Product Description

The very familiar 3-slot style payphone was first introduced in the 1950's and remained virtually unchanged until 1965. This appropriately christened prepay-style pay station will take you back to the days of old fashioned phone booths and 10-cent phone calls. Believe it or not, its predecessor was a post pay-style phone that actually allowed the caller to place their call and then pay once finished. While you don't have to pay for your calls with this Crosley replica, you will enjoy the functional coin slots complete with Crosley jingle as your money is deposited into the coin bank in the base of the unit.

Features

  • RETRO FUN: Based on vintage payphone designs, this wall-mounted home phone is fully operational, including a working coin box for authenticity
  • EASY OPERATION: The rotary-inspired push-button dial makes calling out simple while keeping the 1950s vibe
  • NEVER MISS A CALL: Featuring adjustable ringer volume, a flash option for call waiting, and a redial button so you always stay connected
  • EMERGENCY BACKUP: This home phone only requires an active phone line
  • DESIGN: Inspired by 100 years of Crosley innovations, our products blend vintage looks with modern technology; Crosley Radio products are proudly designed in the USA and come with USA-based customer support

The only 50's diner replica phone you can buy under $100
by Alex K. (3 out of 5 stars)

I love the 1940's and the 50's. A lot of that has to do with the Fallout series and my interest in history, but landlines have quickly gone to the wayside with the dominance of mobile cellular technology and we are seeing less and less landline phones in modern day. That quickly diminishes opportunities to use something like this Crosley throwback phone. This phone had a niche market to begin with and that market is even more quickly reduced by the shoddy build quality which consists of a cheap plastic material. There is no metal on this phone and that helps alleviate the cost of producing this replica of an old diner phone. I've owned Crosley products in the past and they've had better built things. The size was a bit smaller than I had expected but it still stands out and is considerably larger than a majority of landline phones you are probably considering.

I'm only using this as a prop/decoration for my youtube channel set so I cannot vouch for call quality. If you are getting this strictly for aesthetic reasons, this is probably the best classic diner phone replica you can find for under $100. It just isn't a big market. It is definitely a conversation piece for both young and old though.

I would have loved to rate this 5 stars but before the phone ...

I would have loved to rate this 5 stars but before the phone was even a year old the plastic handset cradle broke off rendering the phone useless. We have tried to superglue it back together several times but the weight of the handset is too much for it to handle. It's such a shame because we really loved the phone. We have left it to sit on the counter because we love the way it looks but alas it will need to be thrown out soon as my kids need a working phone for when they get home from school a bit before I get home from work (we don't do cell phones before age 14).

Cute

We got this because my wife likes the color for the kitchen.

It's very attractive. When you put a coin in, it makes a chirping sound like the old phones did. How long that will last is unclear, as others have pointed out. You don't need a coin to operate the phone; it's just for play and is a quaint feature. It comes with two keys to open the coin tray, which is essentially a bank. This could be fun with kids as a piggy bank.

The handset is solid, like the real ones, and the cord stretches about 11 feet. That's pretty darned good.

The downside?
1. It's push button, not rotary. Where the 1 and 2 are on real pay phones, you'll find the * and #, and 1-9 starts where the 3 is.
2. It's made of very cheap plastic, not the metal you find on the real deal. But you'll only notice that when you lift it, which should only be once for mounting. In use, you don't notice this at all.

It's an attractive ornamental piece, with very good sound quality. If you like the way it looks on this site, you'll love it in your kitchen. It is a quality working phone; it was a conversation piece at our annual T-giving family dinner for sure.

Decent look, but not well executed.

Looks great, though the plastics are pretty cheap and easy to break. The main problem is the ringer. Its a normal 10 walmart phone electronic ringer, i was hoping for a genuine bell style ring to match the look.

Love this phone! Sure it's plastic but you wouldn't know looking at it. If it was metal it would be pretty heavy to hang on the wall. Very satisfied with this purchase. So far it works great and the ringer is so cool. Just like the old days. Looks great in my kitchen.

A good Man Cave Addition
by Walleye (4 out of 5 stars)

This was pretty much just like the picture and chord was actually longer for the phone receiver to the wall mount that the picture indicates. The number on the phone are not illuminated or very larger so it is hard to dial if their is a low light. If you put coins into it they are stored liked a bank and the noise sounds just like an old payphone when you put money in but money is not required lol. I used in my man cave with all my GA bulldog paraphernalia the red went nicely with the design of the room. It is hard plastic but it looks like metal. The hand receiver is heavy duty to avoid breakage if dropped. All in all I am will pleased with the product.

One of my smart purchases.

I can't find any negative features about this phone......love the thing. It was a breeze to install and the red color goes great with my retro décor. I probably would have paid more for this phone if it were more expensive....actually, a terrific buy here on Amazon. Can you imagine what the cost of this phone would be if it were made of metal? Thus, you cannot tell from a distance that it's made of plastic which is fine.....it's a great addition to my kitchen. Plus, I love the sound of it when it rings. I highly recommend.

Nostalgia!!!

I have no idea what people are talking about. That the material is cheap plastic and all. True it is plastic but if it was made of metal like the original you would need a super wall to hang it because it would be too heavy. The plastic does not look cheap at all. It looks really beautifull. It shines and it feels very sturdy. A+ to the replica. It looks great on my kitchen and my kids are going nuts about it!!!
