Product Description

Aquapod Bottle Launcher, Fluorescent Orange - Hog Wild was founded in 1996 and we live by these simple rules: We sell innovative novelty products typically geared to older kids (over 8) and that cross over to adults. We try to be different and dance to our own beat when developing toys and gifts. We avoid competition whenever possible (no board games, no fashion dolls, no flying disks). We don't do gag gifts but do enjoy humor and farting products (we just don't sell them). We're not the brightest bulbs in the warehouse but we do try and often own up to our stupid mistakes. We like things simple because it's easier for us to understand. We're located in Porkland, Oregon and ship all our products from this sometimes inconvenient location. We typically take 3 to 5 days to process an order for our retail stores and we like to get paid on time. If you're a credit worthy retailer, we'll offer you terms. If you're an "end user" we want you to buy from our website and we value you the most of all. I'm sorry our prices are not dirt cheap but what you find from us, you should not find anywhere else. There are times when we get knocked off but that's life in the toy business. We're always on the prowl for new ideas and look to outside inventors for help. Most of the really good inventors are very hard to find and they are often bar tenders, school teachers, fireman, and other professions not typically associated with inventing. When we find these people, they typically have really clever, never before seen ideas. They are always smarter than we are and we feel very lucky when they license their product idea to us. Fact: The best products we have always come from outside inventors. If you've got a great idea, we'd love to hear from you. If you work at a professional inventing company with fancy presentations and 1,000s of great ideas, you're probably not a great fit for us. Perfect gift for teenage boy and girl.

Excellent product

After borrowing a bottle rocket launcher from a friend, the style with tripod or bipod legs you stick in the ground, I determined not to purchase one of those because it's a royal pain to use. When I found the Aquapod at Amazon I ordered it with high hopes. We used it today and launched a bottle rocket about 25 times and had no problem with this launcher. It is excellent. Stable, easy to use and reliable. I used a bicycle floor pump with a pressure gauge, which I believe is quite accurate. It easily handled the recommended 60 psi, and the emergency pressure release unit kicked in a couple of times when I tried to put a little extra in. So it is safe as well. at 40 - 60 psi it sent the rockets upwards of 100 feet or more. I really like this unit and would not buy any other type of launcher. At $25 to $35 it is priced appropriately, and I believe worth the cost. If you want a bottle rocket launcher, buy this one.

Failure to launch? Get some silicon grease!
by RT (5 out of 5 stars)

Lots of fun! Bought this for a 10 year old but the entire family has greatly enjoyed this. The only problem we had initially was bottles failing to launch. After some research we found some reviews that suggested using silicon grease but they were not clear why. Without the grease, we were getting launch failures about 3/4 of the time. What happened after the trigger was pulled was the bottle would lift slightly off the base but not leave the pad. This meant you couldn't reengage the trigger and the bottle was stuck on the launch. Given the pressure within these bottles, you probably do not want kids dealing with this. Once we applied the silicon grease and using the same set of bottles, we had 20+ successive launches with no problems. Without the silicon grease, we probably would rate 3 stars but with the grease it's easily a 5-star toy. Ideally, the makers would include a small tub of silicon grease as part of the kit. Excellent Product

I teach 9th grade physical science and I purchased 2 of these launchers to use for my unit on rocketry. The kids absolutely loved making water bottle rockets. I taught them how to make the bottles aerodynamic with nosecones and fins and they loved being creative and designing their own rockets. I used these launchers for all 4 periods of physical science with 30+ kids in each class. The launchers held up surprisingly well to the stress of ninth graders and they were very safe. All of my kids got to experience rocketry and it was all thanks to the Aquapod! If you teach physical science, these are worth every penny. I have never seen my kids so engaged or excited about science! This is a very dependable launcher that worked over 100 times in one day.

Best Launcher

Used this at a recent cub scout event and they loved it. I had my concern that the plastic release lever would be broken by the boys but it held up well even when they really yanked on the string. One Note of Caution: this needs to be used on a level service, if the ground is not level, then use some wood to level the launcher. All its vital that you use the U-clips to secure the launcher to the ground. Finally don't forget to lubricate the o-ring that seals against the bottle. I used a compressor at 30 PSI setting to charge the launcher, the compressor was tremendous time savor.

Design flaws
by Christopher Rettig (2 out of 5 stars)

I would not buy this launcher again as it has several design flaws. First, and most importantly, the tube that the bottle fits on is SO TIGHT that when you pull the release cord, the bottle does not come off of the launcher. The only way to get it off is to pry it off with some type of lever which makes staying safely away from it impossible and pulling the cord pointless. Next there is a safety pressure release valve that prevents you from putting in more than 50 lbs of pressure. We bought this for a student project and were supposed to try different pressures but on this launcher the only pressure we could do was 40-45 lbs. 3rd - this bike pump connector is below the rocket water line so water leaks inside of the bike pump. 4) the pull string clip is so cheaply made that it broke the first day we were using it. I can build a better launcher than this for cheaper, and I think I will.

Fun and convenient tool for science or just for plain old fun!

This was a great find on Amazon! It shipped fast, it saved me time building one of these things, it was inexpensive and most importantly, it worked! I wanted this tool to show my science class the relationship between pressure and volume. They all made their own bottle rockets and had a lot of fun with his thing! There are only a couple of minor things that anyone buying this needs to be aware of; 1. The clip at the end of the pull string is not durable and it breaks/ malfunctions after many launches and 2. You have to keep track of the black "o" ring(s) that come included with this kit. Those "o" rings are essential when creating a sealed system for the bottles and if it gets lost during all of the fun, you won't be doing any further launching. When you work with teenagers like I do, those two mishaps I just mentioned can easily occur! This thing is great and I highly recommend it.

Overall worked well. Pressurizes rockets up to 50psi.

Teacher here! Bought this to test launch our bottle rockets for Science Olympiad. It worked pretty well and the bottles definitely got some major air. It came with everything we needed besides the bike pump. The metal stake to hold it down didn't stay in the ground very well so almost every time we launched the bottle, the launcher popped up or flipped over in the grass.

The only thing I was disappointed in was that we can only pressurize the bottles to 50psi (I'm sure for safety reasons) but the day of the competition they pressurize the bottles at 75psi (with a much larger launcher) so we couldn't do an exact simulation to see how the rockets will perform on competition day. Although 50psi was higher than the other launcher I bought when I realized this one didn't go up to 75psi (neither one listed the pressure limit when I bought them - I only found out after I received them).

So I'll be keeping this one to use again and we'll just have to do some math or ratios to accommodate for the lesser psi when testing.

Meh

My son wanted the $90 water balloon launch and i said no way! I found this product and he seemed satisfied to compromise. When he bust this thing out of the box, it seemed all the neighborhood kids were suddenly his best friend. I supervised them for the first day of launches. My beef with this item is that the launch mechanism doesn't release all that well. My son -n- friends were forced to settle with kicking the water bottle until it released.

Summary:

Pros:
-my son got out of the house.
-he bonded with his friends
-as long as you have a 10 year old and up, they can do it themselves

Cons:
-the release doesn't work that well

Overall:

I definitely got my money's worth on this thing. They played for several hours on this everyday for a week straight. But I was nervous about the thing smacking the kids in the face upon launch.

Fun for all ages

The kiddos can not get enough of the Aquapod. Only used it a couple of different times however many lift-offs each time. Fun for the adults to try to catch the bottle with the kids as well. We have yet to catch one however keep getting very close! A great addition to outdoor activities. The price tag is a bit steep however keep in mind that there isn't anything other than a 2 liter bottle that you need to purchase for ongoing fun. I use a small air compressor tank that I fill with air and have not yet run the small tank empty. Only takes 50psi to launch and the unit has a feature that expels any additional air you might pump into it so that it won't overfill. Nice feature to keep people from breaking it. There is also a metal stake that comes with the unit. The stake goes over the Aquapod to secure it to the ground so that the person pulling the trigger string can't accidentally pull the unit over and shoot a bottle at themselves or someone else. I also highly recommend an adult be present as it does lift off with a good amount of force. It could certainly hurt someone if used improperly.

Just plain fun

Easy for kids 5 and up to do themselves (with adult supervision) 8 and up no problems. Durable , spare o/rings included. Tying on some colored flagging tape or an army man parachute makes additional fun or glow sticks at night. Kept the little ones safely occupied July 4 and easy to take to a park. Would buy again, one product improvement would be a guideline eyelet to keep the trigger line intuitively straight, but just a thought, not really needed, I really like the high pressure safety blow off valve. We bought the recommended tire pump, it works very smoothly, but most would work I suppose,

Seems like a good idea, but very inconsistent and possible dangerous
by Katharine M. Key (3 out of 5 stars)
June 14, 2019

Bought this to use for STEM day activity with about 25 rockets. First, having to undo the stake and reset it each time was annoying as it didn't always go back into the ground well enough and eventually got bent in a grassy, non-rocky ground. Next, we never got the rockets up to 50 psi. Some rockets took off at only 20 psi (using suggestion of on 1/3 of water) and others began to shake at 25 psi, which was dangerous because we were still pumping it. Finally, the release trigger didn't really hold the bottle into place. Before when we did this activity, I used bricks, a cork, and a basketball needle, so I thought this should be an upgrade in safety. Not really. It's very light plastic, so I can see this for the occasional use in backyard fun, but for school science use, I'd find something more sturdy and safe.
