The fine ceramic blades sharpened some serrated steak knives nicely.The coarse metal blades are good for grinding up knives you want to get rid of. They really chew up a knife blade and I would not advise using them. I will probably keep the sharpener but it's not worth the money. It's basically a disposable kitchen gadget. There are no shortcuts for sharpening a knife.

if you care about your knives in the kitchen this is the indispensible tool . put it in the drawer and use it to keep your cutlery sharp. good sharp edges make all the prep work go so much faster and easier than fighting a dull blade. the ceramic side of this well made tool keeps a nice sharp edge on my knives . a few pull throughs after cleaning and drying the knives and they are ready to go for the next use. you really don't appreciate how much better a sharp knife is to work with until youy try this gem- you will appreciate how much better a fine edge works in your kitchen.

It does a great job of cleaning up a bevel and giving it a keen edge. Depending on the condition of the blade it may take quite a few passes across the coarse stones to take out unevenness left by a poor job using another sharpening method. Once done, however, sharpening is a simple matter of pulling the blade across the fine stones until you achieve the edge you need. Everything about it makes it easy to use. It is a straight forward design that doesn't require a user to do any guess work, the handle is comfortable and the unit has a bit of weight to it so that it remains stable while in use. I am very happy with this sharpener.

This was a gift for my parents, whose knives were notoriously dull. I worried about my Mom struggling with a dull knife and possibly cutting herself, this one really helped immensely. I showed my Mom how to use it, and she was able to, and really liked it. Hope she continues to use it! Fingers crossed!

the sharpener is easy to use and puts a good edge on knives. It can be used on serrated edges but only on the coarse side (left). Good purchase.

I would not purchase this item again. The ceramic blade sharpener broke after about a month of use. I would not advise anyone to buy this one

This is an inexpensive item that does what it advertises: sharpens knives. No complaints thus far! And I still have money left over to buy more gadgets, which is the best part ;) Sometimes simple is as good as, if not better, than a more expensive electric gadget that gives the same result. The bonus is that it sharpens scissors too, and not all will do that. I recommend this item to smart shoppers, or shall we say "sharp shoppers"....

Sharpen away

It works. The quality is good. I got it for $14. I saw it in a store for $27. The Wusthof one looks just like it and is $50. Shipped fast and product is as expected.

Now I can sharpen away in preparation for the Zombie Apocalypse. It sharpens straight knives and curved ones. After using this, you'll hack through any Zombie part that gets near you. For $14. That's a better deal than a Street Sweeper any day!
