Got this gift for my coworkers that are retiring soon. It's become a pass me down around the office as of late as everyone seems to be retiring. Keeps the time and countdown sometimes. I had to re-enter the time a few times already. Works but make sure to keep the instructions because without it, good luck figuring out how to set it =/

My wife is a school teacher and will be retiring this year. I thought it would be cool to get her a countdown clock. Well let me tell you she loved the idea and this product. The unit is a bit smaller than I expected but still a good enough size to read. The programming is a bit on the difficult side but if you follow the instructions carefully this task in not that bad.

My wife asked if she can pass this down to the next teacher set to retire after her and continue to pass it along.

Great product which is a great way to count down to the big retirement day.

I'm not sure what the difficulty with the setup being reported is. i got the retirement countdown and barely glanced at the directions and had it set up in about 30 seconds. It may fall into a "people who remember programming a VCR" versus not or something ;)

Anyways, the only downside to me is that it's smaller than I'd like.

The only trouble with it is that every week or so, it will lose the final digits of the countdown. So say instead of 3015 days, it'll say 310 days. And others have said that instead of say 157 days it'll switch to 15 days.

If you just press the mode button on the back enough times to quickly cycle through the settings, it corrects it. Small PITA, in the absence of a good alternative countdown clock, I'm glad to at least be able to have this one.

I bought this when I found an Obama Countdown Clock. I have over 6000+ days left to retirement which is depressing but I still like looking at it thinking about the light at the end of the working tunnel. The reason I knocked it down from a 5 to 4 are the instructions were worthless and I figured it out on my own but it took some time. This would also make a nice gift or good stocking stuffer for Christmas.

I am a smart person. I can read and follow directions. This count down clock DOES NOT WORK. It's a cheap POS that I will be returning. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY or your sanity on hoping that you get one that works! I tried programing this 3 times and my husband tried twice, we both got 94 days however the retirement date is 10/3/2021, 895 days (from today 4/22/19).

If you DO buy one and it doesn't work, reading all these reviews from people claiming it's sooo easy to program, will only make you more frustrated! LOL I'm ready to throw this thing on the ground and beat it with a baseball bat!
***UPDATE***

I foolishly opted for the "return and send me another" instead of a refund. The next one ALSO DID NOT WORK. Now I'll get refunded less the $5.99 shipping cost. This is a GREAT SCAM! Send product that doesn't work, but keep $5.99 "for shipping" so they'll make money off you anyway. TOTAL BOGUS PRODUCT AND COMPANY! !!!STAY AWAY!!!

Nice but slight issue with display

It's nice to keep on my desk at work, but every couple of days I need to tap the buttons in back because one of the numbers disappears. It doesn't lose count, the number just disappears until I tap the buttons. The best thing about this is that as of this writing, I only have 952 days until I can retire!!!

OK I bought this for a retirement gimmick and it did serve that purpose but I have to say I was a bit dissapointed. The picture is misleading and this thing is really tiny. The entire front is about the same size as a business card which makes the screen really, really tiny.

No batteries come with it (takes 2 "AA") so for the price, the seller is making a huge profit as this thing likely cost $0.50 to make in china.

I thought the count down part would have some larger "countdown" in seconds clicking away but you set a date and set the current date and it just displays in largest the number of days and then in microscopic text, the hours etc. The instructions are a bit tricky. If I understood it correctly once you set it, you have to wait for it to count down to that date before it can be reset(?) so don't make a mistake.

Great countdown clock

In all this was everything I needed and was actually pretty customizable, with one slightly annoying flaw.

Pros:

An easy countdown clock simple and effective. Instructions are pretty straight forward as well.

There is a plastic cover that sits on top of the actual "Countdown to My Retirement" cardboard piece. You can remove this, scan it and then make your own little countdown face. Which is what I did.

Cons:

As other reviews have hinted getting the batteries in is quite a hassle. And I do mean QUITE a hassle. But with how the product is laid out there really wasn't much of another way to do it. But still it is worth negating a star because that was literally the hardest part of the entire process. Maybe it is because I have large hands?

Overall

A great clock that is customizable to whatever you want.

My dad had fun counting down his retirement hours.

However, the LEDs were not bright at all, and he'd normally have to tap it a few times to make it show up.

Thought this would last for a few years (i.e. pass on to others)...but no.

Way too expensive for the quality. Quite disappointed.

Got this for a coworker who we cannot wait to retire! He is none the wiser that we got it more for us than for him! Took a little bit to get it set, but for the most part it was easy to setup, just a simple 4 button system on the back. The only complaint I have is trying to get the batteries in the back. It might be the dumbest setup I have ever seen for batteries. The negative end springs are abnormally long and the way the slots are offset makes you catch the first spring while trying to slide the battery down to the bottom slot. I used a butter knife to hold the first spring down and that helped get it into place. I just feel there was no need to do it the way they did. Other than that the countdown is working well, 32 days to go!!!!!!
