Chess pieces do not light up in the center of ...by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

Chess pieces do not light up in the center of the board. Some did not light up at all. I requested an exchange for this reason and was sent a second set with the exact same problem. I guess they don't check for quality before sending them out. Also, the board is plastic and very cheap-looking. Now asking for a full refund.
It's a toy, not a showpiece

UPDATE 3/2/18 Set was in storage for about a year, set it up and blue pieces wouldn't illuminate in middle of board. Ridiculous.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Set is really cool and pictures don't do it justice. As evidenced by other reviews, a lot can go wrong with so many pieces and components. My issues:
1) The board bulges up a little in the middle. It's still perfectly playable.
2) A red bishop's LED also doesn't seem to be inserted right... pokes out the bottom a little so the piece sits weirdly. The chessmen are obviously standard glass pieces from cheap sets with LEDs shoved into the bottom, so the fit might not be 100% perfect each time.
3) My blue queen wouldn't illuminate when placed on the center of the board. An Amazon return claim yielded a working replacement piece quickly sent from the seller.
I'm cool with this purchase and keep it in the proper perspective: this is not a display board to impress your high-class friends. This is a novelty toy, with the quality and functioning in line with that type of product.
Works as advertised, Quality control is a bit lacking though.

First time I used opened it up my brother and I play a game for two hours. We really enjoyed the LED aspect of the game and it actually made it easier for us to plan our next move. The lights even got my young niece and nephew interested in playing chess.
First thing I noticed about the quality of the glass is that some of the pawn pieces had air bubbles and that one my queens were sloping to one side which besides being kinda funny didn't really bug me. The glue holding the LEDs in place was also coming off, you think for a 60-70 dollar chess set they'd take more care but besides those few gripes overall I was satisfied with it.
First thing a customer should keep in mind when purchasing this item is that the glass is fragile and it could break while being shipped, I ran into this problem the first time I ordered one but the company I bought it from refunded me almost immediately which really helped.
Faulty quality giving Santa a bad rep

I would give this 0 stars because but you have to click on at least 1 star. I bought this as a Christmas present for my nephew from "Santa". When we plugged it in, it did not illuminate so we thought perhaps the adapter was not functional. When we put in the batteries and screwed on the lid to the battery compartment, the entire battery compartment began to smoke. So we rushed the board outside so we wouldn't set the house on fire, while simultaneously unscrewing the battery compartment to try to get the batteries out. I highly do NOT recommend this product.

As soon as you handle the box, you already know it's a cheaply made chess set. No respectable chess board should weigh this light, much less one that boasts of glass pieces that light up! The board is misshapen, plastic, and made in China. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the pieces do not light up consistently in the middle of the board. But at the end of the day, it is still a cool novelty. But there is no reason that it should cost $66.
Not so much

Could have made it better. The pieces light up brighter along edges of board. Some squares barely light up at all, and some of the colors don't match. My son decided to take it apart and saw that the wires inside were only along the edges, so he is in the process of repositioning it. We will see... I think they should have made it better and charged a little more. We'd be happier buyers.
Seller is as nice as the product

I purchased this chess set as a Christmas gift. The set arrived very promptly and the box was in excellent condition, however, when I plugged in the set I noticed that several of the pieces would not light on the board and that the white king had a chipped crown. The checkerboard was also very scratched up as if this was returned by someone else.
I contacted the seller to report the damaged set. The SELLER was very nice and qickly replaced the damaged chess set. The new set arrived promptly and works perfectly.
The chess set itself if quite unique and is great fun to play in low lighting or the dark.
The chess peices are nice looking and comfortable to handle.
Great product

The colors are awesome. It's a blast to play with friends in the dark. Like other reviews, the quality of the product is low. I haven't experienced broken pieces on arrival, or pieces not turning on. It says in the box to make sure you keep the board and pieces away from metal objects which could obstruct them.
Lighted pieces, kids enjoy it.

Ordered the red and blue piece set and received the blue and white piece set. Since it was a christmas gift it was over 30 days until this was realized when the box was opened and it was setup. Otherwise the device works good. The board looks and feels cheap but the centerpiece is the lighted pieces.
