IT HOLDS GAS!! NEW UPDATES!by A55A551N 11B3P (4 out of 5 stars)

This is less expensive than buying it from the official site. Didn't find any defects with the can or nozzle. Have used it a few times without issue, though learning how to use the safety nozzle is a bit tricky the first time. Would be nice if the nozzle didn't stick out and up from the sides of the can; something I learned while designing a custom holder for it on my motorcycle. The three gallon capacity is right up to the bottom of the sloped side of the nozzle and can actually hold a bit more if you really try, but I don't think I would. Wall thickness is, well, very thick. Overall, a top-notch piece of kit.
UPDATE 1: After a year of use, it still works just great! I personally love the eco-spout, as trying to fill your bike in the dark on the side of the road is bad enough without worrying about spilling gas everywhere. Lots of people don't seem to know how to use the eco-spout, so here's how: as you're tightening the cap, you'll want to constantly adjust the spout so that it's in the position you want when you pour. IF the spout resists your turning it, then STOP- you WILL BREAK IT! (I know this first-hand) Then twist the locking ring, place on the tank, and pour.
UPDATE 2: I bought a 1-gallon sized RotoPax to fit in my sidecase since I don't need to bring the larger 3-gallon one with me. I was really disappointed when I saw it came with a generic spout instead of the eco version.

BE ADVISED:
***Leak test this gas pack before you fill it with gas***
1) Fill it with water and let it sit for a while to make sure it doesn't leak. Be sure to dump the water and let it dry before you fill with gas.
2) Have a secondary gas can with you when you do fill it with gas so when it starts leaking you have something to put the gas into.
3) When you do leak test it, take the time to figure out how the spout works before you fill it with stinky, expensive gas that could get all over your hands, pants and shoes. (Ask me how I know this...)
I will purchase a replacement from Amazon in hopes that it is liquid tight.
Buy a Jerry can and Jerry can mount and be done. You'll spend 3 times the money on Rotopax and be mo

The good:
1. looks cool
2. pretty rugged
The bad;
1. expensive (depending on your budget)
2. no self venting ability. Any change in temperature or altitude and you'll have to crack it open to vent it at lest once a day. You'll loose a bit of gas and it's one more thing to have to remember to do on the trail.
3. The eco-spout is absolute garbage. Extremely frustrating to use. Just buy the self venting spout (another $12 on top of price of container)
4. various size containers, pack mounts and extension mounts don't work together. With the exception of the 2 gallon can connecting to another 2 gallon can, none of the other sizes interlock. You'll also need a special extension mount for each size can. Example: have a 4 gallon can, a 3 gallon can and a 1 gallon can? You can secure the 4 and 3 with a 3 gallon extension. But your 1 gallon requires a special extension mount to secure to the 4 gallon. Confused? Basically, it's more money for individual extension mounts that only work for certain size containers.
Also, if you want to keep your containers from being stolen with a locking mount, you can't use it with any extensions to stack more than one container together. The top container just spins free despite having a locking mechanism in place due to the poor design of the extension mount.
In a nutshell, they over thought and over complicated what should have been a simplified set of containers and mounting options so that none of their products play well with each other.

Leaks Leaks Leaks!!! Worst money every spent. You can't return it once you had gasoline in it! Company wouldn't even send us another cap to try when we realized we couldn't return it. Do not buy!
Poor design. Leaks after year and a half.

I bought two of the 3 gallon containers a year and half ago and BOTH of them started leaking in the center section where the attachment hole is located (within 2 months of each other). I always make sure not to over-tighten the pack mount. It must be a poor design/engineering. Of course the warranty is only for one year. The attachment system is a great design and offers a lot of flexibility for mounting options, but unfortunately the containers leak so I cannot recommend this product.
RotopaX Gas Pack

I was looking for a dependable container for spare fuel, and the RotopaX system is what I determined looked best for my situation. The price is a bit high compared to other containers, but they they don't offer the option to mount easily to the spare tire and I didn't want fuel in the cab. Also the other containers I looked at were not even close to the same quality. I have not had the tank on the trail yet, but on my first look, the gas container is well made and sturdy. I was concerned that the 3 gal container would be too big and bulky sitting off my my spare, but that is not the case at all. It's fairly slim and easy to manage. I'm impressed with the container and would recommend it to friends.
They LEAK

Terrible. Layed flat on the roof of my van and leaked down the windshield and screwed up the gasket. Tightened with pliers and still leaks. Have tried repeatedly to contact customer service through phone & email and they refuse to respond. Worst. Service. Ever.
Got a second one and it leaked down the rain gutter and blistered the paint, which cost me $250 deductable on my car insurance. Terrible....
I love that the housing is super thick plastic

Needs some slight modification in design.
I love that the housing is super thick plastic, not like 99% of most typical red gas cans where the plastic is as thin as a gallon of milk. I bought this to store my lawnmower gas because the other "typical" jug I have is junk. Came with a nice spout. The only issue I have concerns the handles - look carefully and you'll see that there are three handles. The two on the top and bottom are too small to get you finger in, therefore making these two handle useless to carry without using both hands. The third handle is perfect in size, but if you carry the jug from this handle the cap is facing downward. So, if the fill cap was located nearest the large handle, this jug would be 5 stars.
Minus the spout/cap

I like this idea of this system. I still use it to transport fuel on my motorcycle, because of the securing system. For that it is awesome.
I have had no luck with the cap and spout being reliable.
Spout. The one that comes with it. Works sometimes when it feels like it. I can't even understand why it does or does not work when I'm doing the same thing. Tip it up down all around fiddle with the collar lock unlock. Rage rip it off spill gas as I pour. Okay so go buy the non fancy spout. That does work since it has no parts. But.
Leaking cap spout. The stock spout and cap leaks when closed up sometimes, takes care and checking, but usually seals okay. Don't like that I have to double check if I'm quick refueling. But that spout doesn't work. The minimalistic replacement spout pours well, but doesn't seal well at all with the cap for storage/transport. Also have had leaks with both while pouring.
So carry 2 spouts that both are not very good? Thanks rotopax.
I hope I just got a dud, but i doubt it, everything looks in good shape visually. You should send me a new one.
Solid and practical very good value for money

Strapped to the back seat of a BMWR1200GS motorcycle during a cross Africa trip. Flipped bike at 50Mph on hard sand road and absolutely no leaks. Tank got warm on occasion, no expansion issues. Very solid construction.
