Great Idea and it's, Cooper Approved!
by Linuxian (4 out of 5 stars)

A friend had one of these for his dog on a recent backpacking trip. I ordered one for my dog Cooper the moment we got back! Here are a couple of things I noticed upon first use.
1. For me, it actually saved a lot of water over a bowl. No more bowls of have drunk water thanks to my picky lab who won't drink from a bowl that's "not his". Ugh. Why does this matter? Well, it means I can carry a more precise amount of water in my pack. Water is very heavy and as a backpacker, I don't want to carry more than I have to. There's nothing worse after lugging water up the last insurmountable mountainside than watching my dog trip over his bowl and try to drink it from the dirt (Not his bowl, remember.....). Now, since I only squeeze the bottle as he drinks, there is very little waste and no bowl to tip. He doesn't mind drinking from it either. I was surprised how quickly he took to it.
2. The bottle itself is very light weight and relatively compact. It's an out the size of a 20 soda bottle. He easily carries it in his pack and I refill it as needed from my water bladder. He has a large-size RuffWear pack that easily holds the bottle. A medium should be able to do the same.
3. The only reason it got 4 instead of 5 stars is because when tightening the bottle into the threads, the material is so soft that it allows me to easily turn it past the threads. It's kinda unsettling thinking I have a water bottle in a pack that the top can only be gently tightened.

Convenient AND durable!
by Marissa K (5 out of 5 stars)

As a person who is frequently out-and-about with a dog, plenty of water is an absolute MUST. Initially I used a collapsible bowl for water but I grew tired of having to take off my hiking backpack, rummage for the bowl, fill it, pack it up and repeat the whole process multiple times during our hike. I tried clipping it to his leash but it was still more of a hassle than I liked and difficult to make work on narrow but busy trails. Eventually I stumbled upon the Gulpy and decided to give it a try: it was exactly what I was looking for!

Instead of needing to take my entire pack off to water the dog, I can just reach into one of the beverage compartments on the sides of my pack and grab the Gulpy. I don't have to worry about blocking the trail while setting up a bowl/waiting for my dog to drink and can quickly fold the Gulpy up and move out of the way if I need to. I don't waste precious water any longer because I can squeeze out little amounts at a time until he's finished drinking and because I don't put it on the ground, fewer icky things like dirt and debris get in the water. I love that it is easy to refill and carry extra bottles of water for that purpose. I just wish it was a tad bit larger; I feel like we go through water really quickly but maybe it's just me. I also wish it would stand up on its own when folded up but these are relatively minor complaints.

Most of all, I was impressed with the Gulpy's durability. I bought mine about a month ago and on our very first hike using it, I managed to drop it down a 30 ft rocky ravine. I thought it was going to be shattered but to my relief the only 'damage' it sustained was that the dish part detached from the bottle; I just popped the dish back onto the bottle and it was good as new! Best part, my dog LOVES it as does his little 'brother'. It's the perfect size for a large Labrador and a Pointer puppy and the two dogs happily drink from it together. I would definitely highly recommend the Gulpy to every dog owner who camps, hikes, or just travels around town. It didn't leak at all and is great to throw in a backpack or purse.

Our dog loves this!

My big old great pyrenees loves this little water dispenser. She loves to go on walks but as she has gotten older, we are taking more breaks. I purchased this dispenser thinking she probably wouldn't like it. Wrong - the very first time I used it she lapped up the water without hesitating. I was shocked! It seems fairly small for her 105 pounds but it works perfect and is easy. You simply unscrew, add water, screw back on. You pull down the yellow "cup" area and water starts flowing. I do tend the squeeze the bottle a bit to help the flow.

The other benefit to this dispenser is for travel. Our dog hates to drink when we travel (which is a lot) and I hate pouring water into a bowl in the car. I purchased another no spill dispenser that is great for our cat, but Priss (aptly named) wanted nothing to do with it. Again, I just open this up when we stop for gas or even while on the road and she will drink it up.

The only things that kept this from 5 stars is the issue other reviewers have noted. There is really no way to close this without getting water everywhere if water is left in the pull out section. I also just lean it out the window if we are driving and if walking it is no real problem.

UPDATE 1/23/15:

While I wrote my original view in December, I needed to add a comment about how much more I love this water dispenser. Since my review our 11 year old great pyr's osteoarthritis has worsened and she has a much more difficult time getting up and down. The medication she is on makes her very thirsty, especially at night. It is very difficult for Priss to get up to drink water so I now keep the Gulpy Water Dispenser filled by the bed and when I hear her panting, I simply open it up, lay down a towel (she is a messy drinker) and let her drink up. Anything we can do to make life easier for our dog at this point we will do and what started out as just a handy little water bottle has really made life easier for all of us!

This is a really wonderful product. Only needs a few minor modifications....

I've had Gulpies for many years, in fact ever since they first came out. They are indispensable on a dry hike where there is no water available for the dogs (I need about one Gulpy per dog for a four-mile hike, by the way). When I saw that it now includes a loop so you can attach it to your pack I was so excited! The belt clip thing never worked. The bottle would flop out and it was just impossible to carry it that way. I could put it in a pocket of my backpack but that was inconvenient because I'd have to take off my whole pack to get at the bottle when I hiked alone. Now I could actually clip it onto a loop of my pack in front or onto a big water bottle and it was easy to access. For a while it was wonderful... but unfortunately the loop turned out to not be durable, it broke on one of them after about a month of hiking. I just bought some Sugru to repair the broken Gulpy and reinforce the unbroken one, but I'm just a bit disappointed. I thought it would be a vast improvement over the old Gulpies but such was not the case.

After the loop broke (which unfortunately happened just a few minutes into a hike when I wasn't wearing a pack) I happened to have a rubber band that I could use to keep the bottle from flopping out from the tray when I clipped it onto my belt. Actually, the belt I had on wasn't strong enough to hold it so I had to clip it over the waistband of my jeans. The sharp plastic clip rubbed against my skin which wasn't at all comfortable, so I had to keep moving it around. I dealt with it, but it wasn't a really comfortable hiking experience!

So, if this were my product I would do a few things to change it into a really superior product:
1.) Reinforce the loop so it won't break so easily
2.) Put some sort of cushion around the belt clip, and
3.) Find a way to attach the tray to the bottle so that it doesn't flop out when you have it attached with the belt clip.

I still love my Gulpies (and so do my fur babies!) but with just a few slight modifications, they could be perfect!

Perfect for our needs.

We already had a blue gulpy bottle and even left one with my brothers since they babysit him one day a week. I bought this one just to have a backup when the other one is being washed/dried. Since we have a super energetic 5 month puppy, we constantly take him out on walks, hikes, jogs etc to wear him out. Usualky when it's planned we can just grab the blue one and go but when it isn't we noticed we really needed to have a backup. Got the orange as pictued and so happy bc it makes it easier to remember which one we just used. I am surprised how many people were not aware this product even existed. Lots of ppl stop and ask us where we got it. Lol which works out since now I know what to get for our friends that also have dogs.

Useless!!!

Does not stand by it self even when it's closed. Leaks and filling valve takes forever to fill up the attached bowl. Even worse it's not returnable, will never buy again from third party sellers.

Awkward to use-water dogs don't drink must be dumped out
by ZRanch (2 out of 5 stars)
September 26, 2018

I wasn't really happy with this. I bought it to travel with my two dogs on a flight and then camping.

It's awkward to use and my dogs are smaller so they didn't need such a large area to drink out of.

It's nice that you can easily dispense small quantities of water, but if the dogs don't drink it all you are stuck having to figure out where to pour the remaining water.

This is not easy while traveling in an airport, on a plane, etc. I found it to be a hassle and annoying.

I have a different travel bottle that you can just tip to let the remaining water flow back into the bottle. It was just too big and awkward to travel with and I had hoped this one would be easier.

I love this product almost as much as my dog. I live in Vegas and with summer about to hit I knew my pup was doing to get thirsty on walks during the day. It's her first summer so she doesn't quite get the whole use the bathroom when I take you out the first time so we don't have to go out ten minutes later when you realize you did have to go concept. So I'm prepared for lots if hot summer walks but now I an at least make sure she stays hydrated. It is super easy to use. I just keep it in the fridge so whenever she wants to go out I don't have to worry about if it is cold enough. The only thing is I wish I could pick the color.

Carries enough water to keep puppy happy.

I have 2, 10 ounce Gulpys for my Basset Hound puppy. They work great and were good while the weather was cool. Now that the weather is getting warmer I thought the 20 ounce would be perfect. Used it today and worked as advertised with plenty of water to keep my puppy hydrated during our hour morning walk. Will buy another one. Well worth the money.

Don't buy; there are other BETTER travel bottles on the market
by Rachel (3 out of 5 stars)

this bottle does what it's suppose to. I don't like it because it doesn't stand up on the ground by itself. I must hold it for my dog. I also don't like it because whatever my dog doesn't drink, I have to dump out--I can't suck it back in the bottle.

The only other thing I don't like that's not a huge deal is the clip on it "for travel purposes". It's totally useless. Why would I clip a water bottle on my belt loop?! And even if I did, it won't stay very well when it's filled with water.

Good review is: it does NOT leak!
