I'm surprised this has such low ratings..I got this as a stocking stuffer for Christmas and had a blast with it. I can't believe it actually came with a song book, and the humour contained within is good fun too. The interval markings are quite accurate too. And the book has a plastic sheath attached to hold the ruler in.
My girlfriend got this for me because I always annoy them by "twanging" random objects on the edge of my desk, so it was a pretty perfect/funny gift from her.
As an aside, this works particularly well on cheap/hollow desks, because the vibrations from the ruler are amplified throughout the desk. Nicer, heavier, hardwood or solid desks probably would not amplify the sound much. Mine is pretty loud on my cheap Ikea desk. This would be a good toy to have on an office desk for visitors to amuse themselves with.
Low pitched

I think the tone produced on this ruler is too low. The vibrations created are barely discernible until reaching the upper notes. The table one uses has much to do with the quality of a sound. I think wooden rulers, a bit thinner than this plastic monstrosity would make a better sound also. Anyway, how is petro-plastic more environment-friendly than that good old renewable resource wood? The accompanying book, however, is tongue-in-cheek hilarious.
Does what it should

Is it a legit instrument? No, probably not, but you shouldn't expect a ruler to be a real instrument. Does it sound pretty close to the songs when played as the book says? Yes it does.

Hilarious and cute gift. But as soon as it gets put down it becomes clutter, much like many funny gifts.

this was a very inexpensive stocking stuffer. It served it's purpose well. It was interesting and different, but it was a little hard to call it "music"...

Made a fun mini, gimmicky gift especially for the price. Wouldn't really call it "music" though.
