Super disappointing.

Considering how high quality the SNES Classic was, looking at this clocking in at $20 more, I'm really disappointed in this thing. I don't think there's anything wrong with the selection of games, it's okay. Unfortunately, about half of the games are running European versions of the games instead of US versions, which means they play slower and have really bad frame rate issues not present in the US versions of the game. And honestly even the US games included have really serious frame rate issues, and look choppy and blurry; FF7's got really bad pauses and stutters right at the start. And there's button delay too, where you press a button and when you see it on the screen is just... bad.

This thing is essentially a Playstation emulator in a box, but instead of being really good and comparable to actually playing the games, it's a lot worse. You should probably just buy a Playstation 3 for this much money and play Playstation games like that; for the most part, it'd be much much better. And would also be a Playstation 3.

Games included: Battle Arena Toshinden (PAL Version), Cool Boarders 2 (PAL Version), Destruction Derby (PAL Version), Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto (PAL Version), Intelligent Qube, Jumping Flash! (PAL Version, not as noticeable as some of the others), Metal Gear Solid, Mr. Driller, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (PAL Version), Rayman, Resident Evil Director's Cut (PAL Version, big fail), Revelations: Persona, Ridge Racer Type 4, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Syphon Filter, Tekken 3 (PAL Version), Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (PAL Version), Twisted Metal, Wild Arms

Don't waste your time

I had very high hopes for this product...

What a let down. For the money I would go out and buy a second hand ps1 and a few hundred games. The frame rate is horrible in most of the games and the selection is a let down.

Didn't mention in the product description, but this won't play your old games, only the preloaded ones.

Half the games will not play correctly...
by Xear (2 out of 5 stars)
December 3, 2018

Please be aware that for some reason Sony used the PAL (European) versions of nearly half of these games, so they will run slower than they normally would (50hz vs. 60hz NTSC) making these game not play correctly on your North American TVs. These games are:

Battle Arena Toshinden

Cool Boarders 2

Destruction Derby

Grand Theft Auto

Jumping Flash!

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

Resident Evil Director's Cut

Tekken 3

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six

Each of these games will feel "off" when you play them thanks to Sony incompetence. Have fun!

Awesome little system

I truly do not understand all the negative reviews of this console. My two friends and I had a great time playing Tekken, Twisted Metal, and Metal Gear Solid tonight. I also did not notice anything unusual (not much slower, if at all) about any of the PAL games I played. They all seemed fine to me. I love the game selection and everything else about this device. The graphics are what I remember from the original PlayStation. Don't listen to the critics and the bad reviews, if you ask me. Thanks, Sony!

Overpriced, inferior product.

Overpriced, no AC adaptor, and a poor line up of games: 4-5 worth playing. Short cables--it's like they didn't pay attention with the Nintendo releases. Sony tried to jump on the bandwagon of tiny retro consoles, but didn't try to make this worth the cost.

I Love It...But I Didn't Buy it Expecting Perfection
by deusprogrammer (3 out of 5 stars)

It's stylish now a days to be cynical, snarky and edgy. Everyone acts like this collectible is the worst thing since the Black Plague...but there's fun to be had here.

The design of the little device is absolutely adorable, as are the controllers and the welcome addition of them being USB (so I might use them for other devices).

A lot of people nitpick the "ugly" interface, but honestly it does what it needs to do, and is modeled after the UI of the original PlayStation CD Player/Memory Management system.

The selection of games isn't great, but honestly it had the games I wanted most. Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Ridge Racer 4, Jumping Flash, Resident Evil, and Wild Arms were some of my favorites...granted I would have loved to have more Sony, Square and Konami classics, but sadly licensing for these games and the red book music tracks cost more money than the hardware does. So I can forgive that. No one will be completely happy with the selection here, sadly.

The games themselves certainly don't have the polish of the emulation on the SNES and NES Classic mini consoles, but they are serviceable and very playable. To be fair, these games show their age, which is what I always felt was the point of these classic consoles. I don't detect any discernible differences between them and their original disc versions.

I could sit here and try to defend it to you, but if you are looking for perfection, you aren't going to find it here. If you want a cute, collectible with some fun games to play, here it is. The edge lords and cynics out there call it trash. I call it a flawed, but fun blast to the past.

This is rubbish.

Painful to even look at the gameplay. This is complete rubbish. An original PS1 playing on a 19in tube TV would look far better than this. It's truly painful to look at and play.

Only 5 stars with bleemsync hack
by Rossg (5 out of 5 stars)
December 16, 2018

The PlayStation Classic has a lot of potential! Not great out of the box because of the lack of good games, but that can be fixed with bleemsync and a compatible USB stick. This has allowed me to customize the console to my likings. For that I give it 5 stars

Do Not Buy
by Ben (1 out of 5 stars)

The PlayStation Classic Console is a gigantic disappointment. Below you will find my Pros and Cons. Also a list of games that defined the PS1 back in the 90s.
EDIT: Ignore comments from people saying the system is not that bad, they are not Tech smart and have no idea what the system is supposed to look like.

CONS:
1. The Menu interface is Boring and uninteresting.
2. There is no power brick provided. (its possible to plug in the wrong power adapter and fry your console So beware)
3. It's slow, the emulation is actually pretty terrible. I have found this to be true looking at other reviews.
4. The games do not represent the best of the PlayStation 1 days. (more on this below)
5. There are no CRT filters, this means that the graphics look horrible on a modern HD LCD.
6. The controllers are not Dual Shock controllers. (Almost a Requirement for Rainbow Six)
7. It's over priced for the quality of the unit.
8. And this is big for me maybe not for you, The boot up sounds are missing and the game start sound is not anything like the original. It sounds absolutely terrible.
9. Sony used an Open Source Emulator. Why didn't they use an in house Emulator?
10. Why are their PAL games on this system. PAL 50htz NTSC 60htz. This means there is frame loss on PAL games and its noticeable.

PROS:

Not much to say here.
1. Its cute uhhh or something
2. it looks good next to my NES and SNES classic
3. You get 2 USB controllers that work on your computer...

Thats about it

A Better Game list here (IMHO)
1. Crash Badacoot
2. Crash Team Racing
3. Castlevania SOTN
4. Dino Crisis
5. Final Doom
6. Final Fantasy VII
7. Einhander
8. Oddworld
9. Metal Gear Solid
10. Twisted Metal 2
11. Rayman
12. Spyro
13. Wipeout XL
14. Resident Evil 1
15. Resident Evil 2
16. Ridge Racer Orginal + 60 Frame Version
17 GranTruismo
18. Parapa the Rapper
19. Syphon Filter
20. Silent Hill
21. Tomb Rader 1 or 2 IDC both are amazing

All in all I feel like SONY took this mini console as a joke. I think IMHO that sony handed this project off to the lowest bidder. It feels unfinished and unpolished. Its a Turd and not worth your money or time. If you are looking for nostalgia, look elsewhere. do not buy this mini console and if you already have I encourage you to return it. Make SONY understand that its fans will not put up with this uncompleted piece of garbage.
