Well built, fused, stays plugged in, compact for travel.

The Kensington K33117 International All-in-One Travel Plug Adapter is a great product. Unlike many other, cheaply made products, this one stays plugged into the socket it's plugged into. Others sag, lose connection, fall out of the socket. Not the Kensington. It also comes with an extra fuse. In the unlikely event that the fuse in the adapter blows, a replacement is just below the top cover of of the adapter. Well made, well priced for the quality, reliable. You can't ask for more.

Impressive!

First, a caveat: I have only tested this at home, not "live" (on a trip). But I'll be traveling to Florida in a month, and later this year to Greece, so it will get some "real world" use then. If my opinion changes, I'll update this review.

But this item looks great, and works great, so far! It's heavy, and seems very sturdy and well-designed.

In contrast to lots of adapters, which require the user to use arcane combinations of settings to "build" the proper plug configuration, this provides simple slide buttons. Find the right one, and you're done. It even handles the recessed French plugs elegantly, with a piece that pulls out; that can be used as a simple adapter by itself, or used with the converter to provide USB outlets.

I tested the US plug and both USB outlets provided enough juice for my iPad, which is the acid test for me.

I just ordered a second one, so my wife can have her own.

I'm hoping to replace many of my current international adapters with just this one. I'll let folks know how that goes!

But so far, so impressed!

Easy to use and no small parts to misplace. A good addition to my travel stash when leaving the US.

I picked this adapter up to have as a second adapter while traveling internationally (mostly to mainland Europe, but also to Asia and some other spots). It worked fine for me, and I really like that it's all one piece (no little pieces to lose!). As some people noted, it's a bit of a pain with three-pronged plugs. But, I was able to fit some items without issue. The others fit fine in the other adapter unit I travel with. So, it wasn't an inconvenience to me. If you're plugging in electronics or small appliances (like a curling iron), you should probably be going through an amp converter anyway... so you'd just need to make sure the converter has a two-pronged plug and will accept a grounded plug as the input. In that case, this is really a non issue.

The size of the adapter may be an issue for some people, depending what you are plugging in with it. I purchased a curling iron and hairdryer with European plugs so I didn't have to use multiple adapters and converters when using them), so it wasn't much of a problem for me. But, if you use this adapter, you can see that it will take up a lot of space next to the outlet that you are using. So, another plug may or may not fit in the adjacent outlet.

Oh, and as someone else noted, this is not a converter. That's not exactly "fine print," as an amp converter is a totally different thing... but if you're new to international travel, please look up how this works before you start frying things by plugging them in without a converter.

All in all, it's easy to use, and I like it.

Worked well with a small tweak

I understand that some people had some difficulty getting this plug adapter to work with 3-prong plugs. I did, too. However, to say that it doesn't work with 3-pronged plugs is absolutely false.

There is a hole in the back of the unit where the grounding prong goes when you plug in a North American plug into the unit. It's a very tight fit. So tight, in fact, that the back cover of the unit came off when I was trying to remove the test plug I put in there. But once the back cover came off, I noticed that it was nothing more than a hole. This plug adapter does not ground the item you plug into it. So it doesn't electrically connect to the grounding plug.

Therefore, I used my brain just a tiny bit and expanded the size of the hole for the grounding plug, first with a pocket knife, and then with a drill bit. Presto, 3-pronged happiness.

The most important things to take away from this are:
1. This unit does not ground the device you're plugging into it.
2. A little bit of brain power goes a long way.

Now, back to the plug adapter. It's not grounded, but it is fuse-protected. And the fuse is very easy to get to (on the front side is a small screw cover that opens to reveal the fuse), plus it stores a spare fuse in the back, behind that little cover that I accidentally pulled off when my 3-prong plug got stuck. It comes with one spare fuse.

Other than the issue with the grounding prong hole, the unit is very well designed. As you slide each adapter forward, small dust covers appear and close the slots for the other adapters (very well thought out). Compact, easy to use, and well designed with the exception of the grounding plug hole.

Great All-in-One Adapter, works in China
by Dan (4 out of 5 stars)

I just got back from China visiting Beijing, Xian, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Hong Kong, and other places I forgot. I did not encounter any major problems when using this adapter. Most places in China uses an outlet that includes a V shape and/or 2 prong rounded. However, the 2 prong rounded outlet has a 2-in-1 and is able to fit the 2 straight plugs that DO NOT have the holes (the standard for U.S plugs has the holes, so do not plug the U.S. plugs in the China outlet or else sparks will fly).

Of all the hotels I've been in, I could not use the V shape one except for one hotel in Xian. It seems the Kensington's adapter's V shape is slightly larger than the standard China plugs which is why it didn't fit. Pretty much all of the outlets (with the 2 prong rounded outlet) were able to fit the 2 prong rounded adapter. The minor problems with using the 2 prong rounded plug was that it felt a little loose especially for some electronics that uses a large base for a plug, like the Apple Macbook and if you have to connect a transformer to it. But these problems were only minor and I did not miss a charge at all over my 3 week stay in China. Hong Kong uses a differently plug which uses 3 large rectangular prongs. The adapter has that included as well and worked without problems.

This adapter saves you the trouble of carrying so many pieces. I bought two of these for my trip to China and my sister was amazed at how convenient it was to use and carry so I gave one to her. I would highly recommend it for anyone traveling to China. But if you want to use the V outlet or the U.S 3 prong w/ground instead, I suggest buying another adapter for that.

Does not work well with three-pronged US plugs

I bought this with the compact Outlets To Go Power Strip which Amazon suggested as a related item. The power strip is great and complements a plug adapter like this one fantastically.

However, there are mixed reviews for this product about whether or not it accepts 3-pronged plugs. The answer is: It does, but not very well at all. After I (forcefully) plugged the 3-pronged plug from the power strip in, it took several minutes of prying with various flat objects I could find in the hotel room to separate them again. There is no tolerance whatsoever for the third prong to fit comfortably. If you have a device with a wider prong, it simply will not go in at all.

It is nice to have an all-in-one adapter like this one that does not require interchanging parts. But the design of this one falls short. It is bigger than I'd like, and can be awkward to pack in a laptop case or backpack. (I can't fault Kensington too much for this one, as it appears to be due to the ridiculous BS 1363 (UK) outlet design, but they could at least address the depth.) It would also be nice if the levers were labeled with their respective countries, so I don't need to fumble with it trying to find the correct one.

Good value for the price

This is a well functioning international adapter. I bought it recently to replace a much more expensive one I had before which I bought at an airport. Let me say that this one does the work it's supposed to do. I've just been on a longer business travel that took me to London, Frankfurt, Doha, Beirut, Lagos and Port Harcourt. The plug worked fine everywhere.

I'm only giving it 3 stars because it seems to be made of the cheapest possible material and I doubt it will last (Not a big issue considering the price). As MANY others pointed out: It's extremely hard to use with a 3 pinned plug. You have to use a lot of brute force both to get it in and to remove it. It does work but both plug and adapter is prone to be damaged by the use of brute force. I admit that MAYBE I got a bad adapter but then I guess many others did too. Some QA/QC might be in order in the manufacturing process. IMHO

Works Great... but it's a very tight fit for 3 pronged US plugs
by Allen (4 out of 5 stars)

I used this for my trip to China and it worked fine for both plug types in use over there. It is very convenient to have an all in one power adapter without worrying about losing seperate power adapter pieces. Remember, this doesn't convert voltage. Check your devices to see if they'll handle 110-240V. If they do, this will work fine. It worked with my cell phone charger, laptop, camera battery chargers, and shaver.

I have two issues with this item though:
1) If you have a 3 pronged US plug, it will be a very tight fit. You're basically have to jam the round ground plug into a rectangle. After struggling to jam the plug in, you'll feel like you're nearly breaking the unit when you pull the plug out. It honestly might be easier getting a 3 to 2 prong adapter for a dollar or two at your local store.
2) The instruction manual that came with my adapter was for a different Kensington model that had an included USB port.

An almost great adapter
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

I had to take a business trip to China for a couple weeks and have a lot of electronics that I was going to use while I was there. Since I travel other places as well, I also wanted a adapter that I could also use in other countries. This adapter was a great purchase for my use.

Good-
* Has all the adapters in one unit. You don't have to carry around a bunch of different plastic adapters.
* The function of sliding each plug out and retracting it works really well.
* Small and compact

Bad-
* The hole where you plug the ground prong into the unit is too small. This makes it very difficult to plug in and remove plugs with a grounding prong.

As another reviewer mentioned, you can modify the adapter with a drill bit, knife, or something similar. If you just remove a little bit of the plastic on the sides of the slot it will work perfect. Just be careful to not go to deep when trimming the plastic. If you only use items with 2 prongs (no ground prong), then you have nothing to worry about. After this small and simple mod, it works perfect!

looks great, but...

Since I travel out of the country frequently, I had hoped to avoid bringing my bag of various connectors. I got this and the first time I tried it in Argentina it didn't work. I will try it once when I return home before I toss it, but wasn't worth bringing along and also quite bulky. The different connectors do not move very easily either. It's too bad because would have been a great idea and I have other Kensington products that work.

Addendum: When I tried it in Argentina it was 2 months old, tried it again in Australia-New Zealand and still didn't work, so basically took up space and useless. I had to buy another in New Zealand that works. Since trying to plan in advance for travel by the time I used this the first time the window for return was over so a waste of money.
