I really wanted to like this tablet/dock with speakers combination. It's a fantastic concept at a great price, and I thought it (3Gb Ram 32 Gb Storage) was the perfect upgrade from my 3 year old Samsung Tablet.

Both the dock and tablet function are just OK. The screen beautiful and big - but intermittently non responsive - so it might take 4-5 swipes to get it to recognize I'm trying to unlock it. I was aware that this wasn't going to be a performance tablet - but hadn't experienced a jumpy/laggy phone or tablet like this is years. I like Lenovo laptops - I use them at work - but the build and performance of this laptop make it feel like a mid-tier 2015 tablet.

The screen docks nicely into the Alexa speaker setup. That part is better than I expected. Effortless.

Speaker quality is on par with my Echo Dot - but nowhere near as good as out Google Home - so I was a little underwhelmed.

The plastic cover on the tablet just feels cheap - and you can hear the joints flexing a bit when you hold it in one hand. Again - I REALLY wanted to like this thing - and I'm comparing it to a much older Samsung tablet - so I'm surprised to say that I think I'm going to return it and try to find something better.

I really wanted to like this and thought it would be the answer to the smart home confusion at our house. Alexa when it's docked, an Android tablet when it's not, sounded perfect. The execution just isn't there. Like most people I found the setup to be very confusing, and I'm pretty good with tech stuff. Am I setting up Alexa, Android tablet, both? It was all a lot with no direction. Even when I got it set up, the Alexa show mode is just full of bugs. First the tablet docks using bluetooth, which constantly loses it's connection and the reconnects. Not a huge deal, but it makes a lot of noise when it does this. I had a lot of problems with any video skills at first, they would just crash and cause the show mode app to restart. Once it did get working, they take ages to load the video. Just giving Alexa a command usually required me to repeat myself about 80% of the time. It would just quit listening in the middle of a command. I never did get Spotify to work correctly. Initially when I played music, it would only play from Amazon Music. Once it quit doing that, it would try to play from Spotify, but it was trying to open the Android app instead of just doing it through Alexa. This would bring up an error saying to install the Spotify app, which was already installed.

It's really unfortunate that the software is so buggy. I really liked the hardware and the potential of the product, the execution is just way off. I returned it after a few weeks and went back to the plain old echo.

P10 4/64 Was Working Well at first...

I own numerous Amazon Echo devices, but this is the first "show" capable one. I just never saw the appeal of a dedicated Echo Show that could only be a locked down limited screen. So when I saw the Lenovo SmartDock at CES I said "Yes, now this is cool".

I am sure everyone's needs vary, but for my purposes I wanted to have the Echo Show 90% of the time but also have the ability to pull up a website, a YouTube video, or simply use to watch Netflix or Hulu that other 10% of the time in Android tablet mode.

In the past week I've had the device it has worked great for both these purposes. I did go with the P10 4 GB RAM/64 GB Memory and it's runs nice and smooth. The all glass front and back of the P10 looks beautiful, but I wouldn't expect it to hold up well around little kids. Few other things I have noticed and will mention:
- When setting up initially do not have the tablet in the docking station. Otherwise it will keep trying to go into "show mode" and software will crash. Get tablet setup fully as an Android device then do the Amazon Echo Show setup with docking station.
- Have been a few instances where tablet does not immediately go into "Show mode" when docked. Takes 2 tries for it to sync with Bluetooth. Not a huge deal as it does this automatically but am hopeful software updates will improve
- Spotify is my default music streaming service. When asking to play music in show mode it open the Spotify Android app. Not necessarily a bad thing as you get more control, but is different than a normal Echo Show.
- The only supported video service is Amazon Prime. Hulu will not open when in Show Mode. Again, being a full Android tablet this isn't a deal breaker as you can open the normal Android app...just not with your voice.
- Sound from dock is OK. To me it isn't significantly better or worse than the old Echo that was being used previously in the kitchen.
- Since I wanted device to operate primarily as an Echo Show, I didn't want it constantly showing all the Android notifications, so went into each individual app notification settings to disable. If you leave an app notifications on they will pop up even when tablet is docked in show mode. For some this is good, but for my purposes it was an annoyance.

Overall I am quite pleased with the functionality, but I am hopeful software updates will continue to improve the Echo Show experience. On the Android OS side of things I am doubtful this will ever see an update but maybe Lenovo will surprise me.

UPDATE 5-25-19

I have dropped 2 stars on my rating due to ongoing Bluetooth connectivity issues that started after a couple months of owning and many others are complay about on their forums. Knowing this device was new I wanted to give Levono an opportunity to fix but it's but many months now and tablet still looses Bluetooth connectivity with dock numerous times a day. 75% of the time it automatically reconnects with dock but makes "ding" sounds when connection is lost and then reconnects. That's annoying but not the end of the world as it's in my kitchen. The other 25% of the time Bluetooth won't reconnect at all and need to delete, rescan and repair to the dock. This is done every few days and is quite annoying. Seeing as this the way Alexa Show works, not having it reliable is a core issue. Should an update come and fix I'll happily update my rating, but need to make other potential buyers aware. I have changed my option to this being a do not buy item sadly as I really wanted to love it.

UPDATE 8-27-19:

Adding 1 star back to be a 3-star product. Lenovo has corrected the digital photo frame issue and continuous Bluetooth disconnections with software update (finally) and it has been working OK for a few weeks. While the product is now working pretty well for me, I can't give more stars because I don't know it will stay this way...or a future update will take a step backwards again.

Truly want to love this thing as I love the concept but just seems like it was released prior to being fully baked.

Buggy

Pros:
- Hardware. For the price, the hardware specs are very good and the overall quality seems to be very good as well. I like the thin profile but it does worry me when my son is using it.

Cons:
- Whites are washed on the display. Instead of white, it's more of a soft white similar to that of a soft white light bulb. I'll try adjusting the settings to see if this can be fixed. Update: This I found to just be a setting designed to reduce eye strain at night.
- Crashed several times when setting up the tablet. Same for setting up the Lenovo kids account. In fact, every time I created a new kid's profile it crashed.
- Convoluted setup process. A dozen apps/services tried installing at the same time during setup resulting in pop-up after pop-up interrupting the installation of the active app/service that I was trying to finish up with. As an example, while setting up Alexa I kept getting interrupted by several other services like Google assistant.
- Lenovo Kids Account kept telling me I'm entering the wrong parental code when trying to download an app to the kid's profile. I reset the code 3 times trying to fix it but still kept saying wrong code. I eventually deleted the profile and started new and that seemed to work.
- While in kids mode Alexa keeps popping up saying "Alexa not available in kids mode" or something to that nature. I can understand a one-time notification but it does it all the time.
- Can't uninstall many of the preloaded apps resulting in 60% of internal storage already used straight out of the box.
- Hangouts will NOT stop popping up with the "SMS is no longer supported" notification. Given that this is a tablet and not a phone I don't understand why. Unfortunately, Hangouts cannot be removed and the only way to disable the notification is by installing another SMS app to change the default app too. Again, this is NOT a phone... Update: I was eventually able to turn off notifications to the app but still unable to actually disable or uninstall it.
- Lock screen randomly activates when using the tablet.
- When the tablet is docked and you switch between kids mode and the main profile it tries to reconnect via Bluetooth to the dock. There's nothing inherently wrong with this but instead of doing this in the background it acts as if it's connecting for the first time again. As a result there's a dock connect pop-up that takes over the screen.
- Installed a Samsung 128GB SD card and opted to extending internal storage to the SD card using adaptive storage. After formatting the card the storage capacity shows 246GB with 131GB currently used. In all fairness this is a bug that's associated with Androids OS and not Lenovo. Unfortunately in doing this the internal storage currently used dropped by only 200MBs.

Despite the rocky start and the SD card issue I will say it's been running stable and the expanded memory has helped improve performance. Minis transition to Alexa Show mode it has been working quite smoothly. My biggest complaint right now is the lack of custom bumpers.

Nothing but trouble!!!

Update: After 4! Weeks of lousy/none communication from Lenovo I finally asked Amazon for help. Through Amazon Lenovo sent me a defective Tablet, Lenovo established it was a defective Tablet, they had MY MONEY and my brand-new MY DEFECTIV DEVICE for over four weeks for repair, I called once a week for the status and I always got told a manager from the escalation team will give me a call back.....still waiting for that one. I had enough...i gave Amazon a call and explained my situation and after review of my case I got my money refunded. I do have to say....Amazon asked me to get the Tablet back from Lenovo. Right after the Amazon call I called Lenovo and demanded the DEFECTIVE TABLET back. Within 1 hour Lenovo was ready to send back the broken device. Got it the next day. Being in the middle for this situation I learned Lenovo has a very poor customer service rating and unfortunately I had a front row seat to blindly sign that statement. As I stated in my first post...I have several Lenovo/Motorola devices and I cannot say anything bad about them but as something went wrong Lenovo showed their true colors...... For me, I do not care what good products Lenovo will release in the future...I will never buy another thing from them. And if my experience just turns one other person away from Lenovo then writing this post was worth it. For Lenovo you are only a good customer when you buy a product, after that you are not even worth the responds.

I do want to thank Amazon for helping me with Lenovo and using some common and sense!

In general I am a LENOVO fan. I own LENOVO phones, tablets and laptops. But this tablet is a big disappointment. I kept an eye on the tablet since it was announced and I pre-ordered it as soon It became available. Out of the box....it looked nice, felt good and the docking station was a great extra. Unfortunately the joy went quickly into disappointment. Somehow nothing was working right. Alexa only responded when she felt like it ;-) I liked the feature as a photo frame...that didn't even worked half of the time. The whole software just seemed to be sluggish and not in good connection with the docking station. Since I really wanted to like this tablet I hoped a software update would come soon and the problems would go away. It is sad to say....the problems just kept adding up. After 4 weeks the device constantly disconnected - connected the Bluetooth to the docking station....making the device useless and I took it off from the dock because I was afraid it would burn down the house. My biggest mistake was not paying attention to the calendar. I was 2 days late for returning the tablet...so I called LENOVO directly. After some troubleshooting I was told I have to send everything to them....And per warranty I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SHIPPING!!! I thought that was ridicules...a brand new tablet.....not working correctly since day 1 and they want me to pay for getting their faulty new tablet back to them. I voiced my opinion to customer service and they agreed to pay for the shipping. Within the hour the tablet and docking station was packed and sent off. That was a week ago...I just checked the repair status: "After performing problem determination our service technician has identified the failure. Despite our best efforts to maintain inventory of all repair components, the service part needed to repair your machine is currently unavailable. We are working diligently to obtain replenishment stock and will repair your machine as soon as the part becomes available."

As I was reading the status I was thinking ...Man, I wish Lenovo would have done the right thing and just would send me a new tablet....what a difference 2 days make, right?

Bottom line....this tablet is NOT ready. I love the thought of the specification of this device but somehow I get the feeling the execution was rushed. What component can you not have to fix a tablet? Sounds more like there is a potential problem and Lenovo hasn't figured out how to fix it. My confidence in the device I bought is totally gone...even if they do "fix" it and eventually send it back to me....i am not trusting it on the docking station and for safety reasons I would keep it off.

My even greater epiphany is the LENOVO CUSTOMER SERVICE...like I said I own about half a dozen Lenovo products, never had a problem. This is my first encounter and I am disappointed how they handle situations. Yes, they are in the right, I was 2 days late for the return/exchange but if they would have been consumer friendly they would have seen that I started troubleshooting and resetting the tablet since day 3 and instead of doing the fair thing and exchanging the faulty device with a new one...nope, I am stuck with a not trustworthy tablet they cannot repair yet. The service is a game changer for me. No more LENOVO products in my future.

So, if you are thinking of getting this tablet....DON'T. Look for alternatives or wait couple of months until they hopefully fix the problem with this device but keep in mind...Customer Service will make you pay ;-)

Don't expect a $500 tablet for $200

Got m10 16gb 2gb ram version, so far great. Added 128gb Samsung micro SD, no issues. Set up was easy, did not enable any kids mode or Alexa or some other Lenovo junk. Any apps you don't want or not using, just disable it, you can adjust a lot in settings. I don't use any assisting apps, got it for web surfing, e-books, YouTube, sometimes movies. Dock works great for charging while watching something on the counter. Best thing is when you dock it can be used as a digital photo frame. Likely won't find a better CPU at this price point. Over all for the price it's a good unit, good enough for the next 2 years. It would be nice to have a case that would work with the dock.

First Thoughts after 6 Hours

Overall the tablet is a good looking device with a sharp display and good speed and performance among the few things I have run. Unfortunately the version of Alexa installed is lacking many of the basic features that make Alexa so nice to work with.
(1) No way to change wake word. This requires me to change the names on other devices in the same area if I want to use it from across the room (which I a very desirable capability) or get confused responses from multiple devices.
(2) No way to permently rename the device. Although you can edit it on the Lenovo or any other Alexa enabled device in the settings section, it always reverts back to the system assigned name.
(3) Overall there are a very limited number of settings options compared to other Alexa devices (I have mulitple devices Dot, Echo, Spot, Show) which makes it no where as user friendly as the other devices.

I am hoping that there will be updates to Alexa in the (near) future but I don't know if it will be up to Amazon or Lenovo and irrespectively I would recommend this product if you need a tablet and are an 'alexa fan.

P.S. - I would also like to be able to aquire additional stand-alone docks to increase the portability but Lenovo currently does not have them available.

My hubby gave me an early v-day gift, (he is techy). I was nicely surprised by him giving me something I could use for once. One time he got me glow in dark nightgown (lol!). Anyways, he had to setup for me which did take some time, I am guessing about 20 min. Then he told me to say, "Alex show me how to make Tiramisu" and it showed the recipe and asked to add it to my shopping list. (alexa has a hard time saying mascarpone -- haha). It does pretty much our alexa dot does but there is nice screen and can show pictures. I also linked my google calendar so I can give it commands like "alexa schedule a meeting with dentist at at 4pm on Mar. 8th". Very handy for sure. The bonus is that I wanted to upgrade my tablet from Samsung which is about couple of years now...this thing is a tablet with all the things a tablet is suppose to have like netflix and email. It's a pretty little device but I wish there was bumper for it but i don't know if that would work with speaker thing it comes with. It's suppose to work with other plugs and bulbs but I have not tried that -- will have to get the hubby to order some. The one small issue i have is that I haven't figured out how to go back to the main screen without pulling the table out. Other than that ...enjoying is so far!

Incredible And So Much Better Than Other Alexa Products!

The Lenovo Smart Tab M10 is absolutely amazing. Having tried several of the other Alexa products, I can definitely say this tops them all. Not only do I watch music videos, catch up on news, etc while cooking meals in the kitchen, but I constantly find myself grabbing the tablet and taking it around with me instead of carrying my bulky laptop. The integration with Alexa is seamless and the tablet sits easily within the doc. To top it all, the speakers sound great and have Dolby Atmos!

Keep in mind that this is running on Android, meaning the default apps that come with Android will be installed on here, including Hangouts. That being said, you can easily turn off notifications for individual apps you don't use, and I love the fact that I can add an SD card for added space. The initial setup does require you to update the software and apps, which is expected any time you receive a new tech product. Once everything was updated, setup was quick and easy/intuitive with easy instructions that popped up on the screen and walked me through the process.

I haven't noticed any issues yet and Alexa easily picks up my voice from across the room. Since the initial setup, I haven't had to restart the device at all and it still runs butter-smooth. Seriously love this thing. For the money, can't beat it!

Disaster and full of bugs

I'm so deeply disappointed in the Lenovo smart tab. I was really looking forward to this. Like others I found initial installation a disaster. Constant bugs. First it wouldn't update the apps, then finally after multiple restarts everything was updated, but still buggy. The show mode is buggy. If you request your daily flash briefing it will pay and won't stop even when you say Alexa home. When I tried opening a prime video it would try to open the app on android as opposed to in Alexa show mode. It constantly loses connection. Just horrible.

Msg to Lenovo. I suggest you pull the product until you fix the bugs or else you will get a lot of negative feedback. Concept is good, execution is horrible. This was not tested and was rushed out the door.
