compare with lets say a pixel 3 or samsung 9 or any OLED screen for the matter, but the brightness it achieves is more then perfect.

I'm coming from a Samsung galaxy s7 and this thing smokes that phone by miles in almost every aspect!

Reviewers state this camera is trash! Absolutely not true, Download Gcam PORT, off the XDA website

Its google camera ported over and usable on other andriod devices so its not exclusive to the nexus and pixel only

I've downloaded the latest version MGC_6.1.009_MI8_V1a.apk BSG, 2018-10-19 and my camera went from useless to taking pictures as good as my girlfriends pixel 3! It turns out, We have the hardware! but we lack the software!

In the end the camera is fantastic! just need to download google cam port app for our phones.
120% screen is fantastic! I cannot go back to 60Hz after being spoiled with this silky smooth and responsive screen. now my phone matches my gaming experience off my desktop!

Battery life is amazing, Tips, Don't leave your RGB logo on HIGH, Keep it on medium/notifications enabled What that will do is only turn on the razer logo on the back of the phone when the screen is on reducing battery consumption, let's all be real now, you don't need RGB, in your pocket or purse Lol!

People say 120Hz drains your battery quicker, honestly not 100% true, I've used this phone for a a few days now and haven't noticed any difference in battery compared to all the phones I've owned in the past, The only difference is this phone actually lasts way longer due to the 4,000 MAH battery it has. I game on it, Use gps, talk on it. Use it for work all day. and I still get home with enough juice to carry me through another half a day. But also keep in mind I might be doing like 15-30 min gaming sessions through the day so Im not gaming on it super hardcore as can game will drain the battery no matter what phone your on, But I can tell you it will drain alot slower then other phones.

Packs a punch! Great price! Only few little issues that you need to know about

Had to contact verizon to get my phone to work about 1 hour call, Tip! Ask for tier 2 support and tell them to convert your phone to a cdma less profile, it will fix the problem with receiving text messages (This only applies for verzion folks)

As of 10-31-2018 Amazon has yet any cases for this phone and razer is selling cases for this phone at a pretty hefty price I'm not willing to pay lol, 3rd party companies need to hurry their butts and make some more options for us :P.

Gets a little hot when gaming but no where close to uncomfortable, I have not seen any drop in performance or lag in any title I've played, so far so good will update this if anything changes!

I Don't review often, Just wanted to give my opinion and views on this little beast of a phone. Take care.

The first 24 hours
by Joe Scott (3 out of 5 stars)

I am coming from a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, so for anyone with a premium phone, here are the differences I've noticed so far.

First off, it really is a great phone for an almost pure Android experience. I love the fact that there is minimal bloat pre-installed, and what is belongs to Razer or are the defaults like YouTube, etc. The screen is fast and text is super clear. The speakers are amazing, I've only needed to turn them up to half to clearly enjoy music.

A few of the downfalls - First, it took almost an hour with Verizon to get the phone to work at 100%. Just inserting your sim card will get you phone calls and outgoing text messages, but receiving texts will not work until you register your device. You will have to contact them for this to work right now. You need what's called a CDMA-less profile on your account.

Second, the phone now comes with wireless charging, but don't be fooled. If you have a charger already, there is a very good chance it won't work if it's a stand up model, as the coil in the phone are in a weird place (closer to the bottom instead of center). This means that for your charger to work, it will need to lay it down on the pad and you have to move it around to find that sweet spot, that is not very big. Your other options is to by the $99 Chroma charger that Razer sells, except, it's out of stock. I have three wireless chargers, and so far none of them work unless I lay the phone flat on it (which only one lays flat).

Third, there are no cases for this phone unless you buy from Razer directly. At this moment, there are three available, the premium $50 Kevlar case and the bright green and black World case for $25. If you order just the case, it will cost you an additional $10 for shipping, since they are not made locally in the US. At the time I ordered the case, only the Kevlar was available, so I spent $60 for a thin piece of plastic, however, it is much better than no case, as the glass back makes the phone slide around easily. I have no doubt that the Kevlar case will provide little to no protection if dropped.
Fourth, if you are coming from a premium phone like the Samsung Galaxy series, this phone is huge. It's going to take some getting used to holding this phone. The fingerprint reader is in a great spot, but I do find my self hitting it often when picking up the phone. Both the reader and the volume keys are centered on both sides, so if you have a car stand that closes on the sides, it's going to mess with your volume buttons easily.

Fifth, the camera kinda sucks, even with it's improvements. The software isn't much better. You are limited to the old 4:3 photo size, while the majority of Android phones give you size options for 16:9, etc. The reason for the size is the same reason Apple doesn't offer different ones, it's the best quality for the camera sensor. However, most other flagship phones have been able to include software to fix the quality issue when using a wider setting. Your only option at the moment is to find a different camera app from the Play store to use.

Sixth, Not all apps are fully compatible yet. I am a big fan of the texting app Textra, as it has many features I use. However, it currently is unable to receive photos, and I have been forced to use the standard texting app for now. This is not the end of the world, however, it's worth noting that not everything may work out of the box.

Lastly, the Chroma notification on the back is partial useless. It was added to please the fans that have other Razer devices and love the glow. As it's on the back of the phone, you won't see it most of the time. Only when you have your phone face down. I have yet to figure out how to set up notifications for it, but I haven't had a large amount of time to play with that feature.

If you play a lot of games, this is most definitely the phone for you. However, if you use your phone for most other things, you might want to stick with what you already know. I find my self missing my Note 8 and the features like the Always On Display, or a volume icon in the pull down.

I'll be giving the phone a few more days before I decide if it's worth keeping or returning. It's a great concept, but it still needs work before it can compete with the high prices phones that are already out.

Perfect after a couple tweaks
by Caleb (5 out of 5 stars)

People are complaining about Verizon. I have AT&T, so I can't speak to their issues. Swap an AT&T SIM into it, no issues whatsoever.

Other people are complaining about the camera. The stock camera app is okay. Not great. Not bad. If you want the best experience, I agree with the review before mine that recommended the Google Pixel port from XDA. You can search for it. Author name is cstark27, and you can search for his Gcam ports on celsoazevedo(dot)com, the BSG ports for the MI8. The problem isn't the hardware, but the software. Once you're using a good Gcam port, the pics are amazing.

Someone else complained about a slight popping sound from the speakers. Go to sound settings, advanced, turn off touch sounds. There ya go. I'm sure it'll get updated, but I never use touch sounds anyway, so, like, okay...

All of the above takes five minutes. Once you do that, you have an incredible media machine with zero flaws.

I know the design isn't for everyone. I like the sharper corners and speaker bezels. They offer a lot of options for holding the phone, but I understand it can be uncomfortable for people with smaller hands.

The copper vapor chamber makes the phone warm, but that means it's working. The heat has to go somewhere. I've seen a YouTube review and a tech site complain about that, but if you check CPU temps, you see the processor is surprisingly cool. That's the idea, as a "gaming" phone. Other phones just aren't dissapating that heat and end up throttling, which the Razer Phone 2 doesn't do.

The 120hz screen will ruin all other phones for you.

The speakers will ruin all other phones for you.

I will also die on the 16:9 aspect ratio hill. My laptop is 16:9, my TV is 16:9, and my phone is 16:9. I don't want black bars on videos, either on the sides or top and bottom. 18+:9 phones and 3:2 laptops are dumb.

I had the first Razer Phone. The only issues with that phone were lack of water proofing, bad vibration motor, and screen dimness, none of which were really deal breakers for me, but I would have liked those things to not have been issues. The Razer Phone 2 fixes all of these issues.

Battery life, screen brightness, water resistance, speakers, refresh rate, the hefty premium industrial design, and nearly stock Android experience are all great. I've had the phone for almost two weeks now and have had no issues other than the five minutes of tweaks mentioned above.

Could not be happier with this phone. It fixes all OG Razer Phone problems, and the RGB on the back is always a conversation starter. 10/10, please support this company and their 16:9 ways.

Edit: forgot to mention battery life. Battery life is fine if you tweak a bit. I saw PC Mag complain about battery life. "We only got 4 hours! We even turned down the refresh rate!" Well, you shouldn't have done that. For Max battery, drop the resolution down to 1080p and turn on adaptive brightness. You can leave the brightness to 100% if adaptive brightness is on, you won't notice really. You probably won't notice the drop to 1080p resolution either.

I haven't found the RGB light to be too draining, maybe 10% savings when it's turned off. Refresh rate is variable, so unless you're gaming at 120hz non-stop, you should be fine.

Worst I've seen so far is around 4.5 hours of screen-on time at full brightness without adaptive brightness enabled, full RGB brightness on the back, while playing YouTube videos in split-screen with Facebook and Reddit, around 50% volume. That was non-stop with that usage.

More typical screen-on time is about 5.5 hours with 100% adaptive brightness and res to 1080p. Try harder by turning RGB off and lowering brightness to 60% and you can push it to 7 hours. Zero video or gaming with lowest brightness may get you to 8.5+ hours, but at that point why even own a super nice phone?

Mostly there!

I'll skip the boring stuff
* The phone itself is pretty fast
* The screen is responsive and smooth
* The sound is unexpectedly badass... basically, the phone is roughly as advertised.

The Meh:
* Some out-of-the-box stuff with the software experience is a bit odd; I've consulted with people related to the apps I'm using, and they might try to get in contact with Razer themselves
* I want a Pure AOSP skin but there's none :(
* Where's me pie?

Now for the bad.
* If you actually want a headphone jack, this ain't it
* If your hands are anywhere near "not large", think twice
* Nit the First: I believe this is actually a software-caused issue: a static "pop" of some sort is produced by the lower speaker at "regular" intervals. I'll be reporting this one to Razer and I'll try to help diagnose what's going on wit this one. -1 star
* Nit the Second: a victim of the Wireless Charging idiocy, the back assembly suffers from possible assembly issues as "pushing" it a bit harder than "normal" results in the phone sort of "squeaking" a bit. Whether this is only happening on the First Batch or on subsequent batches remains to be seen. -1 star

Mostly, this phone seems to be worth my time and interest. I have yet to decide whether it's worth the money though.

DISCLAIMER: Whether this device the right fit *for you and your usage* is likely to be evaluated against a different set of requirements, as I'm an oddball: kinda gamer, huge nerd, working in mobile tech.

Don't believe the Youtube reviews of this phone! It's AWESOME
by Eric Alexander Hurt (5 out of 5 stars)
February 14, 2019

I was not 100% sure if I was going to order this phone or not, but I had been thinking about it for quite some time. I watched dozens of reviews and read article after article and couldn't seem to finally just make the jump and go for it. I was always put off by the reviews of the camera being awful and the battery life, etc.

Let me just say, the stock camera app razer supplied with this phone IS awful, however the hardware is not. Go and download the Google Camera Apk as soon as you get this phone, it will take full advantage of the great hardware this phone offers. The stock software for this phones camera is absolute trash, but don't knock the phone itself for this. It's a software issue, not a hardware issue. I've included a few pictures that I had taken with the phone to showcase the quality it offers.

Camera aside, this phone is smooth as butter, in more ways than one. The 120 hz screen is an absolutely joy to work with and I catch myself randomly just sliding my menus up and down and zoning out at how fluid it feels to operate. The screen brightness is good enough, it doesn't get super bright if you're out during a sunny day but it's bright enough to easily see what you're doing.

This is a powerful device and i've been playing several games recently and the 120hz has made a huge difference in quality. I'm absolutely in love with this phone and I don't regret this purchase what so ever.

One thing i'd advise, if you can, order a case for this phone as soon as you order the phone so you can have it as soon as possible. I have not dropped this phone or done anything to it that could be considered harmful but after about 2 weeks of casual, soft use, there is small little scratches in the glass back and a couple tiny scratches on the front. I'm not sure what could have caused these, but they more than likely would have been easily avoidable with a case from the get go. The scratches aren't that noticeable, but with a premium piece of hardware like this, I want to try and keep it in pristine condition and the tiny little scratches really just irk me when I see them.

Battery life is okay, I can charge my phone to 100% before I leave for work in the morning and use my phone browsing social media, reddit, camera, and a game here and there for a few minutes at a time and the phone will be at about 60% by the end of my work day. That's with maybe 4/5 hours of screen time. Sometimes, I do notice certain applications really drain the battery and I was surprised by how fast it would go down, but overall it's a minor issue that is only related to certain apps and my overall experience with this phone does not reflect those small instances of inconvenience.

I'd say that this phone is 100% worth the money. Especially now that it is marked down to $650. Pick it up while you can and I guarantee you won't be disappointed whats so ever.

Not built well.
by Daniel Weiser (2 out of 5 stars)
October 31, 2018

It's a great phone indside. The outside has some build quality issues. Theres a bach of phones with improperly secured back glass because of poor adhesive. You can find more on the subreddit. When complained about to razer they became extremely defensive and unhelpful even though many people have complained about this issue. Stay tuned.

Absolute disappoint
by Timothy Reyes (1 out of 5 stars)
November 26, 2018

After almost a month of use I have decided to return what I believe is a defective device. My biggest issue with this phone is how I constantly lose service. And I mean CONSTANTLY. All throughout the day I could be messaging people, on social media, or in a call and bam.... Service gone. And my friends or family around me who have AT&T aren't having any issues that I'm having so I know it's the phone. Second are the speakers. They constantly pop. Even on the lowest setting. I've turned off the Dolby app and even tried to do a custom setting. But nope. Constantly are slightly popping even on the lowest sound setting. And then there is the microphone when recording video for Snapchat or just a clip. The microphone causes the sound so fade in and out, pop really bad, and sound horrible. I requested a refund yesterday and this really sucks because I love razer and own a full razer setup. Laptop, keybord, mousemat, mouse, headset, backpack and even clothes! I'm like how those dang apple fans are for apple. I hoped when I noticed these issues the first day of receiving the item that maybe it was just a software issue and it would be updated. But after getting stranded 2 days ago and not having service because of this stupid phone for 4 freaking hours, I decided enough is enough and I will not allow myself to settle for this device that can't even work properly. This isn't Amazon's fault and I've looked up on the internet if any other people have had this issue and I can't seem to find anything tbh, so that's why I suspect it's defective.

Full Review from a Samsung to Razer Convert
by Burgh Guy (5 out of 5 stars)
October 27, 2018

I pre-ordered directly from Razer and received it today. First impression, is I'm impressed it's great phone.

Native android 8.0 out of the box and was immediately upgradable to 8.1 after initial set up. The set up was quick and easy. There's no bloatware which is awesome. Just a few lightweight add-ons from razer that actually improve the device functionality and cusomization. Cortex with Game Booster being the main one.

The touch screen is super responsive. By far the best experience I have had with typing, scrolling, and clicking while browsing web pages.

Fingerprint ID and Google Assistant were both easy to set up and work as expected.

Music is great on this phone. The speakers are incredible for a phone. The Dolby Atmos Equalizer for full customization of how you like your sounds is a nice touch.

The Video streaming quality is by far the best I've ever seen. Images are sharp, movements are fluid. I found myself questioning if this was a SmartPhone or a miniature SmartTV when testing Netflix, and youtube videos out.

Gaming is also awesome as promised on this phone, but you might need to optimize for each individual game per the developers specs using the native Cortex app. Not all games are optimized for 1440 resolution and 120 hz refresh rates but the ones that are perform amazing on this device. After some minor tweaking the 5 games I tested all performed significanlty better than on my old Galaxy 6.

Camera is better than expected but I wasn't expecting much and it's not a make or break feature for me anyways, I don't take many pictures. - UPDATE 10/28 - The camera is actually amazing, the problem is the stock camera app. I downloaded a third party camera app and pictures/video are now easily on par with the Pixel2/3. Upgrading overall rating to 5 stars.

The phone is heavier than I'm used too but I actually like that so far. the sharp corners are also a little odd but not bad once you get used to them.

I have yet to get cell carrier service on it but I have confirmed it will work with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile along with several pre-paid providers. I'm weighing my options before deciding on a carrier. The wifi works great, I haven't experienced any kind of lag or speed issues after a full day's worth of activity.

The only real criticism I have of this phone:
1. I'm not a fan of the USB type C port, and would have preferred micro USB 2.0/3.0 so all my old cables and chargers would still work. That said, type C is looking like it's the way of the future so can't fault Razer for using it.
2. Availability of accessories is limited. Razer themseleves are out of stick on 2 of the four available cases for this phone, as well as the wireless charger. There are no third party accessories available yet that I can find. I really would like a great third party case like an otterbox to protect my investment and the OEM wireless charger which looks super cool but neither exist at the moment. This I absolutely blame Razer for and it is the main reason for deducting a whole star. -UPDATE 10/28 - Starting to see generic 3rd party cases available right here on Amazon, encouraging.

If Razer accessories become more available and I can find some cheap USB-C charging cables for around the house and in the car I'll raise my rating to 5 stars as long as there are no unforseen issues. So far I'm very happy with my purchase of this phone.

Don't Pay attention to the Camera Reviews AT ALL.
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
November 22, 2018

I was like everyone else looking at this phone searching for reviews reading subreddit and trying to figure out what this phone is all about. I liked everything about it but the one issue that always came up with reviewers is the camera so i learned there is a Gcam app that works flawlessly with the Razer phone 2 so i went ahead and bought the phone from Razers website.

The Phone is premium quality, first of all, it is a little heavy but feels solid and durable, it performs like a champ and everything I throw at whether it's a game or apps it works FAST and looks GOOD especially the games just wow!

So let's talk about the camera, as of yesterday Latest BSG Google Camera port includes Night Sight!!!!! That's right you get the same quality as a pixel 2/3 with the features while running a 10x better phone! If that's not enough to sell you the phone then I don't know what would. The Razer case that I have in the picture is top quality and fits the phone just right.

buy it if you want something different that raises the bar when it comes to mobile technology.

GREAT phone, HORRIBLE experience.
by Michael Powell (1 out of 5 stars)
March 12, 2019

So I'm scrolling through my feed on Instagram when I come across an ad for this phone reduced by $400! Amazing deal! Who would resist this, if only I had remembered to read the fine print? It would be $400 less if I had ordered it from Amazon; the first mistake, then set it up with Verizon; second mistake. I waited for about 3 days for my phone or so. Great delivery time as usual by Amazon. I unbox it and even post about it, I was so excited to get my first expensive phone. But that's where the fun ends. They're almost no bad parts about this phone mentioned in this review so if you're reading for that scroll to the very bottom. After going through my timeline again, on my new phone I discover the deal that was supposed to end 2 days after I ordered it continued for another week, no big deal, other people get the deal that's nice, it was then I noticed Razer offered an "exclusive" Razer phone stand if I ordered it then, I felt bad about that but didn't care much because it was only a phone stand, same price just another item. Fast forward 2-3 weeks and I've had this phone and gotten adjusted to it on a daily basis. Though I haven't had it turned on by Verizon because if I wanted the other part of the deal I'd have to stay with them for at least 6 months. What a rip-off, they offer a $250 prepaid master card for $55 worth of service for 6 months which is $330. Good deal for those wanting to STAY on their line, BAD for people who wanted only the phone, aka me. After my headache of a day with this deal and etc, I just accept it and don't really care about getting a retailed phone at $799 for $650. Amazing phone, amazing quality, and amazing feel once again. After logging onto Razer I discover not only the phones deal but it at a HUGE discount of $300. $300 is literally double $150, this is really frustrating to see, so I called them to let them know I bought their phone within a 30 day period of a MAJOR price change. They ultimately and literally tell me "we're sorry we can't help you because you ordered it from Amazon". SO why is it YOUR ad, telling US to buy YOUR phone on another site if you can't do ANYTHING about it? It's all just a huge scam, and Amazon isn't any innocent in this either. I contacted them about it and just as everyone they will say this too. They. Do. Not. Do. Price. Changes. At all. Read this review how you want and feel how you want but I have been a customer of Amazon for literally 3 years and the door was shut in my face hard with this. I use Amazon DAILY and never have I felt so scammed. $150 I could have used on the huge debt this phone sank me. This will be my second to last major purchase on Amazon. I've learned my lesson on big companies now.

Actual phone review: The phone itself is beautiful, though my hand is still adjusting to such a large screen, which is perfect for watching videos or gaming. Razer did great and I only have a few details that aren't major, the theme of it doesn't seem changeable, I would prefer something besides Green/Black all the time but none the less it looks nice. The network seems bugged on this as when I try to log onto certain apps it likes to crash or not work at all. Never had this problem in the past 3 phones I had at all, didn't expect that out of a multi-hundred dollar phone. I have tried signing into my router and checking its settings and absolutely nothing is telling my phone it can't access certain apps/software. I would buy the Razer phone 3 if it ever exists ... If the previous experience went a little better. I will not be purchasing any other Razer hardware again. Fair luck to others with similar experience to this. (3/13/19)
