Pleased with Purchase

I purchased a front, back, and middle section. When I fish on my own I only use the front and back section. The middle section gives you the option to add another person making it a two person kayak. After using it about five times I would purchase it again.

Pros:

All three pieces fit in the back seat of my Camry! (just barely) Yes, a two person kayak fits in my back seat without folding the seat down. The clear advantage to this type of kayak is it will fit in some full sized cars and hatchbacks so you don't need a truck or a trailer to move it. Check the dimension of the pieces to make sure it will work for you.

It is fairly sturdy in single configuration and even better with all three pieces but I would not try to stand on it.

The yellow color of the kayak makes it more visible to other boaters and safer than darker colors. If you are concerned about the yellow color and fishing, in most water conditions after a few feet down colors are hardly visible to the fish.

These kayaks are made in the United States.

Kayak is ideal for fishing lakes and bays and calm water conditions only. It is not ideal for rougher water conditions.

Cons:

Despite the description, it does not have any rod holders. This was easy to overcome, I purchased two Scotty flush mount rod holders. The top section of the rod holder is detachable and fits into the bottom flush mounted section.

If using the kayak with only the front and back (single person configuration), the seam for the two pieces sits below your butt and your butt will be a little wet so it is best suited for warm weather conditions.

Each piece of the kayak is made to fit together with a tongue and groove system at the bottom. At the top on both sides sits either a bracket held in place with a screw or protruding plastic pieces that go into these brackets. I reinforced the screw that holds the brackets with Loctite Blue since they were loose after a few trips and this seemed to help sure them. The top pieces close the small gap created when you fit in the bottom pieces, the majority of the force is on the bottom tongue and groove configuration.

It is a little awkward carrying the middle section (only needed if you are using it with two people), I can manage carrying the front and back section in each hand for short distances.

Would I buy this again? Yes, because I live in the South and I don't mind a wet butt when I am bass and crappie fishing. I do not need a truck to move it around. Ease of transport makes this a winner for my purposes.

Great for the intended purpose

I was initially concerned reading reviews about poor tracking, water on seat, flimsy construction.

Let's start with construction: the strength of something is not based on the size of screws, to respond to a specific review. The mechanism of the connection of the modules is robust enough. I'm satisfied with that and see no issues.

Tracking : for the length, this is just fine. Paddles are there also for that. A decent paddling technique is required. If you go in circle, it's not this kayak's fault.

You will get a bit wet, and water will accumulate, possibly on the seat as well. Not a problem for me (if i don't want to get wet, i don't go on a kayak in general...), but somebody can see this as a major issue. This kayak has not scupper plugs.

I have a small car and i put this in the trunk with the back seats reclined. It takes 1 minute to put it together. It's light to carry.

If you have space issues, and/or don't want to bother with a roof rack, this is a great choice.

P.S. As far as i can tell this is exactly the Point 65 Apollo model, just cheaper.

Lots of pluses but....

We enjoy this kayak because is disassembles and we can take it on our sailboat. It is very easy to put together and not too heavy although not light weight. Paddles pretty fast. Our previous kayak was an inflatable and this is 10 times better. Two problems, the ratchets that fasten the Two halves together are scraping hazards to the paddler. They are metal and don't appear to be marine grade, which is my biggest concern. Also there is no tow eye. I put one in but a tow eye has to be through bolted which meant cutting a hole in the kayak to access the backing plate and secure the nuts. I cut it with a hole saw and found a plastic radiator cap at an auto store to screw into the hole. Looks like it was made at the factory. Also have had the middle piece on back order almost a year.

Handles?
by Paul Turner (4 out of 5 stars)

A good compact, easy to transport kayak. Easy to get togeth and apart. Agile. Tracks well enough. I'm 6'3" and it fits just right. But the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is who thought it was a good idea to NOT put handles on it? Lifting it and transporting it to and from the water sucks. As soon as the warranty is up, I'm going to mount some. Otherwise a great idea.

Love it! Affordable kayak with a niche.

I love this thing!!! No, it's not a $2000 sea kayak that I would take out in heavy or even moderate surf. It isn't great for distance touring, either. BUT...if you are looking for ONE kayak that you can make a single or tandem, depending on your (spontaneous) plans for the day, carry either configuration out to your CAR (mine is an Impala, not an SUV), and fit it in the back seat, this one is great. It gets the job done for leisurely paddles, basic fishing, and other less demanding kayaking. My venue is south Florida, so I use it to explore along the banks of the intracoastal waterway, on calm mornings, the Atlantic beaches, as well as the extensive local canal systems for fishing, wild life viewing, and/or seeing expensive properties I'll never own :-).

It has excellent initial stability, but the apparent trade off is that has a more barge-like feel to it when under paddle compared to my touring yak (go figure). It still allows a comfortable, leisurely pace, though. Yes, as noted in another review, the attachment strap buckles will tear up your third knuckles and severely punish you if you get sloppy with your paddling form. I almost took a star away for that (wish they would have made the configuration more rounded or attached a soft cover to snap over them), but when I caught my knuckles it was poor form/hand placement on the paddle and after all, I still "love" this kayak (hence the 5 stars).

You will eventually get "wet butt" on this yak if there is any wave action (wakes), but the same is true of most other sit on tops. When I/we get back from the day's trip, I bring the pieces back into my apartment and all three fit right under my queen-sized bed. If this were a bicycle, it would be the folding multi-speed one that fits in your car trunk or your small apartment closet, not the several thousand dollar racing bike or the fitted out mountain bike. It won't out perform the others in speed or ruggedness, but it still allows you to own and enjoy a kayak with a minimal of space commitment. I still haven't found a place in my apartment to stash my touring kayak ;-)

Harder to fit in car than it looks, is easier to store, with more than one paddler is hard to steer.

They sell it as fitting in your car easily. It does fit in my car but not easily and not side ways(door to door in a 4 door honda civic) like they show in the video. It is nice though that it is modular because I am able to store it in my apartment where I would not be able to fit a full length or have the option to add an extra piece when my wife comes kayaking with me. I suggest maybe buying a rack on top of your car if you have a car or at least be aware you might have to buy one if it wont fit in your car. For me to fit a front, middle and back section in my car I have to force it against my back window for it to fit in. So my back window tint is screwed. If I had a nicer car I would not try to fit it in because it can scratch you car up bad. It is really frustrating to fit it in and a roof rack would be a lot less frustrating. So if you need a kayak that can break into pieces and not over a grand this is a decent option. Doesn't travel very straight in the water either so if their is more than just you paddling thats a whole other issue.

Easy to transport and great for relaxing paddling
by Kirsten (5 out of 5 stars)

It's super easy to transport. Tracking isn't the best so calm waters are better. At first my boyfriend and I were swerving all over the place and when we stopped paddling it would go in circles, but it was a windy day. So don't yell at each other and just accept that it doesn't have the best tracking in wavy or windy conditions, lol. You just have to get used to it. We went kayak camping and loaded it up with all our gear, and it didn't flip or anything. I love being able to fit it in my car for road trips. Customer service is great too. Mine came with a broken buckle due to poor packaging and the customer service was great. I think the kayak is overpriced, but I still really like it. The kayak doesn't come with any pad eyes to hook stuff on so I ordered some from Austin Kayak along with well nuts and screws. I watched their "how to" video and it was way easier to install than I thought it'd be. You just need a drill and a 3/8th bit. I was able to install pad eyes so that I could attach a strap and carry it over my shoulder, while attaching handles to the other so I could carry both at the same time. It made it way less frustrating since it's bulky and awkward to pick up with not much to grab on to. Overall, I love it.

Used not New order overpriced

I purchased a new kayak from Amazon, but the one I got seems used. The box for the front and back sections weren't even resealed when I got it. The kayak sections simply fell out of the box onto my potted plant. I like the section idea. It work fine on the river. I'm able to transport the kayak in a very small car. It's relatively difficult to separate the sections after use. Handles are needed! Spare parts appear to be unavailable.

I have used the kayak 3-4 times. Easy to carry and fits in my storage since the pieces come apart. My only drawback is you can hit your hand to the hooks on the sides when you are paddling.

Great idea that can be improved on
by Christie Kelley (3 out of 5 stars)

Pros: Sectional, very nice

Cons:
1. Sections are too long to fit in to a small car. They are 4.5 ft long, 0.5 ft too long to fit into a car or 2011 Toyota Sienna without folding the seats down.
2. No handles to carry the sections.
3. Not well balanced. If you don't have a second person, the back will sink as you paddle. Don't put stuff that you don't want wet in the back.
4. The rachets that hold the pieces together are very flimzy. I can see these breaking after about a year or two for me. And someone mentioned in their review that they got cuts from them sticking out. They could have made the placement low profile so it doesn't stick out or use a nut-and-bolt systems to lock the pieces together.
5. No paddle strap.

I bought mine from Amazon. I did not return mine, but probably should.

Unless design improvements are made, I would not recemmend this product for the price.
