Fantastic little device. I love it.
by Chris (5 out of 5 stars)

I have to restrain myself from keeping this thing in my pocket all the time. I just love it. I'm going to get my one quasi-complaint out of the way first.

You can't have a case on the phone when you're using this, but considering the engineering challenges associated with creating one that fits a phone with a case. I'm not going to blame anyone. There would have to be a different olloclip for each case out there. That would be ridiculous. So I'm perfectly content slipping my case on and off to use this. The ease or difficulty of removing a case is entirely on the case manufacturer. Not Olloclip.

So to the actual review:

I've got a couple categories here that I'll break this down by.

Clarity

Versatility/uses

Construction

Design

Clarity: The lenses are great. They take fantastic pictures and you really can't even tell there's a lens on the iPhone. The bag that's included is microfiber so it's easy to wipe them off if you get a fingerprint on the lens. This is especially easy with the wide angle lens since it unscrews to use the macro lens. I've not had to wipe off the macro lens or the inside of the wide angle, and I don't know how that would go for me. I've just been careful with not touching the glass. That should be standard for any handling of a lens.

Versatility: What can't you use this for? I've got a steadicam Smoothee and It takes a little extra balancing, but that's the nature of the steadicam. The olloclip is a FANTASTIC addition to the steadicam. Obviously the macro isn't super useful, but the wide-angle and fish eye are great. I've used the two of them to make a couple different videos and it's just a great combination. You could also use this for typical photography of course. I love using the macro lens for close ups of things that we never really look twice at. There is even an insert so that you can use this lens on an iPod touch.

Construction: This thing feels pretty solid for its size. Not that it's heavy, it just feels like it's made well if that makes sense. The lenses are solid, the body doesn't feel flimsy at all. It just seems like it's not cheaply made as so many things are.

Design: I do have to say that the design is very simplistic. That is NOT a bad thing. I actually appreciate it. The device just slips on the corner of your iPhone and turns it in to an even more versatile camera. One issue is that the device covers the lock/unlock button. It's not an issue for unlocking the phone since you can use the home button to wake it up, but if you stop recording and want to lock the screen for a minute to save some battery life, you'll have to move the lens to do it. Not a huge deal, I honestly don't know how they would overcome it except to have a rubber button built in to the top of the housing. Not a big problem, but a little annoying if you constantly have down time between shots. If you're like me you'll want to save as much battery as possible, and that means locking the phone during times you don't want to shoot.

Overall I'm very impressed with this little thing. It's a great addition to your arsenal if you are in to photography, videography, or "iphoneography" type stuff. I highly recommend using it with a Steadicam Smoothee if you're on a budget and want to do videos. Just know that the iPhone outputs a proprietary video file (thank you apple...) and you'll need to convert it to something useable. Ironically, Final Cut doesn't recognize the file that the iPhone uses for video. No, I'm not kidding. I laughed a bit about that after I found a converter and wasn't horrified anymore.

Not worth it

This little thing is really useful. it comes with a small bag that you can use it to clean the lenses and store them. My main concern about this type of products is that for every update you do on your hardware, you have to spend on a new lens because they are not compatible. This product is not cheap, so is really a problem. The "macro" lens works great, however the "fish-eye lens" is not the best one, the corners are not clearly define and the image is not as good as is suppose to.

If you find my product review HELPFUL, please click on YES at the bottom. If there is any question you think I might able to answer and help you with, feel free to contact me and I will gladly respond as soon as possible.

BEST PURCHASE I HAVE MADE IN YEARS
by Nick Sainato (5 out of 5 stars)

For starters, I would like to say that I was waiting it out to get this product for several months and once I finally got it I am upset I didn't act sooner! It is awesome! There are three lenses: fisheye, wide angle, and macro. The macro is the closest macro I have ever seen even in professional cameras. It's almost TOO close! I was able to get close enough to see the dents scratches in the "LIBERTY" text on a quarter. Amazing! It looks like there are only two lenses, but the wide angle (smaller lens) unscrews and reveals the macro lens. There is a little raised area for the sleep button to go under so that you literally can't lock your phone by accident (or on purpose). I can take better-than-professional macro photos, wide angle shots to fit a large group of people into one shot when you can't be 50 feet away, and fish-eye pics and videos to get that "unity" that you always look for in a picture. Great product, and what seems like is a bit pricy, is SO worth it!

Great Lens...less great clip
by NJC (3 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this to have a good macro lens for my iphone. The lens is great (and if it were just the lens, I would rate it 5/5 stars).

The design, however, could use some work. Anyone who owns an iphone would consider themselves fools not to have some form of at least minimal screen protection. The olloclip fits so tightly, that it will not go over even a thin screen protecter. In fact, the olloclip pushed my screen-protector off; and then proceeded to scratch my phone as I removed the clip when I was finished taking the photos. This could be easily remedied if they made the fitting with adjustable tension. Also, don't plan on using your flash with any of these lenses, because the olloclip covers it up completely.

This lens combination is just what I needed. I wish it had a telephoto lens instead of the fisheye lens. The up side is that I will be encouraged to take more fisheye photos. The clip on feature is far superior to the magnetic lens for phone that are currently available. I will probably purchase the telephoto lens when is on sale. I am a SLR photographer and consequently have much equipment with me in the field. It is a heavy Lowe Sling Pack and weighs close to thirty pounds. With the iPhone Olloclip I always have a camera at the ready. Again I wish it were a four-in-four-Lens combination

Very nice!

Just got this lens set today, and I already love it. I think it seems easy to use and creates remarkably clear images. I wished I had found this long before now.

It's true you have to remove your phone case before using this, but to me, that's a no brainer. And it's not a big deal. I'm willing to do it to have fun with these lenses and get some unique shots. So that downfall isn't a downfall at all and honestly silly to fault this product for that aspect.

My order arrived very quickly, in 3 days. So that was a bonus, and the lenses were black, not the red ones. either color would have been fine with me, but I think I would have chosen black. So that worked out great. I'm anxious to get out and keep shooting, so I gotta go. But I don't think you'd be disappointed in this set. Go for it, and you'll have a fun toy that helps you create some really cool shots.

The fisheye is fun, the wide angle very cool, but the macro is amazing. It captures tiny details that are impossible to see with the naked eye. It's hard to focus due to the tiny focal length, but a steady hand will solve that challenge. Very nice!

Terrific set of lenses

I am very happy to have purchased the Olloclip 3-in-one lens for my iPhone 4S. Since I did not own a case for a while, I took full advantage of my "naked" iPhone to take great shots with the lens attachment. It slips on and off with little difficulty, and no scratching of the phone. I have received many "wows" for the photos I've taken with the Olloclip. I use the wide angle lens the most, followed by the fisheye lens. I am impressed with its optics and its portability. Even with a case, I still take out my phone and use it with the Olloclip. I highly recommend this for serious photographers using their iPhones to capture some great images.

So fun! and worth every penny
by Iphoneographer (5 out of 5 stars)

I love taking pics with my iphone in the first place so i wanted to see what type of fun I could have with some accesory lens options. After searching around I found a ton of cheap telephoto lens, some magnetic stick-on lens systems and then the Olloclip. After buying, then breaking first day a cheap telephoto I decided to go for a product that was more well thought out. The olloclip is super rad! Right out of the box I was having a blast taking fish-eye pics of cool things right inside my apartment. The next day I went on a hike and took some amazing nature shots. That is my favorite thing to shoot so If you like wide landscape shots of forest, lakes, sunset stuff then the ollo cip is perfect! the wide angle is moderate in width but definitely gives you a good addition of field of view without much distortion.

OVERALL, if you get a kick out of impressing people with your iphone pics, this will really blow their minds! and be a lot of fun along the way.

great lens

Great lense adapter for the iphone for getting a little more out the factory camera.

Pros:

Comes with two different lenses and a bonus macro when you unscrew the wide angle off!

Small and very compact and simple to carry around.

Cons:

The power button is blocked off with the adapter and you cannot access it without removing it.
-This is not really a major con, but you cannot use this with a case which is kind of a bummer.

Great product with a few quirks that aren't a dealbreaker but can be a hassle at times.

does exactly what it should.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is that every time I want to use the Olloclip I have to remove the casing from my phone. That's kind of a pain. Other than that... the macro-lens (the primary reason I bought it) provides sharp and clean images (in its limited range - about 1 inch) that really dazzle.
