These aren't your mom's pie irons...by citydweller (5 out of 5 stars)

These are cast iron potential pass down to your grandkids pie irons included with years of tasty camping recipes in their bones. Super easy to use, great fit for bread, rolls, etc. Instructions are clear, make sure to season them after every use. I wrap mine in paper towel afterward - makes them easier to store with oil all over them.
Since they are cast iron - there may be a defect causing the hook to break, or cast to crack. Not to fret - these irons are backed by a 10 year warranty - and their CEO is extremely responsive if something does happen caused by manufacturing defect.
5/5 stars, don't cheap out - buy these irons.
Fell apart immediately.

I'm disappointed in the build quality and I wish that I'd heeded the warnings in other reviews. The handles are fastened to the iron with tiny pins - 2 per handle. The pins were loose and fell out immediately upon testing the product, and repeatedly after I put them back. I tried to use the pie iron one time in a camp fire and quickly decided to return it because the unreliable union between handle and iron meant that the entire contraption could fall apart at any second. This was not safe to use. Thankfully, a cheaper-but-sturdier model from a big box store provided a much better experience. This one is packed up for a return to Amazon and I'd recommend that anyone buying one here test the connection between iron and handles before putting the cooker into use.
Broke before even using!

Wish I had listened to the other reviews. Bought these a year ago anticipating building a patio with a fire pit. Finally pulled them out tonight for the first time. While washing the wax off, I noticed 3 of the handles were a little wobbly. Then as I was applying the oil to season them, one handle completely fell off. Never even made it to the fire! Too nervous it's going to happen on those with wiggle handles so won't let my kids use them now. What a waste! Packaging claims it has a 10 year warranty so I've emailed the company. I will update if I hear back.
Do not purchase!

It broke off after the second "camper pie" in the fire. Purchased just days before I used it. Needless to say we left it at the cabin. I didn't want to put a dirty and broken pie iron back in my car. Definitely put a damper in the night, one iron and four campers. Maybe should of brought home to return... do not buy!!

After one weekend of camping these sandwich cookers are no good. We used them all throughout our camping trip and by the 2nd day, the sticks were wobbly and almost felt as though they were going to come out of the sandwich part. In fact it was so loose that we could not even clamp the latch that holds the sticks together, which allowed ashes to get inside of the pie iron.
I will mention though, the sandwich portion is very heavy duty and browned our bread just perfect. It's too bad the stick quality is terrible.
Still the best-but the bar is being lowered

I have used Rome pie irons for years-the round version. I wanted to get the square for sandwiches and all is good, however the handles on these are not nearly as nicely finished as my older ones-they seem to need more sanding as they are rough and not well finished or stained..just another way to cheapen them I guess.
Also with all the new cast iron being done in the US I would love to see Rome bring their casting back to the US!
Broke during 2nd use but okay for $16

The hinge on one of the pie irons broke on our second camping trip using these. The iron is still usable, it's just disappointing that it would break on it's 2nd use.

I bought two of these to take camping with my daughter-I was really impressed with the quality when they arrived. I was also amazed at how heavy they are. I think at bedtime we can just take these in the tent with us and if a bear comes to eat us we can knock him out with them.
First one broke in two spots on the first use.

The first unit broke in 2 places upon first use. The handles are just held in with roll pins. I'm assuming when the steel got hot the pins fell out and the handles pull right out while my sandwich burned in the coals. Upon retrieval and handle repair, load a second sandwich, close the lid and the cast hinge snapped off. Cold sandwiches in camp that day.
Amazon replaced it, second one arrived quickly. I don't have much faith in it, however it did make it past the first use. Hopefully it holds up. Seems like this is the brand recommended by everyone. Only time will tell.
The best thing since sliced bread

How did slice bread ever survive without this hot little item? Or hashbrowns, tortillas, and biscuits for that matter?
I had seen these years ago but never used one. I bought 2 and seasoned them on my backyard grill before taking them camping. I made spaghetti sandwiches, eggs and hashbrowns with onions, peppers, sausage, and cheese, and other delicious sandwiches. It takes a couple of tries to figure out the best heat and timing, but with a little practice and extra ingredients, we quickly caught on. Now, this tool is on my list of essentials for dump camping.
