I bought this for my partner who loves coffee almost as much as life itself. She had invested in some good thermos mugs over the years, some of which were good - some not so good, but inevitably she was compromising in some way on the enjoyment of her cup o' joe. About a year ago I saw a coworker of mine drinking out of an original Ember mug. They raved about it, so I started doing my research. While it seemed too good to be true, I held off on buying one until the improved travel mug was released. My patience was rewarded.

The mug is fantastic - it just works. The design is wondrous: beautiful to look at and hold, easy and intuitive to use, easy to clean and maintain, and most importantly - she loves it. My advice to anyone reading this is to stop compromising on your coffee, go get this and have a perfect sip all day, every day.

I like the new design. I have the original ember travel mug, the things I didn't like have been improved. The new ember cup is lighter and there is no more metal springs on the lid.

This is a great item. I was reluctant at first to get it because of the low ratings for the first generation travel mug, but I have 2 first generation mugs and absolutely love them. So when I heard the Gen 2 mugs were coming out, I purchased the Gen 2 Travel mug (especially since one can get a 20% discount at Bed, Bath and Beyond, which knocks the price point to around $150).

Pros: leak proof and durable (I dropped it accidentally from around 3 feet and luckily there was no damage, do not try that at home). Obviously, the ability to control the temperature. Everyone more or less knows what the pros are, the company advertises that.

Cons: unlike a conventional thermos, like Contigo, this thermos rapidly loses the temperature. With my contigo, the temperature of the drink can stay perfect for 3-5 hours. If I want to drink my coffee first thing in the morning with my contigo, I will brew the beverage around 1030 pm before I go to bed and it will be acceptable to drink when I am on my way at 0430 am.

The ember travel mug loses about 70 degrees of heat in about 1.5 hours from my experience (when the beverage is brewed it is around 182 degrees. Leaving the controlled temperature setting off and solely using it as a thermos, I have seen the temperature at 112 degrees consistently 1.5 hours later when I turn on the temperature controlled feature).

On older keurig 2.0s, one cannot just slide and place the ember travel mug to brew. So one would have to hold it as the beverage brews. On the keurig minis is the same situation. However, on the keurig elites you can easily place it underneath without an issue.

It would be nice to have a coaster for the car where one could charge it during long rides.

A larger size of at least 16-20 oz would be preferable because I like 12 oz of beverage, but the few times that I do add creamer to my beverage makes the space limited.

I know it seems odd to give 4/5 stars with the pro to con ratio, but again they pros are known and the travel mug is still awesome. I don't regret the purchase not once and I will buy the 14 oz Gen 2 mug.

When one first gets the travel mug it is best to charge it overnight. After that one big initial charge, the travel mug will charge very quickly.

To save time in the morning, one can brew the selected beverage set it to the desired temperature before bed, place it on the charging coaster and it is good to go first thing in the morning.

Another trick I do to conserve the battery life and get about 6 hours of great drinking temperature is to keep the power off and then set the temperature setting 1-1.5 hours later. Then use up the battery to keep the beverage at the selected drinking temperature. After the battery depletes, one can just use it like a regular thermos. Of course this is absent the charging coaster. With the charging coaster, enjoy the perfect drinking temperature all day long!

It is a purchase that it well worth it.

UPDATE 12/6/19: I poured my coffee into the mug From my keurig and secured the lid. As soon as the lid was secured it exploded and broke. Invest in some extra lids!!

I love this travel mug. It kept my beverage at the perfect temperature. I travels well. Works better than the regular mug. I took a 45 min drive and it kept the perfect temperature well beyond that time.
