This was suppose to be a gift for my husband. We had seen an ad on a Facebook page (Interesting Engineering) which made this look like a sort of 'kickstarter' item. When it arrived, it was in a Walgreen's sort of 'as seen on TV' package with a markdown sticker, seemed very small, and he was disinterested. I ended up giving it to my father instead. Well, my man forgot his tools when he went to do some work on my mum's house and had to turn to the, still unopened, gimmick Walgreen's product yesterday. ...turns out, this thing is really awesome! It IS small and it does feel gimmicky, but it DOES work. He was able to use it extensively yesterday and it did the job well. We're actually considering ordering one to keep in the car for any odd-jobs we might need it for to keep from buying (yet another) tool set for the car that ends up being taken to someone's house and lost forever.

I'm still pretty put-off that I thought I was buying a small-batch start-up business product and it ended up being a Walgreen's markdown product, seemingly plucked right off the shelf, but I would recommend this to a friend and plan to buy another.

The idea is great and it work very good on bolt in an open area, however most of anything you will try to work on, will not have the option of fitting the wrench around it, it need a clear area for the locking mechanism to grip the bolt.

So sorry but this item is not very useful anywhere.

Easy to use and made in the USA!

This tool is much easier to use than a regular adjustable wrench. The 6 inch size covers SAE sizes 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 inch and Metric sizes 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 mm.

I plan on buying the 8 inch size and the 10 inch size so that larger SAE sizes and metric sizes are covered. The 8 inch size covers SAE sizes 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8,11/16, 3/4 inch and Metric sizes, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 mm. The 10 inch size covers SAE sizes 3/4, 13/16, 7/8, 15/16, 1, 1-1/16, 1-1/8, 1-1/4 inch and Metric sizes, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30 mm. The size information is from the manufacturer's website.

Bought it to get back at Sears - Works well

I bought this to show my support for the company. I have used it several times and find it very useful and tough. Has a stripped/rusted nut that I needed off. I did not have enough strength in my hands to get enough force. Use a set of vice grips on the handle and rotated the whole thing. Worked like a champ. Using the vice grips on the tool did not damage the tool. Most other pliers would have been bent. I am buying the larger size pliers to finish out the set.

Do wish the handles had an offset. When working on nut that is flush on a flat service they are hard to use. The flat surface allows only the tips of you fingers to be used.

I am pretty handy and have a garage packed with various tools for all sorts of mediums. So, excitedly, I thought I would try out my new gadget, a 6" Loggerhead wrench, on some simple bike maintenance. It seemed like the perfect tool for that, but it didn't matter if it was basket bolts or break nuts, if I got a grip I couldn't turn it. The head was too bulky to move and the angle it was tilted was ineffectual. I was unable to remove a single nut or bolt off my bike with this tool and reverted back to regular adjustable and open-ended box wrench. This small adjustable wrench appeared to be designed to handle small hardware, ranging from about 0.25" min. to 0.55" max. The problem is that nuts, bolts, and parts that small are usually in tighter fitting areas and this wrench has a big head that is difficult to maneuver into position to grab small parts securely, and that's if you can fit the wrench head in at all. In addition, it has rivets on the side of the tool that pop up and prevent the jaws from laying flush against the work surface. This causes the clasping part of the jaw to grip only the top part of the nut/bolt/part instead of the whole head. And that's, of course, if you are lucky enough to get any grip at all.

Fun tool, limited usefulness

The fact of the matter is that with a lot of things these days, manufacturers care a lot more about cost of initial build than repairability. Not necessarily a bad thing, but a tool like this just isn't capable of accessing a slightly recessed bolt or nut. Just did a timing belt job on my car and I'm sure there wasn't a single hex fastener head in the whole job that I could've used this wrench on. I bought it because of NY Times article on Sears violating the bionic wrench's inventor/manufacturers patent. The bigger size might work for my wooden deck, but it's not nearly as useful as a Crescent style adjustable wrench even if it's quicker. Plus you have to squeeze while you turn, not much good in limited spaces.

An ingenius wrench

It is hard for me to resist new and ingenious tools, and a set of these wrenches was temptation I could not avoid. In a limited size tool box, they make it possible to cover a wide range of SAE and metric sizes with a couple of these wrenches.

Very ingenious design, and it should stand up well to medium heavy duty use. If your application requires a very heavy "graunch" , you are probably better off with a set of forged box wrenches, so I would not recommend this product for a heavy duty truck repair shop ... but it just might be rugged enough even for that application. But for everyday duty duty use, it looks like a winner, especially if you have limited space in your tool kit. And the bonus is that it should work equally well with SAE or metric fasteners.

Versatile and easy to use

Size is limited to some degree at 9/16 sae and 14 mm metric, however the tool really shines if you are working blind and there is no clearance issue. I am acclimated to box wrenches with 15' handle offset angles. You don't get that with this tool so if you are working on a larger surface your hand will get in the way. I'm thinking of clamping the tool in a vise and heating the handles enough to give some hand clearance.

I ordered 2 different sizes of the Loggerhead Tools Adjustable Bionic Wrenches & I'm glad I did. They are easy to use, sturdy, and very well made. The Loggerhead Wrench grips the item (like a nut or a part) very well. It's easy to crank with simple twists of the hand/wrist. I like that it is 'Made in America'. I have large hands and I have no problem getting a grip on the Loggerhead Tools Adjustable Bionic Wrench.
